I was thinking more about the general topic of injustice worldwide. Here are two examples - one from Israel and one from France - about the court-martial and rehabilitation of Captain Dreyfus.

Thank you for these great additions. As a judge, I find the "Martyrs of Justice" stamp particularly sad. There are several stamps from Italy commemorating judges who were killed by organized crime. On June, 8, 1999, unidentified armed men broke into the Sidon Justice Palace and shot and killed four judges: Hassan Othman, Walid Harmoush, Imad Shehab and Issam Bou Daher.Attorney Salam Salim, stenographer Camille Serhal, two security guards and a member of the public were wounded in the attack but the perpetrators were never found. Although fingers were initially pointed at radical Islamist organizations, investigations did not lead to definitive results. [from the Saida Online magazine, source The Daily Star}x
As for Italy, stamps were indeed issued in 2002 and 2012 marking the death anniversaries of Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Department, respectively.
The second stamp features images of Judges Falcone and Borsellino, together with Judge Rosario Livatino who was assassinated by the Mafia in 1990.

Here is the Italian stamp for judges Falcone and Borsellino. A coincidence, on AlJazeera they had a documentary about these two champions of and martyrs for justice this afternoon, including the efforts of Dr di Matteo to continue their their work.

Hello Friends, I hope everyone in the States had a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day. To my international friends, I hope your weekend was restful. Here is an FDC maxi-card for an interesting stamp out of Israel celebrating their new Supreme Court building back in 1992.

This is a stamp issued last year commemorating the centennial of Lebanon's Supreme Court or Court de Cassation. I understand that no FDCs were done for this issue. I would be interested in obtaining a valid postally-used cover. This stamp will be cross-posted in the Lebanon Post-1942 thread.

Are there any ideas as to where we should put such a topic? Or a separate one on judges and lawyers? Given I could not find a response to wilford 's question, I thought to include this recent addition of a Ottawa duplex (2nd period of use and time mark '7') to the discussion, The cover, with its two 1 cent Queen Victoria "Numeral Issue" pays the 2 cents domestic forward letter rate that effect on 1 January, 1899. backside with Toronto receiving mark, struck one day after mailing and wax seal
So why this thread? I think in most cases, I would have stopped my research of the cover: Cancel - check, Proper payment - check, Receiving and other postal markings, check, but that wax seal and postings of "social postal historian" by other TSF members like rex & jamesw sent me hunting,
The seal with its motto, " Sic Nos Sic Sacra Tuemur" is easily read with a magnifying glass and, translates to "Thus we guard our sacred rights." The same crest, with its arm holding a dagger and motto, can be found on the Balfour Halévy Special Collections of bookplates on the York University website.
Given the mailing, the addressee and the use of the wax seal, the likely sender was in fact the Hon. Hugh MacMahon himself,
Hugh MacMahon (1836-1911) was a lawyer, and a judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario.
For those that have read this far, you can see why I have included this rather unassuming cover in a thread covering Courthouses, Palaces of Justice, or even Judges & Lawyers and encourage others on the hunt for both knowledge and philatelic treasure.
As I build up a collection of the Numeral issue or a study of the Ottawa duplex hammers, let us see what else I find....
Happy collecting!

Oh, what a fabulous post by Stanley64! The legal topic is very wide, many judges have been commemorated over the years. And, in honor of his post, here is a Cinderella stamp from Canada showing the home of the Supreme Court of Ontario.

Indeed wilford, thank you for the kind words and it was my pleasure :-)
In addition to the Cinderella label you shared, of which I found several available from on-line sellers, Canada Post also issued a sheet commemorating Osgoode Hall (Scott n.º 1640) and given the synergy of the wax seal on both my cover and this stamp, I intend to add the latter to the collection...
Thanks again and happy collecting!

Nice one wilford and I am glad to have been part of the process ;-) As for me and from your own posting of the Osgoode Hall label, I was able to find and purchase a matched-set of plate blocks feature the same building at a reasonable price, Law Society of Upper Canada Bicentennial, Osgoode Hall 45 cent Plate Block Set (Scott n.º 1640) with its striking Palladian architecture.
Happy collecting!

Just a note on Osgoode Hall. Many many years ago, I worked as a sketch artist for a local TV station, and sat all day in courts drawing bad guys. Pretty cool job! Spent many an hour sitting in Osgoode Hall. If you ever get to Toronto, I highly recommend visiting the Hall, now the home of the Upper Canada Law Society, as well as the Ontario Court of Appeals and the Ontario Superior Court. It is an incredibly beautiful building, and also has a wonderful collection of paintings and sculpture. And a restaurant! I didn't know that part. Also in the background of wilford's label, is the spire of Toronto's Old City Hall, which also houses court rooms, (for the time being, there's discussion of closing it). Visit there as well. Built in the late 1880s, it too is a stunning piece of architecture, and history!
Also a note on the gates shown on wilford's FDC. Those are called 'cow gates'. They were erected in 1867, and it's unclear if they were actually installed to prevent cows from local farms from wandering onto the property (it was the 1860s, after all) or to protect the building from invasion. At the time Canada was under threat from the Fenian uprisings and there was concern about the safety from possible invading forces. The oddly shaped gates were thought to slow the 'rioters' and keep them at bay. Who knows? Makes for a good story.

And another stamp I had meant to add to this thread, this Cameroon issue from 1983, part of a series promoting women in the workforce, showing a woman lawyer being sworn in. She is wearing the traditional black robe with white bib (for lack of a better word?) that French lawyers (and lawyers in countries where the judicial system has been inherited from the French one such as former colony Cameroon) must wear when they appear in court.

Received my set of plate blocks of the Law Society of Upper Canada Bicentennial referenced earlier in the thread,
Osgoode Hall (1997) 45¢ Scott n.º 1640
Note the nick in outer ring of wax impression found in position 16 in a sheet of 20 (5 x 4) and the date of issue neatly tucked away in one of the building's arches...
Happy collecting!

I thought we would go the Caribbean, and see another courthouse stamp from Antigua. Sorry for the small size, best illustration I could get.

Hello stamp friends, I hope everyone is doing well. It is warm here in Southern California. Anyway, I have been working on my legal stamps lately, trying to bring a semblance of order to them. I didn't do too badly, only bought two of the same thing two or three times. Today, a classic engraved stamp from Jamaica, showing the Falmouth courthouse.
