Just finished both packets. Not a bad harvest in the end. A few series got completed, several nieces pieces I was happy to find, and even a few high CV items tucked in. Maybe about 3/4 duplicates, which is roughly the proportion that I expected in the end. I'll post another pair of back-of-the-book-mystery issues tomorrow. I had a small stockbook (which my grandmother brought me back from Egypt) for the early Egyptian issues, and it is now packed to the brim. The rest either got mounted in my grand-father's album, which covers until 1962, or in the more traditional stockbook, which is now also full! A great stamp week-end. Xavier, I am so glad to hear that the Egypt packets worked out. In one of your earlier posts, it sounded like you had not received what you had expected, and that you might not find enough of the items you had been hoping for. In the end, it sounds like it has worked out well for you, and I am very glad to hear it! Yes. One of the packets I was expecting to be just the UAR period, and was instead all Egypt, but it still worked out pretty well in the end. But I'll be sending some of these duplicates around soon...

I haven't done much in the past week, as something else has been messing with my mind. Anyway, tonyvella sent me some Machins & they arrived today. It is cool & rainy out, so I sorted out the lot this afternoon. I figured with the 100's of issues in the past umpteen years, this would be great. But all I had in the lot were 5 stamps, with maybe a couple of minor varieties. If anyone needs any, I have a heap of spares of each now! Just how many stamps are in this long-running series anyway? I have 5, how many more do I need? One had a nice postmark-of-the-day cancel, but it is for two days ago! Thanks Tony. I have a few odd & ends to send back, but not as many as this!

Londonbus1 Thanks, Londonbus1I turned on the UV light just now & see few few varieties - 1 bar, two bar, white, yellow & barely there tagging. I should look to SG for a Machin's catalog. There must be one for all out there somewhere! I thought I'd just bundle each up and have room for supper. But now it'll take a while. I'll have to eat somewhere else!

I just looked online and found they were first issued 51 years ago! Good grief! There must be 1,000's of these things out there! I didn't realize they had been out for so long!
I didn't realize just what I was getting myself into here!

Just spotted a lot of Machin's at an auction. I may go for it. I'll see how preliminary bids take shape before I decide... And renden has volunteered to take some of the spare Machin's off my hands when I sort them out. Which will be soon, since it is now dark enough to see them better in the UV light. Can I get a volunteer to hold my light while I sort?

Well René, I am done for the night. I think I correctly sorted out the 1st & 2nd Large. They were pretty easy. The small 1st flame, 2nd light blue & 1st Milleniums won’t be quite as easy. When I am done, I’ll fire them off to you.

It is 0530 hrs, and I have just done a cursory check of the 2nd class light blues. It looked like I had a bunc( of the same thing, but... two different self adhesives, PVA, numerous 'violet' tagging bars of varying intensities, some greenish, one with 3 dots. I have only just begun, but I see my life disappearing! I received a couple checklists yesterday, well over 300 pages each! It is overwhelming. THANKS A LOT, tonyvellaI just wish I could inflict the same on you! I just have some rather non-descript definitives from Luxembourg, and a few from here or there.

It is not that difficult really, there are normal old perforations, eliptical perforations, normal regionals with emblems, eliptical regionals with emblems, no value indicated, self adhesive no value indicated, holographic overprint, holographic overprint no value indicated, two different currencies, half a dozen phosphor applications, half a dozen different phosphor reactions, different methods of printing, different shades of many of the colours used, different sizes of lettering and varying placement of the value. Adminware is very good site with lots of pictures, very useful.

As you will see in my recent posts, I bit the bullet and started cataloguing my shoebox chock full of Canada booklets. I expect it will need more than one evening. More samples to come as they strike my fancy.

So I have a pretty comprehensive set. I have worked backwards as well, but there it's a little more spotty. Now if only Canada Post would put a copyright year on the booklets, it would make my job easier! But at least the quasi-yearly rate hikes allow for a relatively narrow range for where to look.

Cudos (Xavier) to you for feeding Canada Post($$$$) - just like my dad did through his collection years........I have not copied his habits (yet) !!! René p.s. actually have not bought anything worthwhile (except this and that) from CANADA post since the 70s.....myself.... but my father did the 80s. I prefer old "stuff" lol lol lol. I use recent stamps (left) for postage fro my friends.

I stopped Canada years ago. Some of the stamps were just plain ugly. Nowadays though, they issue so many booklets and souvenir sheets and this & that, oh and Prestige Booklets! It never ends and is just too much for me. With the way rates have gone as well, just too expensive to keep any of them going.

It never ends and is just too much for me. With the way rates have gone as well, just too expensive to keep any of them going. Indeed, it's quite an investment. But I can't resolve myself to quit just yet. France is actually worse. Many more booklets, sheets, plus the souvenir blocks. Add to these Monaco, SPM, Andorra (both French and Spanish post), French Polynesia, Wallis & Futuna, New Caledonia, and the TAAF. At least Mayotte stopped in 2011 when it became a full-fledged département. I intend to show some of their issues someday, there are a few nice ones. I also subscribe to the UN issues (all 3 administrations), and there it is the personalized stamp sheets where they go crazy. For Germany I still get the new issues as singles, but only the water-adhesive ones. I gave up on their self-adhesive booklets pretty quickly after I moved to France. There's a lot there too. Lastly, trying to stay current with the US, some Guatemala, a few African countries, the yearly Europa issues (Western Europe only), ... it's a treadmill!

Bombadil is Alive and Kicking !!!!!
Well i ended up staying in Turkey way more than i expected!! Procurement process did not go as smooth as i thought it would, on the contrary it was a complete Chaos that ended up successfully after many frustrating moments and setbacks! As am writing now a 40'' feet container is on it's way to Zambia, filled with restaurant equipment and furniture .
hmmm i wonder how many stamps would fit in one of those ?? i think Trillions !!
luckily I was able to pass by to Lebanon for three days before I go back to Zambia for at least 6 month .... it’s my last day and for the next few hours i will be going through more than 2 weeks of unchecked TSF posts !! I’ll leave some for my long 8 hours flight from Dubai to Lusaka, WIFI on board yeeeey !!!
Warning : Lots of "Likes" coming everyone's way!!
