I try to puzzle out the cancels. I could find no information on the KK postmarks (Oval in shape) I have a similar one, on the bottom left of my page mine looks like ZEITUNG in the oval. thestampforum.boards.net/post/28768

What I collect: Worldwide USED up to the 1960's, later years from countries that came into existence after then, like Anguilla, Tuvalu and Transnistria.

K K is for kaiserlich und königlich, which is "Imperial and Royal" in German. ZEITUNG is newspaper in German. The actual town name seems to start with "KARN". It could be Karnten, which is German for Carinthia, but that was a province, not a town.
Nice strip Collin.

Scott Classic would agree with SG on the fine/coarse matter. Scott lists the coarse Type I for 1867, and the coarse Type II for 1873. There are fine-print listings for all three types under the "1874-76" heading. If Michel says something different, I'll include it when I get a chance.
I was guessing the postmark started out "KARL..." but "KARN..." might be possible, too. I haven't yet tried any manipulation of the image. An i.d. attempt feels like a three-hour project, unless I get lucky on a quick hit, so it will have to wait.

It could easily be Karl... That would cover places such as Karloci, Karlovac, Karlovcinv, Karlsbad, Karlsdorf, maybe more. This is a tough one!

Austria's Most Beautiful stamp? The 1933 special issue for the International Philatelic Exhibition in Vienna is a top contender The stamp was sold for 50g plus 50g for charity plus 1.60s for admission Sc B110 - On ordinary Paper Sc B110a on scarcer Granite paper The stamp was designed from a painting by Moritz von Schwind who was himself honored with subsequent stamps There is a "Souvenir Sheet" in deep red that shows up on auctions but by all accounts, it has no postal value.

What I collect: Worldwide Stamps 1840-1930

I have recently been working on mounting 19th-Century stamps from Austria in my album. Oddly, I have some copies which clean up nicely (see the two on the left in this photo) and others, which, no matter how hard I try to remove all residual gum from the backs, they still curl up as shown, even after weeks of drying under a stack of heavy books. Can anyone make a suggestion here?
The two stamps shown on the right still have a sheen of residual gum on the backs. I have soaked them multiple times, and have carefully scraped the backs while they are wet in an attempt to remove all gum. This technique works well for me about 80-90% of the time, but in 10-20% of the cases, I am unable to get the stamps to lie flat in my album. Any advice would be welcome!

1918 Local Post Stamps - OrtspostmarkenItalian stamps with colored overprints prepared during the Austrian occupation. The cities involved were; Ampezzo, Auronzo, Cividale, Codroipo, Gemona, Latisana Longarone, Maniago, Moggio, Palmanova, Pieve di Cadore, S.Daniele S.Georgia , S.Pietro , Splimbergo, Tarcento, Tolmezzo, Udine These were not issued as the Armistice to end WWI was signed at about the same time. They are listed in Austria Specialized Catalogs Auronzo & S. Pietro are the 2 with the highest CV so I am only including these as the same series repeats itself. These are wonderful, Nelson, thank you! I have never seen the likes of them before. I am not in any way knowledgeable at all about this subject, but may I respectfully suggest that stamps as special as these deserve their own thread on the Austria sub-board? I think these are way too unusual and interesting in their own right to be classified under Austria: Stamps: General. Just my two cents.... Absolutely top-shelf stuff around here!!

Though primarily a Canada/USA collector, I do admit to a love of the early Austrian stamps, especially the early 20th century art art nouveaux influenced stamps.
And I have to say, though we haven't seen him here in a while, and he is, I think, sadly missed, Rodney has some amazing pages!

rex .....I would try my Super Safe Stamp Lift Fluid before the bath - I use it to remove tough hinges and it does not affect the gum in the process - never tried it on a stamp stuck on paper - which I will when I find one and let you know René POST trial.......it works too well, some paper is left from envelope as well as gum.... do not like the result....bath better !!!!!!!!!!!!

rex , I've had some success using the technique shown in this video -- it is a slow process and not always successful but worth a try if you are trying to retain some original gum.

Thanks Steve tomiseksj, the ones you show is a very old and good system to remove the hinges, system that I like and wich most of the time works well. Here we have a different situation, the stamp stuck in a fragment of paper, ..moreover I don't understand if it stuck with its own gum .. or added glue..? Thanks René renden,..yes the other solution could be the bath.. if he's attached to his own gum..... but if its glued..

I've used the technique to remove unused stamps that were stuck on album pages and also to open envelope flaps. If it doesn't work, you still can try other methods (e.g., sweat box, stamp lift, soaking).
