Too bad we couldn’t meet up. I’m only 50 miles from Balmoral and you must have passed my house ( within1/2 mile) on the road from Aberdeen to Balmoral! Mind you I was in Ireland late July till early August so was not at home when you called 🙁

What I collect: GB Unmounted mint & Machin definitives Q.E.II Used commemoratives

I received the following envelope this morning containing some more Machin stamps (which I have posted about in Machins organised chaos). The stamp on the scanned envelope has a very nice hand cancellation & is from the 2004 GB issue, 150th Anniversary of the Crimean War. Gibbons describes this stamp as having a centre phosphor band, this one has the band well over to its right side. No big deal really but if the phosphor & silver was missing it would be catalogued @ £700+ sterling. Always a good idea to check stamps received in/on the mail.

A private cover from a health firm in London with correspondence enclosed promoting their product. The image of King Charles is actually printed on the envelope as is the wavy line cancellation. I have received a few of these in the past with the Q.E. II head printed on them. Worth collecting, I'm not sure!!

Christmas in August! Here is an envelope that arrived in the postbox this past week,
Posted 17 July 2024, Mount Ommaney, QLD Australia and received 23 August 2024, Nadadouro, Portugal. Total travel time - 38 days Whilts the cover itself may not be the most exciting, the contents of several items for the ever-growing collection of the Falkland Islands bird definitive set was like receiving a Christmas gift (including the wait time); the postage stamps used echoed the sentiment…
Have fun and happy collecting!

Departements Conquis bought on Delcampe, one from France, one from Spain + an invitation from the Dr to head off for my winter flu and Covid shots. COINCIDENCE ! one of the Spanish stamps shows the invention of the disposable syringe, just as I am invited for vaccines.

I love the first mail after a long weekend. That's when the best stuff seems to arrive.

I didn't know that Christmas Island stamps could be used from Australia until I read about it. The "Secure your dog for safe delivery" cancel is the second public service message I've seen on this matter. The other being the U.S.

Earlier in the week, I received this colourful mailing for a Canadian dealer with its smattering of low-value postage stamps,
Posted 27 August 2024, Victoria, Canada and received 03 September 2024, Nadadouro, Portugal. Total travel time - 8 days
Whilst the stamps used are indicative of a dealer's surplus or discounted postage, it is the fact that the lot received several hand cancels. This marks a bit of a change, since I cannot recall the last mailing from Canada that had any cancellation on the stamps themselves: machine cancel, hand stamped or even a magick marker obliteration. So much so, that I thought Canada Post had given up the practice and this was a pleasant surprise...
Have fun and happy collecting!
P.S. Who does not like to receive flowers from someone?

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I have had several mailings from the same seller Vince and it appears they do their own cancelling as does Bow City Auctions. One can request hand cancelling still at the post office. It is just a matter if one wants to wait in line to get it. Your flowers are beautiful and do not need watering.

I forgot to check the mail yesterday, and so early this morning I opened my mailbox to this welcomed piece of mail from my local stamp club. I've only been a member for one year, but during that time I've appreciated the camaraderie, the presentations and the regular auctions. We took a break from meeting over the summer and I, for one, am ready to see familiar faces and find a few more stamps for my worldwide collection. I like this mailing and the intentional inversion of the 50 cent. Wouldn't we all like to find a true error like this? If you're in the Edmonton area and just happen to be around on one of our meeting nights, please join us. If not, I hope you can reconnect with a local stamp club. I know many collectors do not have a club nearby and I was wondering whether there is a "virtual" club out there somewhere - one that meets online.

TimG I always consider our group here on TSF as my virtual stamp club. I may finally make it to a Toronto bourse this month. I had been a solitary collector till I joined this forum.

Received today, the Beatrix Potter sheet is 1 of a similar group of 7 sheets issued in 2008 & 2009. I decided not to purchase these at the time, which was a mistake, mainly due to high prices to get them at present. Then again who can foresee the future, especially in the stamp world. Anyway the final 2 sheets have been ordered & should arrive within the next few days. The Royal Mail advertising leaflet shows the next GB stamps being issued.
