...Went back to the local open-air market on Saturday morning, and picked up some more odds and ends classic era stamps from the dealer who regularly comes there, but still no Cinderellas. He promised me weeks ago to bring some during Michael's visit, but he forgot, and he has continued to forget... Chris ( Beryllium Guy ), Maybe he continues to forget so that you'll continue to return to see if he remembered (then buying some of his material so as not to have wasted a trip).

Happy to know that dealer is still in business. Saturday mornings I am busy with the kids' swimming lessons, so I had not seen him in a while, and last year when I had some time in Aix-en-Provence I looked for his shop but couldn't find it so I feared he had retired.

Yes, he is always there, but sometimes forgets to bring his stamps altogether! He also sells paper money, coins, military items, and other collectibles. I have had good luck getting some interesting material from him over the past several months. I first met him a couple of years ago when I was passing through Aix on travel, and I was glad to see that he is still here since I moved here in April.

Even though he forgot, and continues to forget the Cinderellas, I did manage to find a few nice items including a very desirable Booklet which I will try to post up later. I hope he will remember the Cinderellas during my next visit to Aix !! Londonbus1

Not much time for stamps here these last 2 days as the Jewish New Year has meant cooking, shopping and playing with Grandchildren, all of which I enjoy immensely (except the middle one, unless it's stamps!!). But today I am catching up on Forum posts, finishing the Newsletter article and continuing to sort the Commonwealth collection. During the madness of the last days, I did manage to find a buyer for all the MNH Machins. It's a start at least ! Londonbus1.......up to his eyeballs in Jamaica !

I'm making some progress today mounting some of the stamps piled on my stamp table. There were quite a few Canadian excise stamps that filled in some blanks(oh yeah I remember now they were $$).It feels good to get back to stamps even if it is just today.Winter's coming and Bolivia is going to get my attention as well as the fledgling Turkey collection.

Started to sort French stamps. Setting up duplicate stock book with a 1/2 line pr catalogue number. I have made small paper labels where I write the catalogue number (Michel) and cat. value on. It's slow work but I guess I will save time later on this work.

Yesterday I received a post card from Russia. It was refreshing to note that it neither tried to sow division nor influence my choices in the upcoming midterm elections! Thanks, Chris ( Beryllium Guy )!

Isn't it always the way? At least it is for me! Last night I wanted to listen to an album I have, so I checked my computer through AppleTV. Do you think I could find it? No where. So I decided that today would be a great day to sort out the mess that my iTunes Library is in. This morning I started that & couldn't find my album. It is now gone to the bit bucket thanks to iTunes. Anyway, I have more work to do on that library, but headed out to the post office to see if I had any mail & to drop off a Scott's catalog at the library. I wanted volume 1A, but it was out. Some new German stamps & the 1833 folded letter sheet from Pictou NS arrived from Vancouver & a bunch of Canadian stamps & #1 from Luxembourg from the APS StampStore.. These will keep my busy for a while! So much for the music library! Here is the folded letter sheet. Contents to be read a bit later...

Yesterday I received a post card from Russia. It was refreshing to note that it neither tried to sow division nor influence my choices in the upcoming midterm elections!... I apparently spoke too soon -- while I was proofing LB1's newsletter submission, I received this email from myself that was trying to get me to open a link to a Russian website. Notice that the individual who spoofed my email address supposedly did so through a network provider in Germany -- my guess is that even that German email address was spoofed by a criminal in Russia.

This morning, I received (from a friend in Australia) the complete MNH series of Bermuda's Sc 238-254, shown in the Bermuda thread. This represents the type 1962-69 surcharged with new value and bar in black and brown.Issued in 1970. What a treat !! All inventoried already and my thanks on the way by e-mail.
René p.s. I am not ready to publish or at least submit an article but in the future, as I get more knowledgable........yes !

Received several covers in the mail today; here are two that I had time to scan. Nothing super-unusual but I like them!!! Philippines First Flight Cover dated December 3, 1935. Pan American Airway's China Clipper, piloted by Captain Edwin C. Musick, began the first Trans-Pacific airmail flight Nov. 11, 1935 from San Francisco to Honolulu, Midway Island, Wake Island, Guam, and Manila (Philippines). This was likely flown on the return trip. They are franked by multiples of the two overprinted airmail stamps issued by the Philippines just for that same First Flight event! The 1.50 Peso-franked cover may have been overpaid; a pity the upper left corner has been chewed up a bit! These Danish airmail stamps commemorate the Cancer Committee, I find them very attractive, but rather difficult to find on a non-first-day cover. I believe they were issued several years before this likely philatelic, 1935 registered postal card. --Jim Wentzell stampguyaps177-681

I received three different orders today. Funny how they always seem to bunch up. Opened two. The first ones was some US precancel issues and perforation varieties to fill in gaps in my collection. Did well in that respect. That's the problem with new catalogs. You thought you had a pretty decent full house, and it pokes holes in it with new varieties you were unaware of. Second package was some filler issues for Monaco and French territories. Unfortunately, the dealer made a mistake, and mixed up the most interesting stamps of the lot (the TAAF insect issues YT 49-51) with the similar-looking YT 40-42 which I already had (but are also very beautiful). Keeping the last package (and the latest UN standing order arrival from Monday night) for tomorrow.

