I may have mentioned this before but a couple of weeks ago, I printed pages for East Germany up to 1959, Berlin and also, Bavaria. These are all German areas that I have accumulated a large number of stamps. The last several evenings and weekend I have been mounting Bavarian stamps and also started transferring from my old Scott International to my Steiner pages.

In follow-up, Darrin, do you think that Steiner pages will accommodate all the "German Stamps" - I will check prior to printing them but your experience might save me lots of time as Steiner=Scott !! and I do not think Scott is the right catalog for German stamps ?

Rene ( renden ) IMHO Michel is an excellent guide to German stamps- unless you are collecting modern issues, a used older copy can be found for a very nice price! And you can practice your German language skills!

renden,I have the Worldwide Steiner pages to 2010 and the Classic pages. For Bavaria, as you noted, the Steiner pages follow the Scott catalogue, though, if you have the Classic pages, I noted that Steiner added additional boxes for varieties and minor numbers. It is likely nowhere near as complete as Michel, however, though I don't see any reason why you couldn't follow Michel and add blank pages to include any stamps that were not listed in Scott. For my Germany to 1945 I actually use a pre-printed set of album pages I bought from a company called Album Publishing Company, Inc. which published a Germany album to 1945 based on the 1989 Michel Germany specialized catalogue. It is, unfortunately, no longer published and I feel luck to have it as it is 8 volumes of pages and covers every minor number Michel number from the catalog. After 1945, and for German States and East Germany I use Steiner. I have been steadily moving everything out of my Scott Internationals just because I became disappointed with them for the same reasons you are.

I had to move on to Bavarian officials and filled in this page a little bit more with a few of the Coat of Arms issues of 1916 that I had not mounted yet. These are fortunately 24mm high and not 25mm so I had mounts that I could use. The image is cropped a bit and does not show the two empty spaces for the 1M stamps at the bottom.

I need an Ein Kreuzer ! Mi 1. “ a Schwarzen Einser” Rene’. renden , The two scans you show have differences 1. The four corner squares. Genuine has neat lozenges , white and grey tones, forgery has clumsy shading black lumps. 2. The random wavy line, like jigsaw is sharp and clean in the genuine, the forgery seems to lose its way and is more of a meaningless jumble. So if the first image is genuine the second cannot be !

Hi WERT the price difference is easy to explain. The stamp presented by Goldhahn is a Bavaria Nr 1, the famous "Schwarzer Einser" and the first stamp of Germany. The other one is Bavaria Nr 3. The colour is different and the picture is different, too. So total different plates. Total different stamps. By the way, Goldhahn is one of the biggest stamp dealer (maybe the biggest?) in Germany. If you are looking for any German stamp, you will find it. You will find nearly every variety, but ... it is certainly not the cheapest way to buy stamps cara

Re-looked at the 3 pages of this BAVARIA stamp thread and found "mucho" interesting posts/stamps/opinions. I figured we have some great BAVARIA "members" on TSF - I remember sending my list to a member but he never came back.....must be busy buying BAVARIA Since I did a trade with a member, a super person, and that resulted in my Bavaria stamps collection being more interesting.....now I have 157 classics, starting with Scott # 2, a 3kr blue. These 2 are my favourites (for looks) and are duplicates: Sc #92-93 (1911)

several years back I purchased an 'accumulation" of Germany/German States, mostly sight unseen from a stamp acquaintance. He'd received it in a larger lot an offered it to at a price I figured couldn't be too financially damaging so I agreed/ A week later a a USPS Priority mail 9 x 12 x 2 'box" arrived, stuffed full of pages from albums that had been cut out, pages like this, stock pages and envelopes full of clean/used, hinged and on paper stamps. It took me months to get it all cleaned up. Pages like below I placed in a protector and stuck in a binder... where it awaits my someday focus on Germany (after France, Belgium... and hard to say where the journey will lead. Anyway Renés two large stamps made me think of this page with those and other larger stamps! (I hope it wasn't I who René sent the list too.... )

To mark the death centenary of Ludwig II of Bavaria, the German Federal Post Office issued a stamp. This souvenir sheet features the stamp postmarked on the first day of issue at Bonn on 5th May 1986. Above it is an embossed stamp essay designed by J. Reis in 1865 depicting a profile portrait of Ludwig. A very attractive design.

Here are two key stamps for the Kingdom of Bavaria, #1 and Scott 29/Michel 26X. #29 is from the Ludwig II era. This example has the watermark 93 (narrower diamonds).
