Holy macaroni - everything arrived in one day! The GB covers at the top are interesting in that the one with the machins was delivered to the Netherlands in error. Huh? The sender sent pics from the gentleman in the netherlands who received it. We were all baffled by this error. So this package has been traveling since November 17th. Would anyone like to swap for the stamps on those GB covers plus other used GB? If interested message me here.

Here's a very nice cover from Norway that arrived with me today, bringing with it some neatly postmarked Norwegian stamps I'm looking forward to reading up on. ( JeffS, have you seen the rightmost stamp, with the clove-studded Christmas oranges, before?)

Yesterday I got two shipments one with three stamps and the other with one.
This is one cover. Looks like some kind of anonymous hand cancel?
This shipment contained one stamp -- a nice GB SG12 1d Red on blued paper. Very blued in this case:

(Please see previous post for images.) I believe that some time ago GB "posties" were issued with individual small hand cancellers, with wavy lines, due to the fact that so many items were not being cancelled by machinery.

Got home yesterday, to find the postman had delivered the following book: 切手65年:昭和 郵便趣味史 (1989), being the memoirs of a Japanese stamp dealer Tatsuji Nishioka. It was translated into English in 1994 as "65 Years in Stamps: A Philatelic History of the Showa Period". However, with the help of my smartphone, I'm going to tackle this in the original Japanese

It happens to the best of us. And ... I had no idea you were in Japan!
I studied Japanese in earnest for many years in college and graduate school, went to Tokyo for a job search, got a great offer, had it rescinded right after I sold everything in the States and right before the economic collapse in the early '90s (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise for me personally), etc., etc., etc. Made many friends in the expat community there and in the Japanese-American community here in Los Angeles.
While I was there on visits, I met a number of English-speaking expats who had never even attempting to learn a whit of Japanese, despite marrying there, having children there, putting down roots there. You are way, way beyond that!
素晴らしい, mon ami!

Received my first purchase from nbstamper 's HipStamp store -- excellent service and tremendous bargains (I entered a proxy bid of $35 on the 6 cent QV and won (or stole) it for $5.50). If you haven't already taken a look, I recommend that you do so. Canada Scott 55 France Scott B76

I received this envelope containing an ebay purchase from Germany. Having used a Leipzig Priority PP label for postage, the sender added a couple of used DDR stamps and cancelled them further with his personal handstamp!

Two interesting items in today's mail for me! One is a piece of postal stationary issued for the "D" rate change in 1985, cataloged as Scott U607. I am fond of those alphabetical rate change stamps, and I have a small collection of them on FDCs; so I was happy to see this one get some postal use nearly 40 years after being issued. The sender was a cover dealer, of course. I was also excited to find an imperforate single, as promised, on the envelope I got from philatelia (mentioned elsewhere). This is Scott 5006 — Cantaloupes, from the Summer Harvest booklet issued in 2015. Not something you see every day!

Postmarked by “postie’s wavy line handstamp” just like Jack banknoteguy got last week . Uncancelled at post office so hand stamped at final distribution sort. I had to sign for it this time , so often registered mail just gets put through the letter box. A batch of mint GB £100 for £60 for postage rate make-ups ( oh , and an advert for Papa Johns pizza ! Shouldn’t that have an apostrophe?) https://

This must be my lucky week. The day after my last post on this thread, I got another unusual piece of postal stationery carrying a recent purchase. This one, I learned, is Scott U573, part of a Bicentennial series issued in 1976. It's a nice one! I might have to start a new mini-collection...

I just got in a whole bunch of postal stationary last week from an auction buy but I have not had time to go through them. In fact, I got two pretty good size boxes in and I haven't really dived into either one much yet. I didn't even see this section of the forum.
Once I get caught up on some stuff, I'll get one of the boxes unboxed and take some pics. Mike

EDIT: And I'm completely impressed, I uploaded a picture and it actually worked! Hooray for me! The $10 Blue Whale was issued Oct 4, 2010 as the last Wildlife Definitive and since I could not find my copy, I bought 1 yesterday at the P.O.(3 left) It is Unitrade 2405. The first Wildlife Definitives were issued Oct 27, 1998. They are harder to find. All these are no longer available through Canada Post. One clerk is searching for a few definitives needed for my collection. He will be meeting with other clerks outside my town and will call me back- René

Alex, I thought these handstamps were issued to the posties too but my source at Royal Mail tells me that the postman uses a marker pen and the sorting office uses the wavy line handstamp on any mail that has not been postmarked. This would also explain why Jack, who lives in the USA, received this handstamp on his envelope. Daniel

Here's a nice cover that arrived in the mail recently from a stamp seller in Germany. I thought the stamps in the upper right had gotten a pen-scribble cancel, until looking closer and noticing the clever rollercoaster design.

The BIG BOX arrived along with a trade from Ireland. I like the slogan cancel … “Send from the heart” . Cute! The big box is an inexpensive kiloware mix - worldwide for a good price. Yes, I don’t collect worldwide, so 95% will go straight to the Veterans stamp charity, but I get 100% FUN looking through a big box of stuff. WIN/WIN!

My ill gotten gains, that is, the free Spanish stamps from René renden arrived today. Many thanks René. These were on the front and back of the envelope. Really loving the Canadian poster postage stamps.

In post today when I got home from travelling. Not sure why I bought them, threw a low price on line and won. I do find the COGH Barefoots striking. I hope I do not develop yet another area to collect. I am trying to pair down. The Rhodesia stamps are clearly fiscally used, but they can sit in an empty space in my album, since I do not think they were postally used, or if they were, it wasn't often.
