Here is pictures of the first part of the Ohio Tax Stamp collection I bought. It is just full boxes, I already sorted the individual stamps into my collection before I took pictures. The 5000 count boxes each only have about 3600 stamps, but the small boxes are all full 1000 count boxes. I posted pictures of the second part of the collection in "Whatcha Been Stampin" today.

Thanks for the post and the photo, Mike. It sounds to me like you have made an incredible acquisition, and in fact, at least to me, it is something unheard of in more than 50 years of stamp collecting: 22,000 stamps, some in original boxes, some still sealed.... wow, just amazing! It seems like you have an epic story in the making here, so best of luck as you go through the carton. I hope that you will find even more great surprises! You are living a stamp collector's dream! Actually Chris, This was the second shipment, the first had 12,000 stamps in it. Yes, this is an Ohio Stamp Collectors Dream. I spent the entire day sorting and I haven't touched it yet. LOL. My eyes are crossed, so I had to stop finally. This is going to take awhile, I hope to finish the year. When I opened the box, I felt like I was 5 on Christmas day, and I got to do that two weeks in a row. Mike

Well, I got a large box containing 22,000 Ohio Tax Stamps last week. I have added the starting picture below. Under what you see are twelve 1000 count full boxes, two are still sealed. I started sorting these last week, but didn't get too far yet. So, I called in sick to work today, which is an overtime day anyway, and I think I will see how much I can sort this morning.

I remember when you, Steve, posted recently that you got a stack of Ohio Stamps and had several serial number offsets in the stack, so I looked through several full boxes I got last week. In one of the 60 cent boxes, I found a serial number off set of about 3/8" inch I think, to the left, which makes it so you can't even read the number hardly. It was a stamp ending in #165. I searched the rest of the box and found no others. So, I looked in the next 60 cent box and what did I find, the stamp ending in #165 offset exactly like the first, and of course, the third box I have had the same number offset. I guess they had a serial number that just wasn't right when they printed that day. All 3 boxes are the same 4 letters at the beginning. Just some information that is good to know I guess. I am slowly, very slowly, still just trying to separate this collection into major groups right now,not in a hurry. I alreay have a bout 40 that I needed and I haven't even started on the new box yet.

I just bought a mans entire collection. He was selling a few OSTS on Ebay and he had lots that several that I needed for about 50 cents each, so I bought all 3 lots he had listed. I asked if he had more and he sold me a few more. He then asked if I wanted to buy some boxes full, of course I asked how much. He sold be 2 5000 count boxes that had 3000 plus each and 3 full 1000 count boxes. I go them and that's where I found the duplicates of course, but he also included 100 random OSTS. I still haven't finished the stack yet, but out of the first 30 that I have done, I needed about 20 of them. Mostly Reserve Lithos, but they are filling in my spots. Well, last week he asked if I wanted the rest of his collection, which was another 22,000 stamps, including 12 full 1000 count boxes for $440, well I had the money so I bought them. I should get them this week and I guess I'll see what I bought. Do you have a list of what you have Steve? If so, send it to me so as I go through these, I can pull any you might need if you want me to. Or anyone else that collects these, I will gladly try to help out also.

Has anyone seen duplicate serial numbers on Ohio State Tax Stamps? The reason I ask is that I bought some original partial boxes of Reserve Litho Ohio stamps and in the 6 cent box, the 3000's are all the same. I have 10 sets of duplicate serial numbers ending in 3900 - 3999. There are no numbers from 3000 - 3899. Which means I have 10 of each number with the same serial numbers. I thought that was interesting, then I looked through the 9 cent box I bought and I have the same duplicates in it. I could understand if they were both the same denomination, but two different denominations? This seems rather interesting. Thanks for any insight.

Ok, so I should be keeping all the charity stickers and such I throw away all the time? We get these stickers and others like it all the time. I tell my wife to throw them away. Oh well, just another thing I have learned this week. LOL

I know everyone is talking about very old hinges, but does anyone know how to get some of the new US stamps off paper? I have plenty that will not seem soak off the paper no matter what I do. Here are two options. I've had good success using Pure Citrus. Because most of the modern U.S. self-adhesives appear to be printed on plastic film rather than paper, applying the liquid to the backing paper (rather than the face of the stamp) allows it to come in contact with the adhesive. I use my plastic perforation gauge to scrape the gum off the stamp once removed from the paper but a credit card would work equally well. If the stamps are on a non-porous backing material like the padded priority mailers the removal process is more difficult. Steve, is Pure Citrus a product you buy or do you mean use an orange? An orange would probably work, but then my stamp book would smell funny.

Thanks Steve. I had heard that but wasn't sure if they were going to include the OSTS in the new book. I guess I will have to buy a new copy then. Do you know if they are going to use Deane's numbers or keep the numbers they have been using? The only thing I disagree with Deane on is that a lot of the color differences are just faded colors to me. I actually have some books that the top stamps are faded and look like the lighter colors he has listed but the stamps inside are the darker colors since the sun or light has never hit them. I am sure it is extremely hard to try to figure out how to make a book and try to include all stamps, especially since not all stamps are known about. His book has taught me so much though, I never would have even tried to accumulate the collection I have now without the help of his book. It was worth every penny I paid for it. The same goes for the State Revenue Catalog. It has made collecting my State revenues so much easier and told me what I am actually looking for.

Beryllium Guy, the Nevada 6 cent stamp you show is $10.00 - 15.00 in mint and $4.00 in used.

Not sure what I did wrong, but the last line of the above post is what I tried to post. Here it is again: "This is a 1935-44 Nevada, #L2, 6 Cent brt green, Beer, Liquor, & Wine Tax stamp. These were actually used on various container sizes of beer." Thanks for responding to my original post, Mike. If you have an actual catalogue listing for this stamp, can you tell me the CV as well?

