This week I have been 100% FRANCE - checking those numerous stamps (99% dups) in one of the 25 binders I talk about regularly - putting some order, comparing them to my existing inventory and transferring them from vario pages to a stockbook......for helping friends fill empty spaces.......maybe a giveaway later on. Have a good weekend !!

While I have been away from here, I have been busy making DDR album pages, trying to sort all the New Zealand duplicates, and have expanded my Canada album. I just collect what I like and left it at that. But then I received some more 2004's in the mail I did not have, so 1 page has expanded to 4. Nothing quite like the DDR where I have 63 (!) pages that range from 1968-1973! 63? Good grief! Too many & too large if you ask me. But whatever!

Went to SCAPEX 2021 today (local Sacramento Philatelic Society fall show) and was suppose to work the registration table, but there was an excess of volunteers (how often does that happen) so I was re-assigned to the club circuit table which was really fun. The society has a pretty large holding (rivals many of the commercial dealers present) so I filled various and assorted request for stamp[s to peruse. The pricing was very very reasonable (I was even offered an extra discount because I volunteered!)
I spent time looking with my want list, but only found two, and brought home several others that I thought were improvements over what i have.... so now I have a "few" more dupes!
My want list is apparently getting quite focused. I did get the name of a society member (not present today) who is considered the France specialist and i will make an endeavor to meet up with him!
For those is the states..... happy return to standard daylight time (I wish we would abandon this practice!)

I've been working on my East German collection, slowly making the album pages and mounting what stamps I have. I just decided to make decent binder spine labels. They look much better if you ask me than what I made 50 years ago by hand or those awful label printer things! At least they peel off easily!
New and old...
Back to stamps now!

I have been away from both this forum and from my collection for way too long because I have been overloaded with work. Today's mission is too mount some of my Swedish stamps from the 1990's and catching up with some of the forum threads. Great to see so much activity here!

Yesterday, i went to the Plaça Reial stamp market. Just on arrival, I was offered an old sales-circuit book with European used stamps. They asked 10 € for the book. As it contained, mainly Eastern Europe cto stamps and the vendor (someone that I know well) wanted to sell the whole book, my first impulse was to say "no, thanks". But, at a second glance, I saw some 1938/44 used Iceland stamps. My Scandinavian collection is weak on these. So, being a regular customer, I asked him if he would consider selling me just these stamps at at what price (Iceland pre-1950 stamps are not cheap). To my surprise, he answered me "Yes, take what you want for 0.15 € each one!". I was not sure that I needed all of the stamps, but, being such a good price, I took them all for 1.8 €. Back home, I not only needed all of the iceland stamps. The Michel total price was more than 150 €. When you go to a market every Sunday and try to buy on a regular basis (even, spending just a little) it's quite normal to find sometimes good deals.

Finished today compiling my Peoples Republic of Laos collection. Left out several issues like Olympics,Football W.C. and thematic sets, which have no or little connection to Laos. Quite O.K. till the year 2000,but missing almost all later ones. And many of these are quite nice.
I guess there is next to no chance to find the missing by exchange. So most likely I wll have put a limit on my collection to where it is now.
Next will be Cambodia.Again up till 2000 only.

I haven't done much of anything stamp wise for the last several days. The closest that I have come is to wander around this web site trying to figure out a coherent plan.
I still have several albums and a shoe box of glassines to sift through and catalogue, which will take days if not weeks.
This is an inherited collection - mostly 1860s to early 1960s from what I can tell it's very Euro-centric with an emphasis on Malta (where "my people" lol are from).

Oh dear, another request via our Stamp Club web for a collection appraisal .. Two messy junior albums circa 1955-1960, a dozen envelopes of clippings from letters. Absolutely nothing of merit till I get to the bottom of the bag .
8 First day covers , HONG KONG 1935 Jubilee, and several 1937 Coronation .. So I list these hopefully on ebay for the lady. we will make £30 -£40 on these , bids coming in already , and ZERO on all the rest. Ah well better, than nothing I suppose .
This is the third collection I have had to look through in a month. Each one has been a huge disappointment for the owner, as the bulk has been hard if not impossible to sell , but each contained just one or two small nuggets of gold to provide a small reward.

Not much stamping today, but much mulching.... I had a large willow tree taken out on Friday and had the bright idea to have them leave the shredded limbs/leaves, not realizing that the shredders takes very large 'logs" and they deposited about 4 - 6 yards of shredded "mulch" in my driveway... We're supposed to have a pretty good storm come through and not wanting to shovel wet mulch I have slowly moved the pile down over the course of 4 days, each day going until my back started reminding me of it's presence....
The elevation in parts of my yard are higher than previously as I really had to get creative to put it all somewhere. I offered it to neighbors, but they all politely declined ( probably had a good laugh about crazy old man Brown and what's he doing now?!?...)_
I did get to the post office today to send some stamps to a friend , so it wasn't a complete loss!!
and now it can rain all it wants!
Stay stampy!

Well after only 24 hours there has been a lot of interest on the 5 Hong Kong Covers! A flurry of bidding from half a dozen Hong Kong based buyers has pushed us over £30 already on these in spite of condition faults and 6 days to run Vince stanley64 might like this one , I had never heard of this Hong Kong Post office.

