I am concerned I have turned a corner since I have been buying some general albums and specific country collections and have many common stamps from the 1940s to 1980 (my focus). Now, to fill those spaces, it will take an order of magnitude more effort as I try to not to acquire a lot of duplication. I am in the same situation. For many of the countries that I collect, I now have serious quasi-complete holdings for the second half of the 20th century and chasing the remaining stragglers gets difficult. Buying country packs just leads to 90%+ duplicates and is objectively a waste of money unless the duplicates can be remonetized or traded effectively.

Took advantage of the rainy holiday to finish going through the contents of the shoe boxes. Not back to the bookshelves. Mostly UN yearly collections in my near future...

One hundred and eighty piles of stamps left from about two hundred and fifty countries spead out on boards or in punnets. Just putting 'I' away.

Working on adding covers I picked up last month to my Postal History Inventory. A work in progress.... Here is a screenshot of some of the additions. The description field (B) I print out and insert into the cover sleeve, along with my selling price (discounted, more often than not!). My cost (price paid) for example 1018E also refers to the month and year I acquired it. Just a handy guide for a future cover dealer! :-) Many of the covers/cards get scanned too, as I plan a clickable link to a picture of the scan in another field. The first column is my internal memo/notes (ts = to scan, for example) and the date following the country name refers to the cancellation date. If the date is "1912 era" for instance, it means that the date is a guess. I'd love to see others' inventory lists, especially as pertains to postal history! Jim's Postal History Inventory--

so today was going to be for BNA but waiting at P.O. was another large lot of Bolivia so plans changed.Inside cat was at groomers for flea treatment and we bombed the house.Question is where the fleas came from ?The two cats have never mingled and the outside cat is flea free? I do use those flea drops on the back of their necks so at least I try.

Consulted my wife, groomer-trainer etc of dogs and cats........it is a question of....."were flea eggs were present"......they are never Killed by the "stuff" you put and the outdoor cat might have "eggs" also"........Denise says you have a complicated situation (indoor cats and outdoor cat) The VET should be able to figure everything out......wishing you "Good Luck" and another great Stamp day !!! firstfrog2013,My wife and I have been in the pet business for over twenty years (we presently have a doggy daycare/grooming/petfood store) I have found success with using diatomaceous earth--a natural, non-toxic white powder/sand made up of tiny ground-up diatoms (think plankton-size creatures, with hard coral-like skeletal remains) The powder-like substance can be freely sprinkled anywhere pets sleep or rest; not a lot is needed. The fleas ingest/breath the tiny granules and it kills them due in part to the very sharp, minuscule rough edges. Diatomaceous earth also dehydrates them as it absorbs any moisture like a desiccant. No chemical reactions to worry about. Also effective against bed-bugs, roaches, ants, and most other small insects. You must remember it does NOT kill instantly; the critters die slowly (hours or up to a day or more later, depending on exposure and ingestion rates). Some people even ingest d.e. (ie mix it with water and drink it!) if you do an online search (I use dogpile search engine, not Google!) you will be amazed. I have been using d.e. (diatomaceous earth) for years and I am only on my SECOND five pound bag of the stuff. We can count the number of dogs over the years spotted with a flea on one hand--usually a client's dog coming in for grooming! Sprinkle it from a large salt or flour shaker....it works outside in ant piles too. Big chemical companies, I am sure, have persuaded Home Depot and other retailers from pulling d.e from their shelves as it greatly reduces the need for expensive and TOXIC poisons known as pesticides. Di-a-tom-a-ceous earth.....it's easy to pronounce, hard to find, earth-friendly, and it works! Jim Wentzell stampguyaps177-681 you can visit my "real-job" business at: www.apassionforpetsplaycare.com

So my rant for today. I'm mounting stamps by sets and of course it always seems that one stamp is oversized and requires a size larger mount than the others.Progress being made though and the extras will be going to our friend Nikhil soon.

Jim is that the same material I used to use in my swimming pool filter? Amazing what knowledge we collectively own. There is a " food grade" diatomaceous earth that is consumed internally by some, as mentioned, as a supplement for some supposed benefit. I just buy the stuff on Amazon, whichever is more economical. I can't remember there being much of a difference between food and non-food grade, except price (a bit of a premium for food grade, but it's negligible). Notice my powdery sneaker in the picture below--it can be quite messy (like baby powder)!

Have had little, if any, time to work on my collection(s).
About the only stamping activity I've engaged in of late has been trying to acquire material for illustrations accompanying future TSF Newsletter articles.

Wishing all a great weekend.....tonight we go back an hour !! Atlantic Time (Eastern Canada) René Rene, a couple of sites i have found useful are adminware.ca/machin And. www.machin-stamp.co.uk. The first one is Canadian. He has great colour photos of the major types and lots of info about paper types, gum, and security features. He does not list any catalog numbers. I find the images sufficient. The second site is a dealer who lists and sell Machins. He has great images as well and does list by catalog number. hope this might lessen the frustration for you. david

Finished cataloguing the stuff of my bookshelves and now going through the African stockbooks. Still much left to do... Yes indeed, Xavier, you need to finish up going through those African stock books to get ready for more stuff which is headed your way! By way of explanation: below are some items I have picked up from the Aix market in the past weeks for Xavier: document with France fiscal stamps, some Semeuse & Merson France precancels, and the Curie French colonial omnibus set (only half are shown in the photo). The stock cards at the top of the photo show some British Africa duplicates I have been sorting in preparation to trade to Xavier at a future meeting. When we had our stamp day together at his house some weeks ago, I found quite a few items of interest in his duplicates, but had little to offer in trade at the time. I managed to grab a few items when I was back in California recently, so hopefully we can now have a mutually beneficial trading session sometime in the near future....

I spent a lot of time yesterday mounting some residual worldwide stamps. The primary area was Australia. As a result, I decided to modify some Steiner PDFs with LibreOffice Draw to break spaces for strips into singles since I collect mostly used.

I found out last night that I won another lot in an auction. This time it is a mint (mainly MNH ) semi-postal set from Luxembourg (Scott B50-B54; Michel 245-249; SG 307-311) of Countess Ermesinde issued on December 8th, 1932. My semi-postal collection is slowly becoming complete.

So today I decided to tackle a packet of Manitoba Law stamps. For those not educated or without a Van Dam catalog they first fall into two groups, six scallops or nine scallops. Then the fun(??) begins. No the first ones are not the plain ones they are overprinted L S the second series C F both 9 scallops. Then the real fun begins LS inked out with hand written CF.or LS in ink.then hand stamped CF on the LS with two different spaced letters and on and on.To top it all off they also require watermarking and some of the hand stamps require discerning if that light stamp is BF or JF.The reward of wading through them all is that the last series of similar design are the ones without any over printings. No wonder I kept putting them aside.

Well I only screwed up one page putting the six scallops before the nine scallops. They will stay that way for now maybe one day in the distant future I'll redo that page.Nothing over the top to report but many in the $30-50 range. In my eyes another job done. This afternoon I'll start at page one of BNA and go through and make new pages as required all the way through the entire collection. There have been numerous times that I buy stuff that is going to require that I expand but at the time I either just stick it in the page protector or stuff it on the page anyway.I also noticed I have done the same with some revenues but that may take a back seat for awhile. I better hurry 'cause as usual I have many more lots on the way and bids on many more.
