As far as stamping this week, I just got in some Ohio & Georgia revenues for my books. It is getting harder and harder to find the ones I need any more. So during the hot part of today, I will be readjusting my books for the new stamps.

My desk is also in front of a window. I prefer daylight to lamp. Since I usually quit stamping for the day at dinner time I don't have to worry about the correct bulb in my lamp.

tobben63 I do stamp inventory during daytime - evenings are for relaxing with friends and my wife. I do not have the Michel Color chart. However, for the Cérès and Napoléon, I use Bernard Binette's "Le grand nuancier des timbres classiques de France Cérès et Napoléon 1849-76". 375 assorted shades but his book is not that easy to use........so many shades !! René .....happy you are not color blind

Interesting discussion ongoing about light source for stamping. I think it might have been me that got the ball rolling (?) in this STAMP ROOM THREAD
Glad to see some are finding it useful mikeclevenger did an interesting test on 6500K lightbulb. I've done similar and it is just so obvious that the correct light source makes such a huge difference, in particular if trying to establish shades. Keep in mind it is not only the temperature of the light that is important, just as important with a high color rendering index, CRI should be above 0.90. brightonpete - I seem to remember that all the new LED Ottlite's are at 6500K and have a very high CRI, at 0.97 or 0.98 - don't get much better than that !

Stamping at daytime you say?? What a luxury, lucky you. I have 4 kids, cats, a dog, a house, cars, huge garden - and quite a demanding wife on top of that - so finding time for stamping at day time is very hard!! Hence 90 % of my stamping is happening before the family wakes up - or after gone to bed.....so I rely on 'artificial' daylight in my stamp cave. It comes highly recommended, the replication of sunlight also has the added benefit of keeping you awake into the small hours as well! Normally the production of sleepy-hormones are triggered by the failing of the sunshine - no such thing if you have tons of it installed in your ceiling renden - Enjoy the Semeuse!! That's a marvellous series for studies of different types and sub-types, shades etc, in particular the 25c blue - that's quite a challenge! The listings in Maury are very extensive, but unfortunately I found the illustrations for the different types are not always the best. I used several specialist sites online for better illustrations and more meat for the bone. Here's one example of such a site solely dealing with the 25c blue: LINK Point to the menu 'Presentation' for different types etc. Good luck my friend. edit: This SOWER SPECIALIST SITE is really good!!

My Ott-Lite of a fluorescent bulb. So it is the old type. I'll head to a light shop with those specs blaamand mentioned and see what they have. They should have something in their large stock of bulbs and fixtures. A new fixture will be needed as well. Maybe a Dyson light! I'll see what they have before I check further on a Dyson. They are pricey!

Even though it is Canada Day, even though the weather is beautiful, I worked on stamps. I started by buying a whack of mounts and a 64-page stockbook for all my duplicate Germans. I have way too many of those, with more on the way. I added a few pages to the modern German commemoratives album. It takes a while to fact-check the various people & events being noted.
One BIG thing I missed when I was living in Germany (from 1984-1987,) was the recent local history. Most Canadian Military people over there probably didn't for obvious reasons. There was a gasthaus in Hügelsheim that was owned by a couple who were said to be with Hitler. Canadians avoided it, as I suppose if we would go in, we would not be welcomed. Well, lots of gasthauses all over anyway.
I noted one stamp in my collection for the 1st Nazi pogrom, or violent riot, AKA Kristallnacht. A stamp they issued in 1988 marking the 50th anniversary of this most significant pogrom in Nazi Germany. That must have been a very scary time for anyone living in Germany! The stamp has a picture of a synagogue in Baden-Baden in flames. I never knew of that happening, and Hügelsheim is just a few minutes away. I knew of the Caracalla Baths, which date back to Roman times, but the history of the world wars wasn't discussed much, if ever.
Some people want to re-write history to stop the pain. It is happening in Canada. But what happened, happened... there's no erasing history and one can only learn from it, hoping that some of it doesn't happen again.
Of the few stamps I have in this time period, it is in my stockbook, about to be mounted on an album page...

Wise words brightonpete ! Lately I've been working on a new concept for a general re-stucture of my WW collection. Been considering options for years, and I have now arrived at my new 'structure philosophy'. So been working to implement the change, in terms of making a new 'road-map', re-structuring my excel country spreadsheet according to the new plan etc. The biggest part of this still remains obviously, but that's for the next 50 years - namely to transfer all stamps from stockbooks into a combination of DIY pages and Vario sheets. Curious to what 'organization concepts' other WW collectors prefer. For anyone interested, please participate in THIS THREAD. (Let's not corrupt this thread )

Look forward to read your re-stucture tread blaamand , I have noticed it, but need time..... I have finished sorting Sweden, took me more than two weeks. And just in time I got three small lots bought on e-bay. One with various Norwegian on small stock sheets. In totally disorder. And I did find a lot. Lot of nice postmarks. Showing some from the Tourist series from 1938-39. They are printed in at least three different papers, with and without watermarks. Have not examined them yet, there are 50-100 of them. Showing some nice postmarks here.

Not a lot of stamping going on with me lately. My gardening clients are being a bit a « needy » lately. I am out most days when weather permits. As evenings are so nice I am always out enjoying it. Just no energy left to work at night. I have managed to order some stamps and win a few auctions. I could work on printing new pages.
Happy Stamping to all.

tobben63 ....if you have a few dups of nice postmarks......send them to Jon blaamand ......he loves 'em renden blaamand Actually all these stamps are going to be put out for sale after summer on a Norwegian auction site (www.gibud.no). Can't keep everything. I thake what I need to my own collection and sell or exchange the rest. I keep all the old "Posthorn" stamps I find, to examin them closely some day. Lot's of littereture on these available. This will reduce the cost of getting stams and I like to "play" "dealer" Selling good postmarks are good buisiniss in Norway, lots of "home town" collecters. But I keep the scann of stamps with good postmarks I have sold or exchanged.

I got my larger harp from a larger lamp at Goodwill.

They showed me their brightest build that they sell, a 3000K or so. Wow, it was VERY bright, and I wanted one twice as bright? I then went looking for a new Ott-Lite, but no one around here sells them now. I could buy some bulb online, but would it fit the older fixture I have? I'll stick with what I have.

I am working on modern Belgium these days. Several different paper types of the definitives, even one I cannot make out at all. Papier Epacar...really?? what is that? Michel doesn't touch it at all, and COB doesn't explain it, at least I cannot find it. Oh well, I just skipped them, need to draw the line somewhere. It was more than enough to sort the other 6 papers used on the moderne definitives! Normal, white, typo, polyvalent, phosphor and fluor papers....a bit over the top really... Almost done, looking forward to organise the postmarks after, that is like enjoying the sweet meal when the main course is done

Thanks for trying to help Rene. I actually found that forum thread myself as well. But did it help? Not the least, was just more confused by that very 'unclear' response given in the thread. Seems like no one else on this Belgium forum dared to say anything to clarify the question, so it seems to me this paper is a bit of a questionmark even for the more knowledgable Belgium collectors (?). I was actually that very thread that made my mind up to just forget about it! As I said, need to draw the line somewhere - that paper is not for me
