This weekend, I caught up on my Trinidad & Tobago collection... added a dozen new stamps, mostly MNH, and now I am going to go through items I have picked up from trades and also a bulk purchase I made in 2020.

A few weeks ago, I received an Stamporama purchase of Swiss stamps. I was mainly after the top value of the Italian version of the 1939 Swiss Exibition; but, now i realise that I'm still missing og of the cheap values, the French 5 cents. It shouldn't be so hard to find it...
Last Tuesday, after an old lady request, I went to make an appraisal of her late father stamp collection. It was in an old house in village of Sant Andreu de Palomar (since 1897, annexed to Barcelona, but still with a lot of distinctive flavour and not tourist-spoiled). I was expecting the typical collection of Spain of the 60s and 70s, worth next to nothing (there's a huge offer and no market). But I was surprised to find some key issues of the 50s (Centenary, Sorolla y Legazpi, Franco at Canary Islands) plus the expected 60-90 stock. I advised the lady to go to a reputed Barcelona stamp dealer. With a little luck, the family can get close to 1000 €. As they're a quite wealthy family, they're not in a hurry and don't really need the money. So, the chances for a fair deal, are high. Off course, I refused any kind compensation for the advice, but I made a friend.
Yesterday, I went to the Plaça Reial market and bought about six Norway used stamps...

Still working on my Argentina collection. Having some trouble telling the difference between the Litho and Typo varieties, I think I'll put them on the side for last.

I hope I have gotten the France Mercury series (1st) now sorted, selected and ready to mount (as soon as I get one page with color printed - tomorrow I hope), and maybe layout and print 2nd series and the R F overprints, 4 denominations, no shades listed, maybe some paper varieties, but a single page each. I would have never expected to spend so much time as it took to go through these. I also received a surprise in the mail from renden yesterday. He sent me some duplicates for Hungary and Belgium in the form of a stock book full of stamps... He has left it up to me to decide what to do with the 'extras"- so I will set aside for an upcoming give-away I have alluded to as I approach 3000 posts. Out to the garden for a while, maybe more stamping later Cheers everyone!

Very happy Stan stainlessb received a "surprise" and he has my OK ! to do as he wishes with the extras ! Received some nice MNH pre-cancels (FRANCE) today from Beryllium Guy - the problem is to find the proper catalog to do the inventory. SCOTT is useless and Maury is very difficult to judge (Types) in the pre-cancel section of its 2022-23 catalog, as compared to description of same non pre-cancel stamps which is more detailed. Will find an answer soon....... René

I’ve been busy with work/out of town, so I haven’t been able to do a lot of stamping recently. However, I have been buying a lot and found myself picking up a bunch of Dutch material, which has blossomed into my second interest behind Austria. I’m currently sorting a disorganized lot of Netherlands and Colonies.

The last week has been some stamping in the morning (now mounting a number of Singapore stamps) and some landscaping (planting hushes around the foundation) and repairing a sprinkler system.

This week, I've been living the blissful life of a single dad. My wife is away with one of the kids that is participating in a chess tournament in Agen (near Bordeaux), while another (kid, not wife) is at rowing camp at a nearby lake. So I only have to take care of my youngest. Who is very quiet when alone. My kids are like chemical reagents, they're easy to handle by themselves, but dangerous when in close proximity to one another. Like many other siblings, of course. So I was able to take a day trip to one of the stamp dealers I met last month at the Fête du Timbre show. I had given them (it's a husband and wife team) some wish lists and they had worked hard at fulfilling most of them. Their "office" is near Avignon, so no more than a couple of hours drive from me, including traffic. With the last kid in tow, we made it a day outing and spent the whole afternoon there. I was able to pick up many a filler and quite a few nice pieces, and ogle over many other ones that would explode my budget if taken all together at once. So we'll have to go back. I'll be showing some of the new pieces over the next days. All in all, a great day, nice conversation, new friends and lots of great stamps to show for it!

Colnect been keeping me busy the last couple weeks so that has been the focus of most of my stamping. For past couple months been working with other contributors on finishing up the standardization of watermark names in Colnect, as many watermarks has numerous similar, but slightly different, namings for what is one single watermark. Lots more new items added, as the catalog is closing in on 1.1 million unique listings.
Also waiting on delivery of a few more specialized catalogues to arrive, most notably all the continental Europe catalogues produced by Gibbons since 2015 (13 volumes total). With Gibbons finances unstable at best, decided better get the catalogues now while still available from the source.

