Stanley stainlessb , this stamp started life (ie without the overprint) as an obligatory tax stamp (5c) for the National Marian Eucharistic Congress Fund issued in 1954. Stanley Gibbons lists these under postage stamps, SG 796. In 1982 it was overprinted and re-issued for postal use with values of 70 soles and 280 soles (plural of sol) with SG Nos. 1518 and 1528 respectively. So, yours are SG 1528.

Here, in Catalonia, it was traditional for heavy-task workers (like those building houses), to start the day with a drink that we call "barreja" (Catalan for "mixture") a mix (50%-50%) of moscatell (sweet wine) and anís (sweet white distilled spirit). Also that we call "cigaló", black coffee with some brandy or rum. If using white coffee, it's called a "trifàssic" (three phases). Nowadays, with work security rules in force as well as alcohol controls by the police, is not as normal as it used to be some years ago. Luckily, work conditions have improved; so, you don't need alcohol to encourage you to do your job. It was also a quick caloric supplement for under-nourised people. Amazing. 'The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.' Yours sounds remote, even if it isn't. In German railway stations and airports, I'm used to seeing (well, last I was there was 2019) men with liter glasses of beer at breakfast. Rather than stare like a rube, I instinctively stare at my shoes. Such an innocent.

Got another specialized catalogue I've long wanted. The Nile Post is one of the best specialized catalogues for all philatelic things Egyptian. Posted in the library thread. thestampforum.boards.net/thread/1316/library?page=20&scrollTo=127271Other than that caught up on Colnect stuff overnight. Over 1100 new listings added. Have a contributor helping fill out our listings for Shanghai Local Post issues which until now had not received much contribution from the community. All in all a productive night.

Added a hard to categorize stamp [bottom right corner, Quarter Anna from Jammu & Kashmir, un-issued probably printed in 1880s, SG calls it Type 19 but does not assign numbers, also comes in red-brown] to a page in temporary position. Even though I stick mounts on with a glue stick, so I can remove and reuse them, it is quite a bit of work to redo a whole page, particularly if there are a lot of mounts on the page. So sometimes, I just add a stamp and write in a label.

I'm looking for my triangle stamps. They are somewhere!
I'm also going over the stack of Liechtenstein maxi-cards I just had 303 of them delivered! That'll keep me busy for some time. Maybe yet another country to start collecting! Be prepared to see them on the postmark of the day thread!

Hi there, all of you old friends and new members, I've been away for much too long, and you don't want to know my level of unstampiness during this time. Hardly any stamping at all for the last 6 months, quite depressing in itself. So I am hoping to stick around on this place more often for the future. Now I just need a few days to update myself on this thread - I love reading what you've all been upto, as always. Last week I did actually do some stamping, and made a custom page for my Canada Edward VII booklet, which I was fortunate to find in an old duplicate stock. Here it is link

blaamand Good to see you back here. Hope you still have your interest in postmarks....... Anglobob Thanks anglobob - Postmarks? Always! During the past 6 months I have made DIY Postmark album pages for Canada, 140 pages filling a Lighthouse Grande binder: (Click for better resolution) The album is now housing samples from about 1500 different Canadian PO's, but with many more empty slots for PO's still missing

Been thinking about completely hand drawn and laid out pages. This is my first try at one. Lettering needs work. The ruling was done by hand also. Too much work but I can't find a source of black quadrille paper in North America. Anybody know where I could buy this kind of paper (archival -- acid free & lignin free)?

Another handmade album page. This one without a grid ruled onto the page. Looks OK, I think. I have a source for reasonably inexpensive black archival card stock.

- I'm taking a break from my research/studying for my judging assignments at the Greater Houston Stamp Show in 2 weeks.
Today's mail brought 6 orders including a selection of old orange and grapefruit wrappers from Israel (these were used to individually wrap each citrus before putting in crates); an Orange Free State card to Basutoland; an orange-illustrated hotel cover from Florida; an uprated US 5-c postal card to Costa Rica; and a couple of PPCs featuring Florida orange groves.

I had to return an eBay item today -- item not as described. A good thing about eBay is that returns are pretty easy to do. This time something new (I had not done one for awhile) occurred. In the past I have just printed out a tracked shipping label, provided by eBay and dropped the return in a mailbox. This time I got the following and had to take the return to the post office to get the label.

More and more, I find I am misreading stuff. Just getting old I guess! Rereading that note above, I see I could have printed the label myself. Duhhh. I read it first as a button to print the QR code.

I mounted the stamps from NZ, DDR and Luxembourg today. Then I thought I should update my Luxembourg spreadsheet. When did I last update this, as a lot of stamps are missing from it. November 2017! 2017?? Good grief! A lot of work there to bring it up to date! Another project for another day though!

