"CommAIRdore" strikes me as a self-appointed title. Very little on the internet about Sabor. Good luck in your quest.

JeffS , Given the length of the post office name and the Maine zip code that appears to be 04074, I believe the postmark was applied at the Southern Maine Carrier Unit Post Office.

drmellow , I have to say I find these quoted catalogue values astonishing! Which catalogue lists them ? ,,, What I find astonishing is that the previous owner had shown the catalog value for an unused cut square for Scott U9; the used CV was $4 in 2021 and that is for a VF copy. The CV shown for a used U17 is correct (in 2021). Of course, this assumes the identification is correct. Again, the CV shown for Scott U34 is that for an unused, VF cut square -- used is $5 (in 2021). As I said previously, identification of the die can be challenging (as can that of the paper color).

September 4This 13 cent, yellow green, perf. 11x10½ stamp with the likeness of Benjamin Harrison (Scott 694; Sep 4, 1931), the 23rd U.S. President, has the strike of a circular Money Order Business handstamp with this date (year uncertain) used as a killer.

drmellow, determining the correct die on some of those cut squares can be a real challenge (at least for me).

tanker , Per your request, I won't venture a guess as to whether this is a true color print error or a color changeling. My understanding is that the Prexie sheet stamps were printed from plates of 400 subjects, in panes of 100, on a Stickney press in which paper was fed in a continuous roll. One of the United States Stamp Society's committees focuses on stamps and postal history of the Prexie era. I recommend you contact the Chair of that committee (Jeffrey Shapiro, dirtyoldcovers AT aol DOT com) to see if the Prexie Era Committee is able to provide an answer to your question.

JeffS , I received this "bodybag" last week. The reverse includes a pre-printed apology from "YOUR POSTMASTER" for the inadvertent damage incurred in handling the enclosed document. Unlike your example, where damage existed, the enclosed content was in pristine, pre-mailing condition -- there was not a mark (or postmark) on it. The enclosed postal card was an advertisement for stamp approvals. My assumption is that the seller bought my address from APS and had a connection with someone in his post office that allowed the use of the bodybag. The enclosed postal card had the correct postage applied for a card sent by first-class mail (51¢) so the only loss to the USPS was the cost of the envelope which is likely far less than that of the Priority and Express mailers that he probably uses as stiffeners for his approval mailings.

Please identify your favorite article from among the four listed from Volume 7 of the Newsletter.
You can do so by checking the box to the left of the article title in the poll.
The article receiving the most votes will be submitted to the American Philatelic Society as our Chapter's 2023 Article of Distinction.
[NOTE: For those of you who only view the Forum using the Recent Post function, you will need to click on the thread title to be taken to the poll.]

Only a few more days remain before each of the issue polls closes and the articles receiving the most votes from each issue will compete for selection as the Forum's 2023 APS Article of Distinction. Thus far, participation in each of the polls located here has been less than desireable for an APS Chapter with 700+ members, over 150 of which have signed in to the Forum during August. The numbers tell the story: V7.1 - 30 votes; V7.2 - 24 votes; V7.3 - 29 votes; and, V7.4 - 33 votes. The polls will lock at Midnight, New York time, on August 31st. A final poll will then be posted to select the article that will be submitted to APS as our Chapter's 2023 selection. If you haven't already done so, please take some time to review each of the Volume 7 issues and then identify your favorite article in each of the polls. Even if you are a recent join, we'd like you to participate in each poll. The Volume 7 issues may be found by clicking on each of these: V7.1, V7.2, V7.3, and V7.4.

August 26This Pitcairn Islands 20 cent, multicolored, perf. 13½ stamp depicting the visit of the HMS Blossom in 1825 (Scott 301; Aug 14, 1988) was postmarked on this date by the Pitcairn Islands Post Office in 1993. If any of our full members (14/50+) wants a copy of this stamp and postmark, send me a PM (include your mailing address if you're not in the address group). Several copies with various cancellation dates were included in the material provided by firstfrog2013 .

