Contribution from Japan; Chrysanthemum (Kiku) 1 Sen, Block of 4x3 + 4x2 with a single stamp on a postal savings sheet, date/year unidentified due to unclear cancel but likely to be from Meiji 33 (1900) to Meiji 35 (1902). (FYI most of the big blocks of Chrysanthemum (Kiku) stamps, especially that of low face valued stamps, are likely to be from these postal saving sheets) - Hironobu

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I see from a note in my album that this block of 6 3 shilling St. Lucia Sc. 123 was first issued on February 8,1946. What makes this item interesting is that this registered cancel is dated 4 FE 46. Scott does not give the exact issue date so possibly a member has access to information to confirm the official first day. NOTE: Gibbons listed the date of issue as Feb. 4/46. Colnect shows it as Feb. 8/46 which is where I probably got my note information.

hdm1950 Hello...Gibbons lists date of issue as 4 2 46. Anglobob anglobob I was just looking on Colnect and I see they have it listed as Feb. 8, 1946. That is probably where I got the misinformation. I will update the note in my album. I do suspect this was probably a philatelic issue but still an interesting item to have.

I have moved a post of mine and those of hdm1950 and philatelia to a new thread : thestampforum.boards.net/thread/9777/I don't want to spoil what is an excellent thread for blocks and multiples. So to continue.........here is an image of some blocks being extracted from a sheet ! I worked hard to fill a few overseas orders during the Festival of Stamps in London, 2010. The Press sheets of the Accession Miniature sheet (SG#MS3065) was printed Tete-Beche, the first time this had occurred. So what a novel block or strip to have in your collection !! Now we have another Accession.

I was uncertain whether this should go into this thread or into the “in Today’s Mail” but as it came today with an auction catalogue from Sweden, I’ll show it here . Blocks are rare in Sweden as they are more accustomed to coil strips which is what we have here , https://

Japan, definitive, 1967 series, 3 Yen (JSCA #418b), block of 10 (5x2) from upper-left corner of sheet. Japanese modern definitive specialist - especially those targeting the 50s and 60s issues - collect full sheets and/or 10 (5x2) blocks from the four corners to distinguish the perforation, color marks, imprints and even staple holes as some of the stamps have been continuously printed over a decent years and thus may have wide varieties in printing and perforation. This particular block could be described as "Rotary gravure printing, 250 lines, harrow perforation, penetrating at lower margin, corner mark up, definitive B1" - Hironobu

Other blocks of 10 (5x2) of Japan definitive, 1967 Series, 3 Yen (JSCA #418b). This one is "Rotary gravure printing, 250 lines, Continuous rotary perforation, corner mark up, definitive B2, with staple holes". And this one - my favorite block - is "Rotary gravure printing, 230 lines, upper continuous comb perforation, row 1, corner mark top, provisional A2 pale, with staple holes". You can see a subtle misalignment of perforation holes just above the red-orange arrow, which suggests this perforation. You also can notice the different shade of green compared to the upper block. - Hironobu
