I have a topical collection involving legal stamps. As a judge, a good part of that collection involves stamps of courthouses, also called Palaces of Justice, depending on the country. I would be interested in seeing examples from others. Here are a couple from France, to give you an idea of what I mean.

Excellent idea for a thread. Here's another example, the French Cour de Cassation building (roughly equivalent to the US Supreme Court):

I've posted this one in the Cartophilately thread before, about the International Court of Justice validating Mauritius' claim to the Chagos Archipelago, and which shows the ICJ building in The Hague:
Zooming in on the ICJ stamp, and another Dutch issue showing the same building:
Or this issue from Cameroon on the ICJ's 25 th anniversary:

In 2007, we had the most recent joint issue between France and its overseas territories, celebrating the 200 th anniversary of the French "Cour des Comptes" (Accounts Court), an independent court that checks that government funds are not spent wastefully and following the rules. As many other parts of the French judicial system, you can date its beginnings to the Napoleonic era. Here are the eight issues from that set, including two from France itself, one as a self-adhesive, and the other gummed. The overseas territories are Mayotte, SPM, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, and the TAAF.

Stretching the definition of courthouse to "a place where justice is done", the most famous one which all French schoolchildren learn about is the oak tree under which St-Louis (King Louis IX) administered justice, as shown here:

Many thanks everyone. I learned a few things, and will be looking for a few of these stamps. I will continue to post my findings, as well as starting threads on other legal topics. Here is an FDC from Turkey celebrating their Supreme Court.

Lebanon 14th June 2002 Martyrs of Justice MS shows "Justice Palace" in background In 1999, four judges were assassinated inside the South Lebanon Criminal Court, at the old Justice Palace in Sidon. One of the accused received the death penalty, whilst the others were similarly convicted in absentia, having escaped into a Palestinian refugee camp.

Thank you for these great additions. As a judge, I find the "Martyrs of Justice" stamp particularly sad. There are several stamps from Italy commemorating judges who were killed by organized crime.

I could not find any courthouses on my Scandinavian stamps, but at least there is this issue from Denmark in 1949 celebrating centenary of the constitution. It is based on a painting by Constantin Hansen called "The constitutional National Assembly".

This is the Cracow courthouse in Poland. The stamp is from the German occupation. I have often thought of it as rather ironic. Stamps like this I call The Philately of Injustice. Another example is the martyred Lebanese judges stamp shown above by another stamp friend. IF you want to nominate a stamp for this topic please do so, and tell me why, I don't always know the history. Also let me know if you think that topic is worth a separate thread.

Are there any ideas as to where we should put such a topic? Or a separate one on judges and lawyers?
