Moderator Note: Original thread name " Found in Mom's Stuff" was changed to something more descriptive so that it would be more easily found in a search.
Not real sure but If my hunch is correct could be nice.Anyone with opinions?

Excise tax three leaf series.1934 Still a work in progress. Many of these even with deep pockets are just hard to find stamps.Of course I don't exactly have deep pockets most have holes in them.

Chris not always true but good general rule of thumb the smaller the post office the more desirable, both normal and inverted.

today's mission: Quebec Law stamps 1923 issue overprinted Honoraires Fees Two perfs 11 & 12 two different lengths of the overprint 17 1/2 mm and 18 1/2 mm.Also varieties with hairlines and inverted overprints. Each stamp could be one of four so it gets confusing.

Just today I realized that while I've never done a full inventory mainly because it would take forever and be out of date before it was finished.I do however have numerous want lists which if you think in reverse is actually a basic inventory. It doesn't of course include how many copies I have or such. The mind works different as I get older.(or not work as the case may be)

So just for giggles today I searched for a couple of the MIA's from the Quebec Law stamps. To my surprise they are trading for full and beyond $CV.There are so many issues I neglected when I was building my collection. It was more the case they just weren't available at my locale more than the funds.I found this to be especially true of the five hole officials and semi- postals. Now the revenues crop up in that boat as well.Of course now the prices have sky rocketed and it will come down to funds.I still plan on at least a very decent showing so broke I will remain.

brightonpete back to using quadrille pages for these. Some pages are also very mixed dates so these too will end up on quadrilles.Just as well I'd never in my wildest dreams complete every space provided by these pages.I already screwed up some others .After I mounted another issue I turned the page to find there were three perforations.I haven't decided if I really want to delve in that far on them, but at $75 each on some perfs I better check the ones I mounted.

So I guess this is a review of the van dam pages.I do not like the way the Quebec law series was handled. There are four pages exactly alike to allow for the color varieties. Meaning the four colors are on separate pages as opposed to the way I like them all colors of same denominations all in a row.

Nelson no mention in Van Dam.doesn't mean they don't exist but Van Dam is considered the authority on BNA revenues.

brightonpete good ideas! I am actually not all that interested in mint stamps. I understand (in some cases ) the higher CV, but something unused, nerver serverd it's purpose- as a musician, I can think of nothing sadder than an instrument never played- left it it's case, or a display, but never 'taken to task"- so keeping them sepasrate is a good idea1 renden If I am not too hard on myself ...who will be!>! madbaker While Saskatchewan used law stamps just as the rest apparently when they were of no more use the remnants were sold in bulk to Kasmere Belinski He produced countless overprints etc on them and created another way to sell them.I'm wondering if some of them are in that bunch.

brightonpete revenues were never listed in Unitrade as Unitrade only concerns itself with postal issues. The revenue catalog for BNA is Van Dam revenue catalog.Postage dues are not a revenue issue.Revenues and officials are totally different animals. If you think completing a country with just postal issues is expensive try completing a country with the revenues included. Many are never to be found. Now throw in the providences and Newfoundland.I also dabble with private perfins and not shabby with SSJB issues or Canadian cinderillas. No wonder I'm always poor.

As you can see many years are covered in various issues some have hints and as such can be "filed" that way.then the question becomes how broken up do you arrange the "sets".The law stamps can be filed pretty easily and the way I approach it is ;I complete the Van dam page then decide which year (usually the earliest) to file the completed page.

renden The postage dues are pretty cut and dry although you need to use the dates of issue when placing them. the problem I have is much more complex.Revenues are normally treated and grouped by issue(sets). The use of excise stamps spans a couple different decades. The law stamps of each providence were also multiple issues so you see it becomes a BIG problem trying to organize by years.I like to group everything in the year of issue even the cinderillas and locals and am looking to add the revenues to the format. When the problem is resolved with the revenues all will be good there are no more issued that I know of.The end should be in sight after this is done. PS if you look at J19 you will see it wasn't issued til 1957 where it should be mounted.

If anyone has experience with trying to put Canadian revenues in chronological order I could use your help and advice.I have the Van Dam pages and as I fill them I try to insert them in proper year however the system used to create the pages group them together and sets span too many years to follow my system. Some are easy like the bill stamps but others like the excise tax issue present a problem.I'm pretty set in my ways so changing things is not something I'd do.I started this project years ago after looking at a Darnell catalog and realizing it absolutely makes perfect sense to present things in the order they appeared. It's like chapters in a book.

I am getting old. While clearing the stamp table I finally looked at the packing zipper used to send those nice stamps my way. What a surprise two nice post cards depicting scenes of my local area.Haines Falls in a very popular hiking area six miles from here. There are numerous stories of this area. Many people have died and been injured trying to get too close to falls. The picture of the lodge is history of one of hundreds of old resorts dotting this area.At one time there was a rail service to get to the top of the mountain. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catskill_Mountain_RailwayThanks Z&D I'll make an addition to your intro page at the beginngs of the Funky Frog collection.

mikeclevenger the last review I looked at said it was not totally compatible reading roulettes which makes sense as some roulettes differ I guess in what you would call profiles.Meaning the actual deepness of the roulette.

I'm still waiting for the Turkey catalog so my big stamping activity will be mounting the three U.S. stamps I won sometime in the past couple weeks.I do enjoy checking here to see what everyone's doing so that will remain my general stamp doings.

stainlessb The first clue is the condition consider that it is supposed to be from 1848 now taking that as a hint I would definitely think reprint.I dabble in the local posts and come across many that are similar to yours.there are even some people hawking freshly made ones all the time.In short a minefield to walk through.Nice anyway.