Decided to wade into the France Semeuse cameé 10 centimes, only two color varieties listed (red and dark red) correction- there are a few more for the thick cheffre! ... which explains my eaerlier comment although like many of the early stamps there is a bit of variance - and there are a number of Types, with an earlier issue (thin chiffre (skinny according to Google translate). Yvert & Tellier 135 and then a later issue (#138, the thick chiffre (or fat). These are relatively easy to distinguish- the Types on the other hand takes a bit more examination. I have somewhere between 300-400 stamps to go through and spent most of the morning looking at maybe a third, it's about 1 thin to every 8-10 of the #138 (fat). This is a first pass and I'll go back for a closer look at higher resolution once I get the "thick and thin" of it straightened out-
this should keep me busy for a while

Mainly been doing a lot of Colnect stuff the past couple weeks but did get one major thing accomplished. My Stamp Catalogue library 5-tier bookshelf was finally filled once I got my Stanley Gibbons Continental Europe catalogues, so had to get new bookcases to store my library in. Got 3 three-tier bookcases that were tall enough to fit my tall catalogues (over 12" tall) standing up. Now all put together and organized, and room for further expansion as needed.

Interesting evening as we ( AberdeenPS) shared a Zoom with Harrogate PS Four short presentations from Aberdeen with Samoa, Canadian Admirals, Basutoland, and Patents. You can probably guess which one was mine? Also a fantastic item in the mail from Chris Beryllium Guy which will be properly acknowledged tomorrow when I access my scanner. But my thanks and delight for now .

There always comes a time when you need that specific catalog or information. Having them in the bookshelf makes me feel good and reassures me.

On the Road Again My wife Amy and I are traveling again as I write this. Yesterday was her birthday, so we went into London for the day, and then spent the night. As I write this, we are sitting on the train to Cambridge. We had planned to visit Cambridge a few months ago, but that trip got shortened, and we never made it. I think that fellow TSF member Chris ( cjoprey ) lives around here, but of course, I have utterly failed to do any coordinating. While there is no substantial philatelic activity planned, there have been and will be some stampy moments. Yesterday, for example, Amy wanted to go to the British Library to see the new Paul McCartney Song Lyrics exhibit, and while I was tempted by that, I just had to get a proper look at the stamps. The British Library is home to several important stamp collections, the most famous of which is the Tapling Collection. I have not properly researched the subject, but I saw some magnificent material. For those of you who fancy Bavaria, like cara and mikeclevenger , there was a page with 9 copies of the famous “Schwarzer Einser” (Bavaria #1). Surely, they could spare a couple of those! And there was quite a good representation of Cape triangles, but I think I will write about those in a subject-specific thread. Alex ( vikingeck ), so glad to hear that your early Christmas present has arrived safely. I hope that you will enjoy it in good health! Well, that’s it for now. Stay stampy, all!

Vince stanley64 might like this one , I had never heard of this Hong Kong Post office. Yes indeed, Alex, I have been to Hong Kong a few times in the past during the 1980s, and Stanley is the area known for its markets. I was always looking for shopping bargains back in the day, and I can certainly recall getting some great ones at the Stanley Market. At the time, I can recall paying the equivalent of $1.00 (USD) for silk neckties, for example. Other famous brand-name clothing was available at a fraction of what it would have cost in the US or Europe. I have not been back to HK since it was returned to China in 1997, so I don't know from firsthand experience anymore, but at least according to Wikipedia, the area is still known for its markets and is considered a major tourist attraction. I don't know if that means anything to Vince ( stanley64) or not, but it's a fun thought!

Yesterday I got a large box with several lots from a Norwegian auction. Two of the lot's contained 60 'circulation books' (can't remember the english name, aproval book?). What I do is going trough them, take what I need for my collection and then put the rest up for sale on Colnect. There is no fee to be paid. There is more to tell what I got from this auction, but that i will tell in my Belgium tread later. Lot of work to do now. Have a look at my sales at Colnect. And I have been busy! Listed more than 12000 stamps for sale at Colnect the last three weeks. some of the listings are of course with more than one stamp, but they are selling one by one. Sold over 3000 single items, witch has given me a good income but poor money pr hour. But I enjoy the process. And I have added 500-1000 stamps to my own collection during the process going trough the yellow approval books. I will continue this work, listing my stamps in my duplicate stock books for some time. Then I will start to work on my own collection again. I have a lot to go trough as I have bought Norwegian old stamps and a lot of Belgian lots on auction. Some three year until I retire from work, need more time to do stampy tings

That Hong Kong Coronation FDC with Stanley PO , illustrated a couple of posts above, has just gone crazy .
I listed it on behalf of a neighbour at £4.99 starter ,which I thought was a reasonable price. Within a few days it was up to £21 which exceeded my best expectations. I thought we had done very well .
Suddenly in the last hour as bidding ends, it rockets to £276. ………unbelievable! Wish it had been my own to sell.
(As we have three other Hong Kong Coronation FDCs. ( different cachets) one with a block of the low value , also cancelled Stanley, all less than £10 ,this defies all logic.)