Got the first part of France Type Mouchan 1st series page made with layout ready for 2nd, and then another page detailing what makes a Type I and II what they are.
Emptied my drying books and put most everything away (a few stragglers) and saoking another batch- It will definitely be at least one more to empty the 'bowl", but I hope to return the bowl to the kitchen in the next few days
then some clean up will be in order, place all the flawed stamps into another envelope for "arts and crafts"- and then I think I may start putting together a multi-part (winners) giveaway to celebrate my 3000th post which isn't as far away as it seems!

AH, to have some time for stamps after a long week of accounting month end closes for two teams.
Yesterday and today, I was able to go through purchases and stamps acquired via trade from Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Lots of stamps added to my albums and also I have a number of new PNG duplicates.

Today I finished the last of the soaking (until more come along), opened up some much needed workspace. I do have a pile of France to sort and get into Varios (a minor detail) and I also am close to finishing the pages for France Type Mouchan (1st issues)- I need to complete the detail graphics for the 25 centimes . which will be on the detail for the 10c, and will be opposing the 1st of two pages of stamps. Then likely get the 2nd issues done (redesign to the plates, easy to spot once you know what you're looking for.
I need to ready some stamps for a fellow forum member, although the recent change at work to remote only for 2 weeks (Covid) makes mailing a bit more of a challenge.... I normally mail from work as we have a mail station- the nearest post office isn't really close.
and then back to the Semeuse and Red Cross booklets.
I have procrastinated long enough

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Today has been strange and amusing day in stamping.
First up was an attempt to bid on an 1875 Canada 3 cent small Queen mourning cover from my home county. I vaguely recall a Canadian seller blocked me for giving him a low score on shipping due to excessive cost but a positive over all many years ago. Turns out I am still on his no no list so now I need to have a friend bid for me.
Next was supposed to be a visit to an up coming content sale that has several stock books of stamps as well as small boxes of stamps on paper. It turned out to be quite far so my friend I was to meet there sent me many photos rather than me going. He saw right away it as newer stuff than what I would want. There were some clean mint items but just your typical low value starter items and some Canadian mint from the .08 era. I told my friend not pay over 100.00 and I would take a better look and help him lot it for his next MaxSold auction. The sellers reply was that she was going to ask 800.00 for the lot. I wish her luck. Glad I did not make the trip. I am still hoping to find a few old classic world wide collections to pick through this coming winter. It is so therapeutic.
Tonight was more mundane as I completed my British America bid list for an up coming auction.

As usual, on Sunday, I went to the stamp market. But this time, I had an apointment with a friend, that was bringing some old Y&T catalogs from the library of a gone friend. I will keep a few and give the others to the charity shop, that will be opening in two weeks, after the summer holidays. We, also, went through some items from another late friend of ours that someone is selling. I found a maxi-card (already shown), a Cuban card ans a 1980 Austrian stamp exhibition cover with some cinderellas inside (I always look inside the covers). My friend, found a dozen of covers with marks of some of the ships watching our coast during the 1992 Olympic games, his main interest.
On the evening, this friend, came to my home with a pen-drive holding images of a collection of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic covers, that he's bringing to this fall Spanish stamp show. He has the best collection on Barcelona'92 Games, ever assembled, covering all aspects of them. I've been assessing him on this subject as he (surprisingly!) values very much my view. It's true, that he's getting higher scores on exhibitions. But, I've been outside of the organised philately and competition for some years now...
Yesterday, I sat on my PC and wrote an article on the rise and fall of Barcelona city commemorative postmarks (1888-2020), for the December journal of the Ripoll (North of Catalonia) philatelic society, if they finally issue it...

One of these cases where the postmark is worth more than the stamp ! Interesting the stamp is TILTED from TILT COVE " Postal History is not just Stamp Collecting "as I have said previously many times

Earlier this week, I had two A4 16-page stockbooks arrive. One is to be used for Spanish Andorra, to give a little more room to French Andorra feeling some pressure. The other will be for Vietnam, which will also release pressure of the rest of the Asia S-Z countries it shares a stockbook with currently (especially Singapore). Have to decide how to arrange the various periods: post French-independence but pre-partition, North and South Vietnam, plus the other semi-official issues from those troubled times, and after reunification. I have a small stamp book that my grand-mother (who grew up in Saigon) bought for me while visiting there and so I want to keep something in there as well. It currently holds the South Vietnamese stamps, but is bursting at the seams.
Also, and you will see a few posts about them shortly, I received the 2021 set of "Trésors de la Philatélie" prestige souvenir sheets. This time, the French Post made the face value on the stamps actually match postal rates currently in force, so there's a better chance than previous years that some of these stamps will find postal usage.
Update: There were two small stockbooks, actually. The first one I kept with early Vietnam era (pre-partition) and French Indochina stamps with Viet-Nam overprints, plus the "Mien Nam Viet Nam" issues from the Southern Liberation Front. The second small stockbook now contains South Vietnam issues only. And the 16 pages were barely sufficient to house North and modern Vietnam.
