A couple of Arrivals this week. A nice one from Singapore. The other is from within Canada but with a « private » postal cancellation. I have never seen this on a Canadian letter. The things we may not know about our own country. Any one else seen this in Canada?

I think the Europa stamps have upped their game. The earlier Europa stamps were not anything special to look at. Now the more modern Europa stamps are colorful and show some interesting topics. I also notice that some countries put out a Europa stamp, but they are not part of a central theme. Not sure why that is but I have noticed this in my Italian and Vatican collections. Nick I have found the more recent issues are a delight to look at. Leads me to much online searching about the subject and why it is important to that country. David

Ok, here is a full page scan with 4 boxes. Upper left is PS Serif Caption. Upper right is PS Serif. Lower left is PT Sans Caption. Lower right is PT Sans.
You need to look at it at a smaller size to see what's best.
I prefer the two on the left. Not a question liking the font…just it just bot bigger and they’re fore easier to read. I would use this in my own pages because of the clarity of the text to my eyes. Ability to see without eye strain is my priority. David

I continue with my Edward VII upgrading. The most recent was finally adding a mint never hinged .10 Unitrade 93. My hinged copy had some soiling on the top edge that always bothered me. Once I have the 2 together I am thinking that the new arrival could actually be the dull lilac 93i shade (on the left in the photo) and the one I had being the brown lilac 93 shade. Rather than selling the hinged copy I will keep it now. This seems to happen to me a lot. To my eyes I see two different shades. I do not know what a dull lilac and brown lilac are supposed to look like. So I will now have to look at mine ans see if I can find any colour difference. David.

I tend to try the best cantered I can witching in a price range. My ideal is to have all stamps I can afford for a country. Usually I end up with the lesser quality stamp to meet that need. I collect for pleasure and not for adding value to my collection.

A new arrival today is this handsome lightly hinged horizontal pair imperf vertically one cent blacks (Unitrade 8c). About a week ago dgdecker posted an example of this item and I felt the need to sit on my hands and say nothing because the auction I was bidding on was still open. Sorry about that Dave. I would say that this pair is a little nicer than the pair you were looking at. The price I paid was just a bit higher than the eBay pair you were considering. Funny you mention that. I was thinking you might be interested in this too so I did not bid. Also it was not in my budget. Now that I know it exists, I will start planning on a purchase. Maybe I should ask for it as my Christmas present this year. i am glad you found a better pair. I wonder if the one I saw was sold. I will verify the seller’s store. Enjoy the new addition. David

This is the only site I have ever found that offers Machin pages. I have only used the starter pages that were free at the time. I found it to be very comphensive for my needs.

This major difference in the post mark name isn't something I was aware of, until now, and possibly the same might be the case with other 'limeys' on the Europe side of the pond - just to clarify, the AIR envelope is superimposed on top of the EDMONTON cover for reasons of wanting details of the different post marks to be seen as close as possible. The green 1 Cent looks to be SG 197 - this is George V in the full 'Admiral' uniform series from the definitive issues 1911 to 1922 - I say 'looks' as Gibbons appear to recognize four shade vars. - their Nos. 196 - 199 - though I think this lacks any yellow, so will go with 197 pro tem. but stand to be corrected. The date post mark here is September 1919, and if IIRC it looks like they printed three billion two hundred and eighteen million in total!! The AIR cover dated August 1931 again shows George V, though not in Admiral dress - anyone know what uniform he's wearing? This is the 1 Cent orange SG 275 from the definitive series 1928 to 1929. But, the reason for posting is that have to admit I had no idea that ALTA was the standard abbreviation for ALBERTA - until now, and according to the internet the following may well be the explanation ............ "The abbreviation "Alta." for Alberta is a historical reference to the Latin word "altus" meaning "high" or "deep", which was used by early cartographers to describe the region. It's not necessarily intended to save letters, but rather to have a consistent naming convention with other provinces and territories that also have Latin-based abbreviations, such as "B.C." for British Columbia and "Que." for Quebec." "Apparently it's a common Canadianism of dropping letters and sounds from pronunciation of words, especially in place names For example, Edmonton is often pronounced as ed’nton, and Calgary as cal’gry. Kelowna is often “k’lona”. People often refer to Toronto as tronno or tranna, and various similar elocutions. Newfoundland is often pronounced more like Newf’nland." Perhaps this too is partly responsible. This province was named after Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta. Alberta was originally established as a provisional district of the North West Territories in 1882. The name was maintained when Alberta officially became a province in 1905. natural-resources.canada.ca/earth-sciences/geography/origins-canadas-geographical-names/origin-names-canada-and-its-provinces-and-territories/9224#i think the Atla. Is just a shortened form of Alberta. “AB” became the new standard with the introduction of the postal code. David

I tried to create a new eBay seller account and add a new listing without using the word 'war'. www.ebay.ca/itm/354803682000Let's see how eBay responds to this attempt. Let’s hope you are successful. David

I have found this listing on Ebay. Asking price is $CAD 199.00 I am not at home and do not have access to my catalogue. Would someone be able to verify if there is a listing for # 8c? As the seller is in Canada I assume this is a Unitrade or Scott’s. There is no 8c listed on Colnect. i am wondering if the sides have been clipped? Any thoughts? i have dealt with this seller in the past with out problem. Before contacting they seller I want to make sure I have the correct info.

I had no idea there was an audiobook! Cool. Now the book is a bit heavy on psycho-self-analysis, but spot on in some ways, and in any rate a lot of fun. Makes us “philatelists” seem normal! I have yet to start listening. I was amazed there was even an audio copy in my library. I checked it out immediately as it was not all ready on loan. David
