I continue to work on Hungarian stamps; mainly classics and then up to 1950 which is where my printed Steiner pages end. I have filled a lot of empty spaces from my recent old album purchases.

The last couple of days, I've been focusing on my Swiss back of book. Added some new stamps from purchases and trades, taking some out to re-hinge later (after I soak the old hinge off), doing an audit of my stamps against my listed inventory, and then finally remounting stamps I have in mounts I stuck down when I did not know what I was doing. I think that can keep me busy for a while LOL

Speaking of Switzerland, I received my 2021 Zumstein catalog I had ordered direct from publisher. Another addition to the reference library, though I realize I likely will need to get a copy of the Zumstein 2-volume Specialized Switzerland. I held off this last order because the most recent edition of the specialized catalog is 2000 and I would hate to order it and then a new edition come out in the next couple years! I do have the Michel Switzerland Specialized catalog already so I do have some coverage for Switzerland varieties. Finished the current work at Colnect on expanding coverage of Indian Feudatories according to Michel with adding a bunch of Jammu & Kashmir, cross-referencing the Michel to my Gibbons India Catalogue listings. The Indian states over the past month or so have been given a pretty significant expansion of listings based off what is listed in Michel (over 1200 new listings). Which, of course, is really the tip of the iceberg compared to what Gibbons lists in its India Specialzed, but it is a start, and there are still quite a bit listed in Michel that we need to add as well.

Finally got the stamp room cleaned up, so I can get back to actual stamping. I picked the next country randomly, so I be looking at Egypt this week.

I modified two Steiner pages to change pairs or blocks to singles. Papua New Guinea is one of those countries I had no special interest in but seem to run across them so I add them to the collection. I do like the local motives in the designs.

I received a package of Ceskoslovensko from a giveaway. At the moment I only have enough time to transfer from the mailing envelope into Vario pages, I'll have to sort through them another time. Plus, I might have to find resources to research and identify them. But for now they are fun to look at!

I purchased a Lineco pH testing pen to test various philatelic products since there has been an interest on acid free or archival paper. To use the pen (a felt tip marker type), you mark the specimen with the pen. If the color is purple, it is ok. If it is clear or yellow, it is acidic. I tested the paper I use for album paper and it tested ok. I also tested some original Dennison Hinges and they tested acidic (more clear than yellow) along with the package they came in. I also tested some glassine envelopes that also seemed clear as well but then it does not wet the surface like paper products. My observation is that choosing a paper is just one decision if your goal is archival storage conditions which includes glassine envelopes, stock books, etc.

A local Cancer Respite Charity, CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen & North), has sponsored a couple of hundred fibre glass lighthouses for a school Artwork project, "Light in the North", throughout the local counties. These are now on display for 8 weeks in local shopping malls, museums, and community centres. Our stamp club has been adding to some of these exhibits with A-Frame display stands of LIGHTHOUSES on Stamps and postcards. Here I am with our club President Roy and one of our frames in the local Science centre along side some of the kids' lighthouse art work.

Received some stamps today from René ( renden ) some very nice some Danzig stamps I did not have! Thanks René !! I very much need to "tidy" up my stamp area once again..... This winter I plan on downsizing my music studio/room and turning the 'control room" into a dedicated stamp room (well except for the Zebra Finches I currently listen to chirping away all day... it's like bing outdoors....) ... (really)

It does my heart good to see stamp clubs participating in community and charity events like these. It's exactly the sort of thing that helps to raise the profile, not only of the club but our noble hobby itself. If more clubs did this, I think they would find themselves in better positions all around. Wish I lived by Aberdeen.... I would love to join a club like yours.

Welcome Stan @ stainlessb and do agree with Chris Beryllium Guy about the project Alex talked about and took part !! As for my stamping, working in French Niger and French Sudan as stamps are coming in and am also doing the inventory (done) of my French Colonies in Africa stamps. Project is going along well. Made some pages, mounted some while others are waiting for the stamps. Am not very concentrated on "scanning" - We are in the middle of a heat wave, uncommon here in New Brunswick for mid August - no fires yet !! René p.s. my 2 Indochina # 1 and #2 (Scott) should arrive to complete my page, which will be scanned (promise) ! Indochina is an old project, different from the French Colonies in Africa - Have a pretty nice assortment

Stampy Saturday in OxfordHello, stampers far and wide! Today, I finally have a day that can be spent on stamp activities after weeks of travel, work projects, doctor appointments, and life in general. Due to all of these other things going on, my stamp to-do list is has gotten very long indeed. Here are the things that come to mind: - Finish writing TSF Newsletter article and submit
- Prepare packets for Xavier (hrdoktorx) and Dave (daveg28) and mail this coming week
- Respond to Stan (stainlessb) on trade items
- Finish organizing Bavaria and send want list to Roland (cara)
- Unpack acquisitions from the past few weeks and integrate into my collection: mainly Denmark, Hong Kong & Germany
- Scan new items and post on TSF
- Soaking of many classic stamps mounted on pages
- Printing Osney Island cinderellas to send some to Joan (cursus) and others
And the list goes on from there.... I think that I will need to retire just to be able to make some real progress on this list! On top of all of this, I have been wanting to offer an interesting giveaway for some months now, but I just haven't been able to get it organized. I give big-time credit to those who have been doing giveaways, most especially René ( renden), who has been extraordinarily generous and has managed an amazing pace of giving material away. Bravo, René.... really great stuff! OK, I think I need to wrap up this post and start working on the list. Stay stampy, all!

