Rainy day yesterday, so I did make some good progress through the African stockbooks. I covered Ifni, Kenya, Mozambique, Malawi, Spanish Morocco, Mauritius, Uganda, Rhodesia and a few others small items. Mauritius was the hardest with the definitive issues having very hard-to-distinguish watermark differences, when you could see the watermark at all... On deck in the next stockbook are Southern Rhodesia, Somalia, Sao Tome e Principe, and Sierra Leone. I expect this will take a few days.

I started working with stamps in my "to be mounted" binder and added some nice GB KGV stamps. They were unused so watermarks wwere easy to see. I have several Vario pages of Grenada stamps to mount and just think how big they are - meaning larger mounts. You did get your money's worth so to speak.

I did not think I had "Israel" stamps. Opened the old Scott Junior Album and found a nice series of used, #2 on. Found a 10X11 #6 - 50m brown.! That Album was bought by my late father in the 60s. In one of his Books,(also bought in the 60s from another collector) found some 80 other Israel stamps, all earlies.......for Israel, a 1948 stamp is early !!. Started Inventory and Album mounting - am taking a break now !! René Some of my findings in old albums: Sc # 2-6; #6 is perf 10X11.....missing #1Sorry for posting Stamps in this thread......I had to.......my discovery of the day

I am happy that @ renden has found some Israel stamps. I hope we will see them here in the not-too-distant future !! Talking of @ renden and 'seeing them here', a very nice-looking packet arrived today from Canada. Our Secretary in the Office who sorts the mail called me over to tell me there was a nice-looking envelope in my mailbox !! She noticed the nice stamps but could not remember where they were from !!! (I scolded her !) Many thanks for the nice Australian Essay Reproduction sheets. They will be finding their new home tomorrow. I owe @ renden (makes note to self). As you may (or may not) have noticed, I have returned to the Commonwealth collection after a 2-week break. I had an overload but now I am back to it and loving the sort. All day Saturday and again Sunday evening I looked through them all trying to find sets ready for selling. My Perf gauge took a battering all day and I managed to discover some watermarks including the lovely examples on the Western Australia 'Swans'. A sheer delight to my stamp 'buds' (as opposed to taste buds ! ) Had fun with all the overprints and surcharges too. So much to look for. I even found one with a hole in the Kings head !! Not nice. Edit: I have just seen the Israel Scans !!! Off to look for my number one !!!

I've been sorting early Scandinavia and printing pages for Denmark. I might be able to mount some today, which is always the time-consuming stumbling block in my house!

Been busy last two days preparing spare room downstairs for my new stamp room. Here is a preview, before loading most of the IKEA shelves. I still have two nine-cube shelving units to assemble...and two more wall units to lug down two flights of steps. When completed I should have plenty of room for expansion, as well as having cubicles available to hold lots of accumulated literature (magazines, auction catalogs, etc.). A few cubicles for stamp albums too :-) My wife has been eager to "get back the (upstairs) guest room" that is/was my former stamp den. I am hoping to be finished by the end of the week. A pesky little thing called 'work' keeps getting in the way! Jim Wentzell stampguyaps177-681

Between you and Jon ( blaamand), there are two killer stamp rooms there. Makes my little office look woefully inadequate.... For the moment, I don't really even have a stamp room here in France, as I do not much material and I just store what I do have in the closet, and pull it out when I want to do something with it. I am back to my roots as a beginner when "kitchen table philately" was my favorite way to do things. I can still remember on Sunday afternoons pulling out my stamps and working on them on the kitchen table with my two sisters, who also had stamps of their own. On Sundays, our main meal was earlier in the day, like 1pm, and after that was over, the kitchen table was available for stamping. Those are some of my best memories from growing up, and perhaps one of the reasons why I still enjoy stamping so much now.

So I sat down to start work on altering the Hungary stamp album pages to MY liking. Well, it is password protected, so I can't do anything to them. I now have a 791 page PDF that is completely useless to me! That was a waste of money. I sent them a message to se if anything can be done, but I am not hopeful. Thanks to firstfrog2013 for his offer yesterday! So I'll set aside Hungary and work on the German stamps that need sorting. Hopefully the lots from auction will be in the mail soon. It has been in the mail now for at least 2-½ weeks. Same with the Greenland cliches. No sign of them yet either.