This morning I checked an order of three Ohio prepaid sales tax stamps that I had received a few days ago. Sadly, I already had them in my collection. Not sure what I was thinking when I placed the order -- I think I need to slow down...

I mistakenly thought the auction package that arrived in the mail yesterday had more German stamps in it. Of course the 2nd batch of German stamps arrived here on Monday. Yesterday's package was a Luxembourg postcard from an international stamp exposition & balloon flight from 1927. Very cool! The 2nd lot was a MNH set of Canada's 1935 Silver Jubilee issue. I already had one, but it wasn't quite as pristine as this one.
So head over (eventually) to the give-away thread for the set this one is replacing.

Mention of a Giveaway reminded me that I haven't yet done the update for my Newsletter Giveaway !! Next on the list for tomorrow....sorry for the late arrival of ! I have been scanning a bit and my Commonwealth Catalogue has arrived.......a nice recent copy so I can see what's what with all those stamps I brought back in my suitcase. For the Catalogue I have to thank Tina, the widow of our esteemed member Anping (Clive Smyth) who passed earlier this year. She let me have unlimited use of it and was very happy that it was not just lying around gathering dust. Something that belonged to my dear friend will be treasured. I must also thank my mate in London who is now the beneficiary of anything that comes out of the Commonwealth Collection. He sent me the Catalogue because it was too heavy for me to carry back. Over £20 of Security Machin were on the cover and nearly all of them were cancelled !! Hallelujah ! Now I am checking through some Cinderella material I chanced upon whilst in Europe ! Londonbus1

Opened a set of duplicates of the "Deutsche Post" famous German personalities issues tonight. This is the set that was first printed during the Soviet Zone era in 1948, then again a few years later by the DDR. The catalogues usually emphasize the difference in watermark between the two series, although you can see the reprinted issues have sharper portraits. Bottom line is: I need a better watermark detector! But a good deal, I'm only missing one SZ and 4 DDR issues now. The "Deutsche Post" DDR issues are the only ones I collect, so that means the very first issues, then these reprints, and finally the ones after the Berlin Wall fell and before reunification in 1989-1990.

I purchased a QEII era collection in set of SG New Age Stamp albums (1963 copyright) I was expecting to see varieties (color, etc) not on my Steiner pages but it does not help that the original owner mis-identified some issues too. I am awful at colors and of course Scott does not list every stamp SG does so mapping between the two. This often leads to deciding what did Scott think was the major number. For example, the 15c Aden. SG calls them blue green and yellow green and there is not a 100% mapping between perfs and colors.

For the 5c, blue-green on the left, yellow-green on the right. Comparing the 15c, it's blue-green. I'm happy to help with these, as I have a full reference set

I managed to update the 9 cent and 15 cent Reserve Litho pages of my OSTS collection to incorporate the stamps sent my by mikeclevenger . All that remains are updates to the 3 cent and 6 cent Reserve pages and I'll be caught up (with the OSTS) until my most recent ebay purchase arrives. Steve, just so you know, I have RE-6c-1B & RE-6c-2Aa in your envelope here, so far. Just so you don't buy those.

So yesterday I received another email from AllNations stating the my winning lot was in the mail. I had cleared out my Inbox & lost track of what was in the mail. Aha, the OTHER lot of German stamps is now on its way!
I received an email from StampWorld this morning & it highlighted old Hungarian stamps direct from their Post Office. You can but the 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's decades at quite a saving! So I opened an account to purchase the 60's. After futzing around with it, I submitted my order, only to be told that the order cannot be processed, and to please contact the store. Oh well! I try again on Monday & see if it takes. Otherwise, more German!

Today I finished putting away the orders that came in this week. I had some recent UN issues (I liked the Nelson Mandela Swiss administration one), several Europa 2018 ones (the theme this year is bridges, and some of these are quite spectacular), a few fillers from the German Weimar Republik period and the Central African Republic (and Empire) as well as some pretty stamp-on-stamps blocks.
Back to cataloging my Canadian stamps now.

So much for more German. I ended up poring over the offerings at Postbeeld & bought some Greenland & Luxembourg and well, I did end up adding some German as well. Soon I'll have a complete Greenland up to 1999, less the American overprints from way back when. The German are just the building definitives I am lacking & a few of the Famous Women series.
