Delandre Vignettes

Rod: I will admit, I had never heard of these before. So I googled a little bit, and found these sites, among others:

One interesting note from the Wikipedia entry:

Looking at some of the ones from the French site, some appear signed and some do not.   Is there an easy way to tell if one has a Delandre or not, or does it require checking against a reference catalog?

Rod: Notwithstanding your characteristic modesty, I'm always impressed with both the breadth and the depth of your knowledge.

(And I'm anticipating tapping into it when I start working on the boxes and boxes of "What is this?" that I have stacked up in storage. )

Rod: Indeed. It is sad to see such knowledge lost. I suppose we can all take some solace in at least trying to identify what we can, and post our knowledge and illustrations as possible.

That's why I appreciate those who have been concerned about trying to preserve the posts on this board and on others. (On the old eBay stamp board, we had an amazing array of specialists of various countries and collecting areas who contributed an amazing compendium of philatelic knowledge (there were not that many other stamp board alternatives around at the time), but I'm afraid it's all lost in the digital ether.)

Nonetheless, your energy and enthusiasm is infectious!

There are a series of handbooks about the various Delandre issues. I think there are 7 volumes now. Some of them are available from Charles Kiddle at: www.posterstamps.org.uk/index.php
And some are available from the Cinderella Stamp Club at:

There were also albums published by Delandre for his creations.

About the same price the Swiss Army series.
Delandres are  generally in good condition, they rarely get traded on the market,
and spend their time under Hagner protection.

I find Cinderellas on an average sell in Aust for $1-$2 each,
go to a stamp bourse, and see the Cinderella tables and they are $5 each

Some of those are spectacular. Without paying much attention to them over the years, I'd assumed that one artist was responsible for them; knowing that many hands made light work makes a lot more sense, when you see them together like this. Lots of different styles and even skill levels in evidence here.

Yes, it was a "momentary consideration" - it would make a nice collection with a bio of the subjects
Grosvenor sold a full set of 144 with the special album along with the 1917 second set of of 96 plus extras for £350
I do have all the 144 in my database (pictures only, no stamps) - maybe show them some time??
