What I collect: Worldwide - Stamps and Postmarks - not enough time...

spain1850 - That's an impressive custom page for the different types of the regent Luitpold, well done. I've made something similar, however mine is more scarcily populated Some of them are not too easy to find, even with huge numbers to search through. It's also out of the ordinary to see the cogwheel numeral cancellation used this late in the day. According to a reference of the different Bavaria numerals, number 51 was used in Bobingen. The reference indicates it was used until 1869, ref this snip-out: Yours was cancelled more than 50 years later! (This reference might only apply for the usage of the cogwheel for the first quadrant stamps) I'm curious to know how long these postmarks were still in use, would anybody know?

Late use of "Mühlradstempel" (Luitpold 5 Pfg.): There is a note in Michel, what says:
Late used "Mühlradstempel" (from March 10th,1869)((!!)) occur.
On Luitpold it is indeed a very late use.Very nice !

Here is my page for the Luitpold issues, in all 3 types. Missing only the 80pf for type II. As I understand it, it may be rather difficult to find. Hey, send me your address and I will send you the missing 80pf. I hate seeing such a nice page with one missing stamp. I have an extra one.
Have a great day, Mike.

Cogwheel cancel, late use: I wonder if it's possible this might be a favor cancel of sorts? blaamand, Thank you. It's actually one of the few pages for Bavaria that I have, that doesn't look sparse. I will make a note for 51 as being from Bobingen. Great information. salentin, Thank you for the Michel information. I really must get a Michel catalog. mikeclevenger, Thank you. I have sent you a message.

I have a useful reference for all the Bavaria numeral cancellations (PDF), including both the closed and open wheel. Let me know if interested and I will share it with you spain1850 (or anyone else interested for that matter) I agree! Sent you a PM.

For those designing their own pages, here's some additional Luitpold stuff to consider:

I really must get a Michel catalog. I needed them too, and someone gave me a copy. Then I found out they have it in English, so I went on Amazon and bought one, then someone here sent me the PDF version in English. So, I have a brand new, unopened English version sitting on my stamp catalog shelf. I figured I may need it someday when my computer breaks down. May as well keep it now, it is already paid for. LOL. I wouldn't know what to do without the generous people here on the Stamp Forum. This forum has the nicest people in the world!

received today- slightly larger than 8-1/2 x 11... will make a page design simple, but quite challenging 1875 Sc#34 watermark 94. fragile sheet, some of the perfs have separated, so handling is precarious- but I like it!

(See earlier post for image.) WOW! I am envious of that find. You rarely see such a nice example of old Bavaria stamps. It would look great framed.
Have a great day.

I bought another stock book full of Bavaria just to get a few stamps with wheel cancels, and some extra stock. (Like I actually need more!) so if anyone needs anything on these pages, I can probably help you out. just let me know. I still need a few of these, mostly just to replace mine with hinges for mint not hinged, and I do need some of these wheels cancels, but I have extras of all those stamps anyway.
Have a great day. Mike.

mikeclevenger : Yes, I may frame it rather than try and mount on a page Just make sure you get the special UV glass to protect the color. I have made that mistake before.
Have a great day. Mike.

K B Stempel 20 Pfennig I'm not sure this is correct- but I think this is a Bavarian tax stamp of some type, but having little luck identifying. Did find something searching the net that ties the single standing crowned lion with the oval shield as being associated with Bavaria... though I find no other mention Date appears to be Jan 1 1879

stainlessb yes definitely a Bavarian tax stamp. Forbin lists it as no.2 (of a set of seven) from 1876 with a horizontal wavy watermark or possibly no.8 the 20 pfennig yellow with a vertical wavy watermark. I assume KB stands for Königreich Bayern.

Stan, while experimenting with different ways to take images of stamps, I discovered that having sunlight coming through the bottom of a stamp will clearly show watermarks in most cases. Even if the stamp is still on a piece of the envelope. Here is the rig I used for the images in my post thestampforum.boards.net/thread/7761/color-variant-bavarian-embossed-stampThe stamp sits on a piece of white printer paper taped to a thin piece of glass held in the open frame and the mirror allows me to reflect the sunlight directly up through the stamp. I can shade the top to only have light coming up through it or I can move the shade to have it illuminated both ways. I have a small piece of white-painted aluminum flashing I can slide under the glass piece to block out light coming from under the stamp so the stamp is illuminated only from above. Very handy little rig. The point being, that sunlight through the bottom of your stamp may let you see the watermark without having to remove the stamp and losing the extra writing. BTW, for the posted image, I had rotated the rig 180 degrees. Also, the mirror is not laying totally flat underneath the stamp. I had a small piece of wood siding left from some repair work, and the mirror is laying on that because of the small extra angle it provides.

With paper still intact? Did the LED reveal it or did you wind up removing the paper?

Spent part of the morning soaking one "pile" and removing Germany from pages for the next round. I find I have quite a few Bayren stamps, but I'm not sure the top stamp belongs...I think it is Northern Federation... but admittedly this is new uncharted waters for me, but by the time I get this sorted I should have a much better idea about these things than I do now- i have a 6" stack of pages , Varios, and stock sheets.... mostly pages that have been removed from a large number of WW albums Bottom stamp has the 17mm watermark.