I haven't posted on this thread lately as we've been receiving enough material to produce a respectable Newsletter each quarter. It hasn't been as much as we'd like, or from a greater number of members, but we've made do. Today I'm writing to both remind of the submission deadline for our October-December issue and to announce the appointment of Chris Dorn ( Beryllium Guy ) as the Newsletter's Editor. Chris did an exceptional job in producing the current issue (V7.4) and he has graciously accepted my appeal to assume the role as Editor of The Stamp Forum Newsletter. Article preparation guidance is provided in the first post in this thread and the submission deadline and process published in the last newsletter follow: Chris will be updating his preferences for format and submission in the near future. Please help him out by writing for the Forum's Newsletter!

Continuing the Bantam halfpenny rose discussion from earlier in this thread, the Scott Classic Specialized catalog (mine is a 2015 copy) states: My copy appears to be from Plate 8. I wonder about the postmark; specifically the month/day.

Thank you to both vikingeck and daniel for helping me with this identification. As to my forgeting that I had seen these items before in Londonbus1 's related post back in 2017, I can only offer that I'm old and forgetfullness comes with the territory. Also, if only that great forum had an image search function I might have been able to answer my own question. However, I believe that my quest and the information provided by Alex's ebay image have allowed me to clear up LB1's "confusion" regarding the label with the kiss on the cheek. As I now understand, KABE's double album allows for collecting both mint and used so the "kiss" is likely intended to represent a "cancellation." Without objection, I'd like to merge all the posts from this thread into LB1's 2017 thread.

As the thread's subject suggests, my "go to" source for stamp/cinderella identification has let me down on these items. The image of who I assume to be Holy Roman Emporer Maximilian I (1459-1519) on these stamps appears to have derived from the Albrecht Dürer portrait. Any background that can be provided will be appreciated.

Yesterday, I sorted hrough mountains of paper records to see what I could recycle. Afterward I felt the need for some mindless activity so I grabbed two handfuls of U.S. material from one of the firstfrog2013 boxes, soaked the stamps to remove paper, residual gum and hinges, then transferred them to a drying book. Expect one or more giveaways in the near future.

philatelia, check your spam folder as Joe LoPreiato's email address has changed. He is the only source that I've been able to find. I'll send the new address to you in a PM. I can't order my stamp until I get a permit number and I've not even looked into black inks at this point. I think Olathe Poste used to make the stamps but every link to that site takes me to a blank page with Asian characters in the URL line. As for using a custom design, the latest DMM says a mailer must use one of the two Format A in exhibit 3.4.9. I imagine you could get away with a custom design, given the dearth of knowledge about MPPs within the USPS' frontline staff.

Finding time to work on my collection has remained elusive. For example, as I was looking through one of my "to do (someday)" piles the other day I came across an envelope with the proceeds of a Luxembourg giveaway hosted by departed member brightonpete back in June 2019. I felt the least I could do in Pete's memory was to identify all of the stamps so they could (eventually) be scanned, recorded and then mounted or filed. Today, I submitted my application to receive a Mailer's Postmark Permit. After rejecting the repeated assertions of 2 clerks who kept stating that they no longer handled bulk mail at that office, regardless of my having informed them that the permit was for the postmarking and cancellation of first class mail, I was finally told to stand in line to await a superviser (I was third in that line). As I approached the superviser, he asked what he could do for me. Much to my surprise, after telling him I was there to submit my application to receive an MPP, he actually knew what it was. Unfortunately, he said that the branch manager was the one who dealt with it and she was off today. After presenting him with the application and showing the required two forms of identification, so he could verify the information included on the application, I left both the application and copy of the applicable portion of the Domestic Mail Manual (Section 604.3 Precanceled Stamps) so he could pass them on to the manager. With luck, she will also be familiar with the MPP and its intended purpose and I'll hear back from her sometime next week.
