I just sorted through the lot of covers from Luxembourg I received a little while ago. There are so many, I sorted them by month, but didn't count them all yet. I had started posting them in the "Postmark of the Day" thread, but come September, there are gobs of them. So I decided I'll keep up with the postmarked date style of posting new covers, but over here. July, August & February are the weakest, September, March through May the strongest.
This way I won't overwhelm the other, original thread!

I missed a cover from earlier this month, so I'll start off with it, albeit late... Cancelled on the 3rd of July, 1960 at Diekirch, it recognizes the 700th Anniversary of the Franchise Charter.

I'm also not as bound to dates as the other thread, so if there are any without a discernible date on them, I'll throw them up whenever. Such as this cover. I can't for the life of me make out the date, even playing with layers... So it was cancelled sometime in the latter ½ of July. Close enough for me! It has a special cancellation for the celebration of the rose. The show went on from the 15th to the 22nd, so this cover was cancelled on one of those dates.

Beneath the cachet, the date of the "obliteration speciale" is specified, May 30, 1956. This seems odd, as it's more than a week after the event. But that date seems official, pre-printed and everything.
===== So it's actually a first day cover, but no such indication, although the weak cancel could conceivably say something like "Ausgabe Tag" or similar wording.

The Flower Festival ran from 15 to 22 July, 1956 but the stamp on the cover was issued on May 30, 1956 (Scott 313).

Are you sure? I tried running the postmark through retroReveal but the image quality was insufficient to be able to make out anything resembling a date. If you try scanning just the postmark on the stamp at 600dpi then retroReveal may allow you to determine the date of cancellation.

The show was after the issue date, as you noted. On going over the cancellation, there is just nothing there to see. Maybe I'll do just what you suggest. Something MIGHT be hidden...

I think I can see a "2" at the lead, so it is probably in the 20-22 range for dates. It is a public image in that site...

D'oh! I have a Celestron Microscope! Here is a photo from that - nothing... You can clearly see the "7" for the month on the right, but there is pretty much nothing else to see of the day.

I'll also add this unknown date here as well. Sometime, on the 8th of some month in 1982, this was posted. Awful cancellation, in that the day isn't the lest bit visible. The day (8) is, with a dash. Then nothing...
... that is at least legible!

Well! On looking just now at the full-size cancel, I'd say the date is the 22nd. Would anyone agree?
Now back to the regularly schedules posts!

I was almost 11 months old when this cover was cancelled - July 17, 1956 at 16h00 or so. Wow, this must be worth something! Only 250 were issued! hahaha...

Here is a cover from a Youth Philatelic Exposition in Berdorf, Luxembourg from July 24th, 1971. It is tiny town located in the east-central part of the country, along the German border. The 2-½ franc definitive showing the profile of Grand Duke (1965-1993) Jean was issued on July 1st, 1971.

European Day souvenir postcard from this day in 1958, using the latest Europa set issued on September 13, 1958. Where to put this post? I ended up putting in the Luxembourg: Covers thread, altho it could be in any of a number! Let's get this thread up to the Postmark-of-the-Day thread numbers!

Congress on the use of steel with Europa 1964 souvenir cover, using the apt stamp celebrating the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Schumann Plan. This plan integrated the coal and steel industries in Europe under one main authority. It eventually led the way to the EEC and ultimately, the European Union.

First flight cover on November 3rd, 1962, from Luxembourg to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Flown on Kar-Air (ultimately ended up bought out by Finnair) flown more than likely on a Douglas DC-3. Back-stamped the same day at Tenerife. They used the Europa pair issued September 18th, 1961 (Michel 647-648)

Yet another cover from Luxembourg. This one is a first day cover from November 7th, 1956. It celebrates the centennial of the "Council of State", and uses the 2 franc brownish-black stamp from the pair that was issued. It shows the portrait of Ignace de la Fontaine. He was the first president of the Council, and remained in the position for 11 years.

November 11, 1964 saw Grand Duke Jean ascend to the throne, and take over from his mother, Grand Duchess Charlotte. He is pictured on the stamp with his wife, Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium with whom he had five children.

On the anniversary of the ending of WWII, a commemorative cover was issued of Prince Henri, (son of Grand Duke Jean,) using his Royal Wedding stamp issued on June 22, 1981. It proclaimed "Vive le Prince" - "Long Live the Prince". Henri would have to wait 19 years before he would ascend the throne as Grand Duke.

I missed a few from back in August, so here they are, just a bit late. No worries, as this is just a covers thread, not postmark specific. Although I do try Philatelic Exposition in Diekirch on August 3, 1974, using the Princess Marie-Astrid - Red Cross Youth Association President stamp issued Mar 14, 1974 This one was just a plain card, so I just cropped it to the cancel. Cancelled on August 22, 1951 using the Grand Duchess Charlotte definitive issued March 20, 1946. The 15th Anniversary of Railworker Philatelists August 28, 1976 using the low value Europa stamp issued on May 3, 1976 Philatelic Exposition celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Stamp Lovers held in Luxembourg & cancelled on August 29, 1965 using the 3 franc slate green Grand Duke Jean definitive issued on April 5, 1965.

Time machine saves the day again. I had moved a bunch of files to the new computer, but where did they go? Darn, I had already deleted them from the old one. But digging in to Time Machine found everything that went *poof* somehow on the new one. This souvenir cover is dated November 19, 1966 and was for an International Exposition of Photographers of there Post & Telegraphs Association (?). Something along that line. Nice city view in the postmark though.

Back in 1965, there was a Children's Stamp Exposition going on in Luxembourg. Here are a couple souvenir covers from that show. This one with the 10th Anniversary of the creation of the European Schools in Luxembourg, Brussels, Varèse, Mol & Karlsruhe. This stamp was issued on April13, 1963, Michel #666 SG #716 and Scott #400. This cover has Michel #637; SG #691 & Scott #376 - the low value of a set of 4 issued on May 15, 1961 highlighting Animal Protection. This stamp features the Great Spotted Woodpecker. I don't know why these souvenir covers were so popular. I'd rather have one of the same go through the mail.

Here are a couple of souvenir covers celebrating National Stamp Day in 1958. Great cancels on these, as they are very easy to read. Don't even need a magnifying glass to figure them out! Quite rare, with only 100 printed! Maybe I can buy that house on the bay now! They used the Loe value of the September 13, 1958 Europa stamp Michel #590SG #640 Scott #341 Number 759 of how many? Won't do me any good! I have to leave this and go for a walk before my head explodes! I'll completely divest myself of the cloud with Apple so everything is where I can reach it anytime... I'll be back later
