Rod: I will admit, I had never heard of these before. So I googled a little bit, and found these sites, among others: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delandrevignettesdelandre.free.fr/One interesting note from the Wikipedia entry: Oops. Looking at some of the ones from the French site, some appear signed and some do not. Is there an easy way to tell if one has a Delandre or not, or does it require checking against a reference catalog? Thanks again for opening up another chapter for me in "Things I didn't even know I didn't know." (It's a big multi-volume set!) -- Dave

Yes Dave, we conspire to relieve you of your cash in pocket, another collecting opportunity. Know very little about them, they cross my desk, so I scan them They have caused some personal enquiry, they remind me very much of Church stamps, and I am wondering, after all these years, if perhaps, Church started me on collecting stamps? I do recall pages I took home from Sunday school, and if you were a good boy, the preceding week you got a stamp to glue in a special spot. Even then they seduced you into filling spaces in stamp squares.

Rod: Notwithstanding your characteristic modesty, I'm always impressed with both the breadth and the depth of your knowledge. (And I'm anticipating tapping into it when I start working on the boxes and boxes of "What is this?" that I have stacked up in storage. ) (I also have some boxes of "What was I thinking?". ) -- Dave

Dave, I don't know much of anything, really. I am like the kid in the "pass the package" line, when the music stops, you get to tear off a skin of paper.
I just pass on what I have read, that's all.
A fellow collector wrote me yesterday, and bears true. I was asking if a Romanian Catalogue would be translated...
"Hi Rod, I think in the near future an edition in english language it's impossible. All great philatelists who dedicated their lives to this monumental philatelic studies are gone and the medium period for such a work in Romania took 20-25 years / catalogue. Sad, but true...

Rod: Indeed. It is sad to see such knowledge lost. I suppose we can all take some solace in at least trying to identify what we can, and post our knowledge and illustrations as possible.
That's why I appreciate those who have been concerned about trying to preserve the posts on this board and on others. (On the old eBay stamp board, we had an amazing array of specialists of various countries and collecting areas who contributed an amazing compendium of philatelic knowledge (there were not that many other stamp board alternatives around at the time), but I'm afraid it's all lost in the digital ether.)
Nonetheless, your energy and enthusiasm is infectious!

Thanks Michael, can we then assume £1-2 each CV? About the same price the Swiss Army series. Delandres are generally in good condition, they rarely get traded on the market, and spend their time under Hagner protection.
I find Cinderellas on an average sell in Aust for $1-$2 each, go to a stamp bourse, and see the Cinderella tables and they are $5 each

I recall one member posting oooodlies of scans for Ajman, It was just too much for me, (Image overload) Your scans add to a fabulous database of what is available for students of Delandres.

Some of those are spectacular. Without paying much attention to them over the years, I'd assumed that one artist was responsible for them; knowing that many hands made light work makes a lot more sense, when you see them together like this. Lots of different styles and even skill levels in evidence here.

More great work, thanks for sharing, f, Have you seen the British "Lord Roberts" set? These would be a nice adjunct to your Delandres, if you need further challenges

Yes, it was a "momentary consideration" - it would make a nice collection with a bio of the subjects Grosvenor sold a full set of 144 with the special album along with the 1917 second set of of 96 plus extras for £350 I do have all the 144 in my database (pictures only, no stamps) - maybe show them some time??
