Nice one Jeff. I saw that one on SCF and mentioned there how much I like it. Especially since the post mark is my birthday! (98 years shy, of course). Here's another recent buy, I'd actually forgot about. Picked these up at my stamp club a week or two ago. They were on the 'auction table', and no one had made an offer, so I picked this lot up for $2. Early Yugoslavia/Croatia-Slavonia, overprinted stamps of Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina. I like the designs, especially of the Bosnian stamps.

I won this cover in an ebay auction last week and it arrived in today's mail. The stamp had been identified by the seller as Scott 87 with E grill (2c black Jackson; 1868); it is actually a Scott 93 with F grill. While I had hoped the stamp would prove to be as the seller had described, I was prepared for it to be a 2c F grill. The cover meausres 51mm (H) x 132 (L) and is trimmed at right; it has a N.Y. City, D CDS and the stamp paid the local or drop letter rate (which included city delivery from post offices that employed carriers). A short biography on the addresses, Samuel P. Warren, follows the cover image.

Nice grab Steve! As long as you didn't pay the #87 E grill price ($200.+) you should be OK. Beautiful Black-Jack!!

This cover arrived in today's mail; won in an ebay auction several days ago. The 3c green Washington was issued 1870. I haven't yet tried to determine if it The stamp on this cover has the lower value H grill (Scott 136) or an I grill (Scott 136A). A brief biography on the addressee follows the cover.

Scott #358, Mint, hinged, perf 12. Issued in 1909. One of the "China Clay" issues. Bluish grey looking paper because of the 35% wool rag to wood pulp ratio content. The Bureau of Engraving & Printing experimented with this paper to try to curtail paper shrinkage which cause a lot of irregular and off center perforations and caused a lot of waste as a result. I also am picking up the 13¢ blue-green [#365] soon. I worked out a deal with a vendor for it. (I also have a used #358 too.)Also, may I please have the Scott specialized catalog information for this please? My catalog just lists the number and directs me to see the specialized catalog (which I don't own). Thank you very much!

Ooooo! Nice Jeff. I love those old despatches. Got to get me some! Get out your checkbook! It's sort of difficult to find these priced in my pitiful price range so hopefully you will make out better than I have. I'd LOVE to see them if you do! I just adore the penny post and private mail stamps on cover! They're so small though. That cover measures 4" X 2½" and the stamp is of course even smaller measuring in at 21/32" X ½" !! Tiny by comparison to normal stamps of the era!

I always loved Paddington Bear! My Daughter would love the Peppa pig, Bob the Builder & Thomas the train stamps! Those are neat and sort of resemble a recent issue here in the states. Here I'll post an image of mine from the USA. - we have peppa pig (not shown), Wilbur {from Charlott's Web} and another named Olivia as well...lol

I never planned to collect seals, poster stamps or Cinderellas, but I happened on a large collection at the right price. So, I’m embarking on a new venture. There are several thousand pieces, in all. Here, in six scans, is a sample. I think the printers’ proofs and waste are particularly interesting. 1. Printers Proofs, TB Seal 1936, USA 2. Red Cross, 1909, pair 3. Printers Proofs, TB Seal 1939, USA 4. American Dental Association Seals, 1929-40 5. Printers’ Proofs, TB Seal, 1931, USA 6. Peru, Anti-TB Seal, 1934 7. Romania, Anti-TB Seal, Date? (added later: it's 1934; thanks Rod!) 8. China, Anti-TB Seal, 1938 9. Christmas Seals, 1913, variations, including one from Chicago Local #412 with union bug 10. Printers Proofs, TB Seal 1933, USA 1. Imperf sheet of 1933 Christmas Seal 2. Christmas Seal, International Workers’ Order, 1938 3. Essay, 1934, USA 4. Christmas Seal, Kensington Dispensary, Philadelphia, PA 1907-08 5. Card commemorating the 20th anniversary of the first Red Cross Christmas seal, with 1904 Denmark seal 6. Christmas Seal folder, 1918 1. Imperf block, Christmas Seal, 1939, signed by designer Felix Martini 2. Syria, Anti-TB Seal, 1924 3. Spanish Relief, 1937?, USA 4. Russia, Anti-TB seal, date? 5. Cuba, Anit-TB Seal, 1928 6. Anti-TB Seals, Switzerland, 1927 (Similar to Pro Juventute stamps of that era, but larger) 7. Czech Support Seal, AMBWCO, 1902, USA 8. Essay, 1938, USA 9. Essay, 1933, USA 10. Christmas Seals, Butler County (PA) TB Association, 1930-32 11. Printers’ waste, 1927 Posters promoting 1937-1939 Belgian semipostals, 3 7/8 by 5 ins. Four corner blocks, proof sheet. American Lung Association, 1938
Emily Perkins Bissell, first Red Cross Christmas seals (1907) , and USA commemorative.

Wow! That is a classy first buy. Hehehehe....It's now down the slippery slope for you, my man. Cinderellas, they get you in the end.
Your Romania Tuberculosis example belongs here: 1934 - 47 Perf A, B, C, D Picture 18x24 mm Coarse print - different papers
1L black 1L black imperforated 2L green 2L green imperforated 5L orange 20L blue
Why is it, when I post text, I get spaced lines? then I have to edit.

Won this Paraguay B.O.B. lot last weekend. I tappears to have all the Zeppelins that I needed and then some. There is one of the Zepp stamps I don't see in the scan but think it is probably there. The auctioneer obviously did not have anything invested in this lot. Failing to break it up in a viewable scan with higher res did no favor for the seller. That's the way I like to get them but sure would be unhappy if it were a lot of mine being sold. It is also a lesson to collectors to make neat pages where the stamps are presented nicely. With proper presentation the lot should have gone for more than what I paid. I'd imagine the person who collected it had passed and his/her heirs were selling it off. There are also a couple officials that cat for near $100 each that help to sweeten the pot, most people would have overlooked them.

At my club meeting last night, picked up a pile of Canadian revenues. Was picking through and finally just said, "Oh, *!*@)^$, I'll take 'em all." Here are a couple of 1915 war tax (my current craze, as y'all know) with some interesting cancels. Any ideas on what they are? Nothing like this listed in Van Dam.

As a WW classic collector, I frequently find myself dismantling (ravaging, raiding, pillaging, plundering, pilfering, you choose which term fits best) an album that someone had for many years worked hard to fill and arrange in a pleasing manner. Sometimes this willful desecration makes me feel ashamed, sometimes not. But, until now, I've been tough enough to harvest the stamps I want from the albums that cross my desk. The page shown below stopped me, though. It's from a 1940s Lilliputian album, and I could not do it damage. I aspire to be the kind of collector who made this page, but doubt I'll ever achieve that goal.
