The Centenary Miniature Panes from my late dad's collection wth his dealings with KASIMIR BILESKI
Kasimir Bileski (September 14, 1908 - January 19, 2005) was a Canadian philatelist and stamp dealer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is best known for his discovery and promotion of the famous "Seaway Inverted" stamps of 1959. My late dad did buy a Mint copy of the Seaway Inverted (Unitrade 387a).
Bileski was also involved in the holding of many of Canada's rare stamps, and wrote widely on philatelic issues.
In his collection figures 1 Miniature Pane ( of 25 - Unitrade 457b), Feb 8, 1967 and 2 Miniature Panes of 20 Unitrade 458b, same date) - Bileski was into "used" panes and commented that they were more rare "postmarked" than Mint
Nice souvenir from the 1967-73 Centennial - low values - from my late dad's collection

One of my favorite multiples, the 2 cent carmine rose, perf. 11 International Philatelic Exhibition Issue Souvenir Sheet (Scott 630) issued October 18, 1926. Printed from plates of 100 subjects in 4 panes of 25 each, separated by 1" wide gutters with central guide lines. Top panes have a 1/2" bottom margin and 1" top margin; the wide margin corner on top panes will have a small diagonal notch. The stamp design is that of the Battle of White Plaines issue (Scott 629) depicting Alexander Hamilton's Battery.

Steve, I'm interested in the terminology you gave for the above item. Is it a Souvenir sheet or a pane ? You described it as being a pane. It's a beautiful piece.

Cape of Good Hope Multiples of the Triangular Issues, 1853-1864OK, call me a bandwagon poster, but when I have the time, I can't resist adding a tidbit to a trending topic on the Forum. As the Cape Triangles are all over 150 years old now, single copies in very fine condition or better are not that easy to come by, and multiples pose an even greater challenge. To the best of my knowledge, there are no surviving full sheets of any Cape Triangle, but there are some specialists, such as Richard Debney, who are pursuing the plating of Cape Triangles. As one might imagine, finding multiples can really assist with that investigation. Multiples of Cape Triangles are, therefore, highly prized by most collectors, but I do not have any in my collection yet. I have been debating whether to go after some or not, as the prices jump substantially compared to single stamps. I am still undecided as to what I will do, but in the meantime, I have found some interesting examples from others' collections, which have been posted elsewhere online. Here is a particularly nice example: COGH 4-Pence Blue, multiple of 3. Appears to be a Perkins Bacon printing, so likely SG2, SG4, or SG6. This margin multiple with selvedge shows the "deckle" edge of the paper and the marginal watermark with the word POSTAGE. Deckle refers to the tapered, somewhat irregular edge of the paper that was used at the time, as opposed to precisely cut edges that were used later. These rough edges led to some variation in the placement of the sheets in the printing press, which explains why the location of the anchor watermark on a Cape Triangle can be quite inconsistent from sheet to sheet. Schematic of the COGH anchor watermark pattern with marginal markings as they would appear looking through the sheet from the front. Source: Kalkhoven, Vincent. “CGH: Watermarks of the Triangular issues”. Cape & Natal Philatelic Journal, Vol. 15, No. 2 (58), 2011.

In popular usage the term sheet is incorrectly used to refer to a pane of sheet stamps. In this case, the printed sheet was cut into four panes of 25 subjects each. It should technically be referred to as a " souvenir pane;" however, Scott refers to the piece as souvenir sheet and that is why I described it as such. Even the definition of a souvenir sheet in the United States Stamp Society's Glossary of Terms for the Collector of U.S. Stamps adds to the confusion. It defines a souvenir sheet as being: In that definition there is a link to the definition of a sheet as being:

Modern All were used on mailings from Great Britain by a philatelic group. The cancellations are sometimes over inked or applied with lots of pressure.

Nothing much is black and white in Philately ! Terminology differs around the world just to add to the confusion. When I was collecting everything way back when, I often searched for this 'White Plains' Souvenir sheet. It is very attractive. But not being a connoisseur of USA stamps, I did not know that it was a 'pane' until today !! Great stuff !

One of my favourite Revenue Blocks. 1930's Palestine Court Fee Revenue block of 8 in Black. Marked are some of the varieties that can be found on these issues. Not marked is the shift of the '50' on the bottom left stamp and a similar shift in the other direction for the Arabic value on the top left stamp !! All good fun.

A Block of 24 from a pane of 60 Labels designed by TS Harrison for a competition run by the Junior Philatelic Society to find an alternative to the hated Downey Head definitive. Produced at the 1912 International Stamp Exhibition held at the RHS in London by Waterlow Bros. & Layton by the Printex Method. Many colours exist, blocks are hard to come by for most of them. (except various shades of blue).
