This is my first post, aside from the introduction. These two stamps are not in Scott's (no surprise). I think they might be revenue stamps. Any assistance would be appreciated! stampguyusa (Jim)

Both stamps would probably fall under the "National Savings and Reconstruction" - printed by the Central Trust, Chungking The top characters in both stamps are identical (different fonts) and indicate they are postal savings
1942 President Lin Sen .0.50c, perf 13, rouletted and perf 10.5-11.5
1943 "Old Coin" $1 - line perf 13, comb perf 12.5
Both sets are fairly common and easily obtained for about $10
These were generally not valid for postage but there was a 1944 issue that could be used and it is in most catalogs.
Original postal savings stamps started in 1919. People deposited their money at the post office and they were given stamps for future redemption. This was followed by issues of various overprinted "anti-bandit" stamps
Then there are Wartime Postal Savings stamps in 1943 - anyway a complex area to collect

Thank you, nl1947, for the addition information. I just read a little about the Anti-bandits, in old back issues of "China Clipper". I don't know a whole lot, but understand some are rather on the expensive side. I think I will stay with postal stamps. Thank you for the interesting comments!

Yes they get expensive and complicated This 1943 Kwangtung issue is differentiated from others by measuring the position and spacing of the same characters that appear on other province stamps (about 35 varieties).

Never mind, not long after posting, I found the stamps. They are the C.N.C. issue of 1946. Scott listed them as numbers 615-621. As it turns out I have the complete set.

Here is a block of four that I cannot find in Scott's. Location and year would be nice and a Scott's number would be great! Thanks for looking! Stampguyusa (Jim)

What I collect: Primarily focused on Japan, but lots of other material catches my eye as well ...

Someday I'll get around to understanding China better (my focus has been Japan), but I'm reasonably sure that I've learned before that this particular overprint makes it a postal savings stamp, and, if I'm correct about that, it won't be listed in Scott for that reason.
For me, it's the left-most character of the overprint (which reads right to left) that's the key:
金
That is the character used in Chinese (and Japanese, for that matter) for 'money' and 'gold', and is the first character in the compound for 'bank'.
Hope that's helpful!
But I'm happy to be corrected about this, and I bet someone else on this board can supply more in-depth information!

I want to thank the people who have helped me find the Chinese stamps that have puzzled me. I am down to the last five stamps. This pair had very weak overprints, but for photo manipulation, I was able to enhance the image. The year and place would be nice, but a Scott's number would be wonderful!
Thanks again for all your assistance!

Use 1942/43 Probable types shown below Postal Savings Revenues no Scott#
30c Fukien overprint on 10c Central Trust Characters appear weak on this series
These can be difficult. as mentioned the characters vary in spacing and size by province Based on the narrow spacing and height of the characters, probably -
Szechwan overprint on Central Trust
Perf 10½-11½ Also found in a much neater perf 13

Thank you again nl1947, This actually makes me feel better, because if. it isn't in Scott's, no wonder I couldn't find it. I have three more stamps that I cannot find, and I will post them later.
Cheers! Jim (stampguyusa)

This is the last China ID post I will make, until I need some more help. I appreciate the assistance. These three stamps have been giving me a tough time. The year, location would be useful, as Scott's catalog number would also be useful. Thanks again for all the past help!

2. Sinkiang ovpt. Restrictecl for Use in Sinkiang 1941 3. North China Japanese Occupation JP-NC 316 1942

Thanks again nl1947!
You have been a great help. I thought the first was Taiwan, but could not find the 2 1/2 issue in Scott. I will look again. Looks like my sorting and cataloging of almost 200 Chinese stamps is now complete. I shouldn't have waited 18 years to get the job done.
Thanks again!

Scott has assigned the same catalog number to both the perf. 14 and imperf versions of the stamp, rather than assigning separate numbers for each variety.

Looks like the Michel China 2013 (overseas band 9.1) edition is similar as it lists A (perf) and B (imperf) versions of each stamp:

I can tell you that there were 1,250,000 perforated stamps printed of each color, and only 500,000 unperforated stamps of each color printed. There is also a gray-green version that was issued the following May, both perforated and unperforated, using the original plate. I don't have numbers for that.
The ROC Post identifies them as:
Commemorative 29 1 Rose red perforated 2 Gray green perforated 3 Rose red 4 Gray green

renden , My intent was to show that the listing in Scott was consistent with their stated listing policy: Others have provided several "better" catalogs from which to choose.