First Jim I agree with Chris a great stamp den and it will give you many hours of enjoyment.
Chris your early experiences are almost a mirror of my own with my own two sisters although as we had a galley kitchen so we used the dining room table or our bedroom floors.
Pete sorry you had that trouble. As a member here ALWAYS ask here.We collectively have so many resources and the spirit here is like no other site.I defy anyone to find a better bunch.
P.S I'll send along a few mounts anyway.

to a "guardian angel" on this forum, the password was removed. Now I can fiddle all I want. This forum is amazing! EDIT: Another one tried to defeat the password & opened it in Libre Office. I have a pretty good PDF app that was never bothered with passwords, but balked at this Hungary Album. I never thought to use any other app. Now I have other ways to alter locked PDF's that my app won't touch. Thanks, angore!

Xavier and I did, indeed, have a stamp lunch, and it was great. And it was also good to pass on some of my duplicate material to someone who wanted it, and was willing to give me material which I wanted for my collection. Hopefully, it was just one of what will become many more chances to exchange stamps during my time here in France. Ironically, despite my photos with both Londonbus1 and jimwentzell where I proudly show my stamp tongs, I forgot to bring them to the trading session, which hampered our progress a bit. I will remember them the next time. As blaamand would say, "Stay stampy!"

I should also try not to forget the watermark detector and UV light.

Is there such a thing as a "stampwich" lunch? Mustard and mayo with a mini-sheetlet--or maybe booklet panes of Swiss on rye. My mouth is watering at the possibilities.

I have a 4 shelf bookcase (has a lower section with doors). In order to get 3 shelves with Vario binders/slip cases, I had to drill some holes to allow it move them where I needed one for spacing. The Varios are a tad taller than most bookshelves typically allow on all shelves.
As a result one shelf is now much shorter than the other three. I now have 23 albums in use (3 spares remaining). I keep expanding so have stopped labeling them with anything remotely final.

Messing around with this A YMCA with HM Forces on Active Service Postcard, used to request an address change by Great Western Railway in 1916. I have inculded it because of the 'on active service' markings despite its use.

cleaning out the desert magic drying book and cataloging what was in there from last year.As you know I try to collect mint and used singles and at least a used block but many also have a mint block as well. The clean out was in order before I can start soaking that roasting pan full of close cut accumulation from last winter to date.

Today I have not been stamping. The tenants are gone, there are holes in the vinyl floor covering in the kitchen, mould around the window and door, he, a chef, left the cooker in an unhygenic state and she is a cleaner for the local university. I do have a deposit to take compensation from. According to him I am being too hard on him. Ohh dear.

I am now mounting 1970's Grenada. All were large and printed on thick paper. Many souvenir sheets but do not have many of them. Almost every issue set takes an album page and they were very busy. They had not gone Disney at this point.

On the last meet in my local stamp club (Bergens Filatelistklubb) I bought a mini auction lot containing two old cigar boxes with stamps. The stamps in one of them was mostly off paper and from all over the world. I might have similar "collections" or "hoardings" of stamps laying around in my "stamp cave" from before, but haven't taken me time ti look at it. However with this lot I'm going to do, and I have started. My plan is to soak off all remains of paper, hinges and other rubbish from the stamps. Remove all those with cracks, missing corners, thins and defects, only keep the good ones. Then I will sort them and register them. How many different, what countries, what is the rarest and what is the most common. The possibilities for different statistic here is endless. I started yesterday with the first soaking an are at the moment sorting those in small piles for every country. I think maybe I will make a ovn tread for this project, if I find a proper place here at TSF. (I haven't had much time for TSF because I have been busy with "stamping" ) Unfortunately I did't take a picture of the box full of stamps, but from now on I will document the project as it goes on.
Work in progress.

tobben63 That is a nice little project you have going.I wish I had the knowledge and equipment to post pictures like those.I think somewhere around here there's a digital camera but I have no idea how to use it.My own soaking project is going to be massive in comparison.Ryan is probably our guru on huge soaking episodes.I tend to get distracted by one or two stamps and the progress suffers.Maybe today will be the day it all starts.

I have just short set of these which I posted here: thestampforum.boards.net/post/63157/thread
