With the recent acquisition of several sheets fragments, blocks and strips of the 1914 ½ c. from Moçambique, it was an opportunity to put on my 'plating' hat,
1914 Moçambique - ½ c. preto, perf. 15 x 14 Acetinado Espesso
From the various blocks in the lot, this particular fragment got my eye with several clichés or plate faults that were unfamiliar,
Having identified the clichés themselves, the next question was, "what is the position of the block within the larger sheet of 200 hundred stamps?"
To help with the plating effort, determining the position of the other blocks would be useful,
The identifying and plating of the different clichés continues,
the larger blocks fill out the overall sheet, but still no obvious location can be determined for the block of 12 in question,
even the smaller strips needed to be examined for a potential match,
The strip above, with its selvedge still attached, proved a major find with its distinct perforations given the missing pin as it is visible in the original block of 12 and places the sheets fragment to the far right of the overall sheet.
Alas though, the sheet with its 3 non-catalogued clichés and no location recorded from cliché "L", there remains three options for the block:
starting position nº 135 starting position nº 155 starting position nº 175
So close and the 'philatelic' puzzle remains incomplete...
Have fun and happy collecting!