Stampy Weekend in OxfordGreetings, all! Sorry for few substantive posts coming from me recently. I have been busy with work things and a bit of local-type travel, and I have also found time for stamp activities, but I haven't managed to post much about those just yet. Things done: - Long-awaited return visit to an excellent stamp dealer in Stratford-upon-Avon (bought several Hong Kong needs)
- Acquired old mounted Cape of Good Hope collection on eBay, followed by hours of soaking yesterday
- Finally finished organizing my Bavaria collection and created want list
- Acquired another need for my Kenya & Uganda KGV set (overpaid a bit, but not often seen as a single)
Things still needing to be done: - Correspondence with Roland (cara) on an ongoing trade (sorry I am being so slow; more to come today!)
- Finish organizing and putting away previously soaked Germany lots
- Continue writing next TSF Newsletter article; already started but should try to finish while the subject is fresh in my mind
- Start organizing my stamp materials for the upcoming trip to California for the year-end holidays
I could have made both of these lists longer, but these are the highlights. The bottom line is that I need to get serious about getting organized. My time in the UK is probably winding down. My work visa will run out by next October, which will likely mean a return to California and retirement from full-time work. The visa could be renewed, of course, but I am thinking about slowing down and taking more time to enjoy life in general and stamps in particular. It is hard for me to believe that what started out as a 1-year work contract in France in 2018, has already turned into 3½ years in Europe, and it's not over yet. I will do my best to make the most of the time, and I will hopefully be able to return to the US with no regrets when the time comes. Happy Hallowe'en and stay stampy, all!

Went to a local stamp bourse yesterday, the second one in Metro Atlanta, I think, that has been held (NOT CANCELLED) since the Pandemic. As I was emailed notification of it only two weeks prior, and and saw no other advertising/notification I suspected there would be sparse attendance. I was correct, only about a dozen visitors, maybe more (I polled the nine dealers there) arrived. Needless to say, they were a bit disappointed with the turnout.
Well I did manage to spend a few bucks....some nice but tattered US Civil War covers (scans to follow), a nearly-new US Revenues Scott album, with a couple hundred lower-value fairly common revenues, and a few odds and ends.
It was nice to browse the table, and have lengthy chats with the dealers (I know about half fairly well) and make some new friends. Most, but not all, STILL have not taken the "Internet Plunge" as I checked--only three of the nine dealers said they have ever posted online, or read/subscribe to stamp forums such as TSF. A few more, maybe half, said they buy or sell online. It's like pulling teeth, to some, to try to show them the advances in technology as it relate to stamps. For instance, I had left my magnifier in the car, and needed to inspect some stamps on cover--the dealer unwisely (maybe intentionally?) did not have one to loan out--a separate gripe to complain about. So I pulled out my smartphone and took a snapshot and enlarged it. Presto, I could see the roughly torn, damaged perfed edges. It's hard to believe some collectors still don't take advantage of this basic tool 95%++ collectors have.
Anyway I had a great time, and spent a rare couple hours delving back into the hobby I've been quite constricted, time wise, to enjoying. "It's good to be back" sums it up.
Hoping to be checking out and posting on TSF more often too!

This little stamp, which is a part of a block, arrived today. It fits perfectly in my anti-drugs collection, or more correctly in my anti-alcohol subtheme. Then there is what might be a joint (hard to tell when it looks more like cigarette). But I dont think that smoking is considered being bad for road safety. Smoking cannabis is though. Taking other narcotics is too, so why only target cannabis then? It only makes sense if the small country only has a drinking and cannabis problem and no other drugs. It is hard sometimes not to think about how the postal systems think when they issue stamps...

I received several mailings with purchases off SOR so busy mounting. I need to finalize a mount need list to order some. My wife usually gets them for me for Christmas and joined the Society of Indo-China Philatelist group. The dues is only $5 with electronic delivery. This came in the mail for my 50 year membership in APS. The medal is not some thin stamped sheet metal.

Congratulations angore, 50 years in an organization is a major achievement. I'm a late starter, I just joined the APS for the first time this year. That's a serious looking medal from a great organization.

Congratulations Angore! A milestone, without a doubt. Only 11 years for me since my return to philately (not sure how many years as a kid). I've been spending evenings of late mounting and remounting many of my American stamps. Updating a lot of pages (getting rid of the old Crystal Mounts) and i.d.'ing a lot of stamps that have been languishing in stockbooks, especially those pesky Washington/Franklins. On to the Canadian collection next. Pleasant way to spend a quiet evening.

correcting typo's and reprinting pages, new mounts and loading back with stamps. Also made a list with both Yvert and Scott #'s for SCAPEX this weekend. First in person show for the Sacramento Philatelic Society since the pandemic took control of our lives. I'll be working the registration table for part of the afternoon tomorrow, then I'll see what the 40+ dealers have to offer!
and the weather will be dry after more rain last night. Just not very cold (or cold enough for a fire in the fireplace

Aberdeen stamp club meeting last night, first one I have been able to attend since surgery. Three TSF members present , myself + two newcomers zepp and dave. 27 members + 2 guests . Getting some kind of normality but hand sanitizer, and face masks required. The speaker presented a huge range of commercial mail from early mid 1960 , most but not all were European all with advertising or hotel cachets ….impressive stuff. Today I will put the finishing touch to a small PowerPoint presentation as our club plans a joint Zoom meeting with the Harrogate society in England next week. The other side of stamp collecting , sharing and socialising.

Hi everyone,
It had been a long time since I pick up my tweezers but I just got started with stamping today. A lot of stuff to clear and put in albums. I got a large envelope from a generous from this person I know, it had been sitting in the corner for a while so I started to organizing it today. Been busy with a nice assortment of things, and a lot of odds part. I’ll update more on what I found.