I purchased the latest version of the Deegam Handbook (aka HB5) for Machins. They have switched to digital delivery so received immediately. I have not had a chance to study in detail but the appearance is a little different. Images are higher quality. Like previous versions, the catalog consists of multiple PDF files with navigation using a master index PDF with many links between the various sections.

After pulling stamps out of some old stock books I pulled all remaining France on pages off and soaked a rather large batch... but it has hardly put a dent in the pile... and I still have quite a bit of France on Vario/stock pages in no particular order tpo deal with assuming I don't buy anymore collection sin the near future, maybe I can ge to the bottom of the "bowl" -a very large salad bowl my wife either doesn't like or for whatever reason hasn't missed it or noticed on my stamp desk (I try to keep it hidden ) a beautiful day here today- the smoke has gone elsewhere (although the fires continue to rage pretty much unabated)

After ignoring East Germany for so long with the acquisition of New Zealand, I am back. Dave of Holocaust Stamp Project sent me a pile of their stamps, so I started sorting through the mass today. Got through two packs, two more to go. Then I started back on the album pages, this time using Album Easy. Having two sets on one row was a bit confusing trying to get it set up. But the centring is off somewhat. I gave up due to a change in layout, but am back trying to sort things out. Adding spaces to try to centre things, looks OK in the left half, but the right half can't be done. At least I can't find a way so far. So for now, it looks odd or I just put one stamp on a separate row. So I've stopped with that for now until I can figure this out.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Quiet on the stamp front here. I do have a few dozen forever listings on eBay. They are things with very little value that do not interest me but maybe good enough that some day someone will want them for a few dollars. They are part of my monthly free listing allowance that keep relisting with Buy it Now pricing. I generally start listing items a few times as an auction and if there is no action after 2 or 3 times I move them to a fixed price. Pleasant surprise to see these 2 lots sell last night. Proves that eventually there is a buyer for everything. These 2 Great Britain covers have been on relist for at least a year and finally are headed out to a new home. This little saving stamp only took a few months to move on. It was buried in with a hand full of cinderellas I decided I did not really need or want. I listed it on a whim because I have not seen any others like it.

Well good luck to sell on after a year. I do the same and it is nice surprise when eventually such things do go. The only trouble is the hassle of finding the item if it has been mislaid or misfiled in the meantime

Firstly I should apologize for the very sporadic appearances I'm making on the site. Personal and work life have been intruding in a large way, so I can only attend occasionally, and really do miss being more involved. Hopefully life will start easing up soon, and I will be able to make a welcome return to the forum! When it comes to stamping itself, I have also had much less time to do anything, but I've been (very) slowly working my way through the remaining uncatalogued Belgian stamps - and I keep finding items that are either missing or better quality. I've also just decided I was going to treat myself and spend out on ezStamp world edition. So far I'm really liking it, but I've only started scratching the surface of its functionality. Thanks for keeping me sane, and hope to come back more often!

Not much stamping lately. On Saturday, I was mounting some Dutch used stamps that I bought some weeks ago. I ran out of hinges and I'll have to wait until they bring some to the Plaça Reial stamp market. Buying them on internet, is not practical, shipment prices are too high compared to the actual cost of the product. And it's just question of waiting for two weeks. Today, I went to the Sunday stamp market and bought a dozen Catalan cinderellas and a 1940 Catalan postage due stamp. If everything goes fine, next week we'll have a gathering in Almacelles (about 175 km W of Barcelona). We'll be just four of five of us, but it will be the first stamp meeting after the pandemia. We'll see...

Yesterday I was updating my pages of the 1902-03 definitives (US). I make my own pages with Album Easy (well worth the effort to learn how to use this software). I had got another batch and swapped in four new ones. I am starting to like this page. Some openings to fill but in time I think I will have all but the two expensive imperfs. I scanned the page at 1200dpi which makes a rather large image file and made two crops of just the stamps which are also quite large. So, since I am new here, I am testing what the limits of inline images are.
This board uploaded the images to imagedb but allows apparently any size image and includes a reduced resolution image inline. The main image was ~17M and it took the whole thing. You have to click a couple times to see the original resolution but it worked pretty quickly. I am impressed.