Thanks. I am still figuring this site out some days. I am using "The State Revenue Catalog" that rod222 listed at the top of the posting. I use it every day so when I found this post, I figured I would fill in the blanks for everyone. I am currently putting together my Ohio & Georgia Revenue Collections. The bottom three stamps that you show, actually have several variations depending on the perforations, So I just gave the main numbers.

I find some of these quite attractive and have been searching for information thus far without luck. I'll keep searching and add snippets when I find them. The red 5 cent - 1933-1939 Ohio Wine Tax stamp # W1. The purple 1 1/2 cent - 1938 Ohio Malt Beverage Tax stamp #B95. The last 3 are - 1947 Ohio Wine & Mixed Beverage Tax stamps #WL75, WL76, and WL81 respectively. These are what I collect along with the Ohio Sales Tax stamps.

Nevada Liquor Tax StampI know almost nothing about these kinds of stamps, but I have found a few of these items in an old collection which I was given, so thought I would post an image or two here to see if anyone else on TSF can tell me more about these. I did an internet search on this Nevada liquor tax stamp, and found a similar image of one of these which was cancelled in 1939, so perhaps that can give us a general idea of when these stamps were issued and in service. As a point of interest, I found a similar stamp currently for sale on eBay, and the listing contains a bit more information about this item. I also noted that the eBay item is in very poor condition, as it has multiple tears, and is missing a fairly large piece. My copy is a bit wrinkled and creased, but at least it is sound and fully intact. www.ebay.com/itm/Nevada-Liquor-Tax-Revenue-Stamp-Six-Cents-Green-Sep-1939-Reno-Levi-Zentaer-Co-/121320287146 This is a 1935-44 Nevada, #L2, 6 Cent brt green, Beer, Liquor, & Wine Tax stamp. These were actually used on various container sizes of beer.

Since this is my first year, I can't say if I kept any resolutions from last year since I didn't actually make any. But for this year: 1. Start the restoration on my original Savannah, Ga. Postal Bicycle that was given to me. 2. Organize my Ohio & Georgia Revenue Collections much better. 3. Get rid of 1/4 of my stamps. (I have way too many that I will never do anything with, like Prexies.) 4. Get back to my US Regular collection. 5. Sort & Organize my wife's FDC collection for her. 6. Enjoy life, it is much too short for all of us.

WOW, awesome find. I haven't bought that large of a lot in awhile now. I did recently get a 1000 count $15.00 box top & bottom in really good shape. That is the second box I own, the first being a large 10,000 count 1 cent Columbian box lid only. I didn't even realize that I had the box lid at first, because I bought it full of 100 count entire booklets. I bought the lot for the booklets and never paid attention to the box they were in until one day it was sitting here and I happened to look at it. I did recently buy a few small lots and got about 6 out of 10 that I needed in one of them. I even got a rare CO-3c-9C. But, so goes the hunt for the Ohio Tax Stamps. Mike.

Strobridge Lithograph Company (Six Cents)Strobridge produced 6 cent receipts for the first major design type. Dean has identified 2 types with 2 varieties (ST-6c-1 & ST-6c-2). I have figured out why some have the name and some don't. I have received two stacks of 100 of these in the last year, both times, only the first stamp has the Strobridge name on it. No other stamps in the stacks have the name, which means there are only 1 out of 100 with the name imprint on them. I have already told Monte Deane about this. I just got lucky buying large lots to discover this.

I had been waiting to add the above image of an Ohio Malt Beverage Tax stamp that is dated 12-23-43 upside down of course. It is from the Schoenling Brewing Company. This is just one of many Ohio Tax stamps that have perfin dates on them. Have a Great Christmas Mike Clevenger

I am off work until Jan 2, so I sat here in the morning searching through Ebay to find anything I needed. Just added a few to my watch list, bought nothing for once. LOL. I received some more OSTS, Ohio Sales Tax Stamps, in the mail yesterday. So, of course I sat here last night identifying the stamps and putting them in my book. It seems that in 2 hours, I should have been able to get more than 6 stamps done, but in between getting desert, sharing my pie with my dogs, taking the dogs out,and watching Big Bang, I guess it wasn't too bad. I guess I still have 11 days to try to catch up.

I have to agree with jkjblue, How does anyone keep up with collecting the world? I have a hard enough time with my Ohio OSTS, Ohio Revenues, Georgia Revenues, US Revenues, US Postage, and FDC's. I have way more stuff that I actually have, but don't collect, but just haven't had time to sell on Ebay yet. LOL. Sometimes I just have to stop and regroup because my mind hits overload. I am used to mind overload though, I fix jets for a living and stamps is how I unwind these days. Mike.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
Mick, if you need another jet, I think we are running a special for only $59,000,000 this week, that's about a $6,000,000 discount! I'm just the guy that builds an fixes them though, I get a regular paycheck like everyone else unfortunately. LOL.
Jerry, yes it is an interesting occupation. I learned to fix aircraft in the US Marine Corps back in the 80's, working on the old British built AV8A Harriers. When I got out of the Corps, I came to Savannah, since my best friend worked here. I have been here since 1989 and still love my job. I get to fly around in the extremely rich guys jets before we deliver them and I must say they do know how to travel in style!
Thanks again everyone, Mike.

I love the number labels. I have been trying to figure out what to use for my labels, mine are still hand written. Can you tell me which size labels you are using? I am using an old Scott 2 post brown album with eagle on front for my OSTS collection and the old Scott stock pages to make it easy, unfortunately, they aren't cheap. Thanks, Mike.
