Just as Thematics are an important part of Postage Stamp collecting, so they are too with Cinderella collectors. I started collecting Flags on Cinderellas as a sideline to my Flag collection of worldwide Postage stamps. I add to it whenever I can, whilst not really knowing what to go after.....such is the beauty of collecting Cinderellas !
SVENSKA FLAGGANS DAG [Swedish Flag Day]
Swedish Flag Day has been celebrated since June 6th, 1916 to commemorate the founding of Modern Sweden in 1523. In 1983 the name was changed to the National Day of Sweden, although it did not become a National Holiday until 2005 !! Swedish Flag Day Poster stamps have been issued most years since 1916.
Here is the issue from 1938.I will post more here later.
....and just as I promised, a very short time elapsed.

Very nice indeed Lb1, and such lovely scans to boot. I am not game to post any images, they probably belong to you anyhows I have the 1978 Swedish Flag Day image, (and I think its mine) if you need it, but I doubt it.

Post the 1978 Rod, let's see it !!
In the meantime, here are a few more flag items, for the most part self-explanatory, and anyway, I do not profess to know any more !! [Well, maybe a little, for some].
Many of these would fit equally well into the Patriotic and Propaganda thread, so I have saved some for that place too !!
thestampforum.boards.net/thread/1042/propaganda-patriotic-cinderellas
OOps !! Sorry about that last one. But us Flag collectors must stick together !!

For useless information collectors. The wheel is a milling machine cutter, and the flags coming off are represented from the waste material called swarf. Those cutters help create all your fancy cogs, in motor vehicles differentials and gearboxes, amongst others.

Having done a spot of research, I believe the Helms' series 'Confederate Battle Flag' is an error !
I checked a number of sources but found the answer in my copy of the excellent 1917 edition of the National Geographic Magazine [vol 32].
There, it states that the difference between the Battle Flag and the 2nd Navy Jack is the size. The former is square while the latter is ratio 2:3. The former also has a thin white strip around th edges. The size of the Square Battle Flag differed between the forces carrying it.
Fascinating stuff. Now who should I write to for a correction !

There wasn't a standard Confederate battle flag, although the Army of Northern Virginia battle flag pattern is the pattern most commonly associated with the Confederacy -- it was also incorporated as the canton of the Second and Third national patterns. As a flag aficionado, you might want to check out the Flag Database at the Museum of the Confederacy website -- their collection consists of over 500 wartime Confederate national, state, presentation, regimental and company flags.

Following on from the Staehle-Dietz sheet shown in the Patriotic & Propaganda topic, here is another sheet showing the Flags of the Overrun Nations and commemorating both those nations and the issue of the USA stamp series. Another gem from the colours of L.W.Staehle.
Another from the same producer and designer, very similar to the one above with almost identical marginal inscriptions.

The sheet [above] was shown earlier but I have now found a little info, purely by chance but worth noting.
The United States Flag Association was founded in April 1927 by former Army Colonel James Moss. The USFA became a national institution for promoting Flag Etiquette and Patriotism as well as helping to stop the spread of Communism and Crime. Colonel Moss headed the foundation until his death in 1941 and by 1942 it appears the foundation went into decline.

I believe we have something similar to this one somewhere but I have not found it yet. Religious in content and it looks like it is advertising some event by the Anglo-Saxon Federation.
Still searching.......
The one below could not be more different ! This German Union label was an issue of the DHV, the Deutschnationale Handlungsgehilfen-Verband an anti-democratic and anti semitic forerunner to the Nazi Party. Existed until 1933.
I am sure there are others.......

Great Flags from everyone.
Here is one from Canada.
Louis-francois Lafleche holding the 'fleurdelise', the Flag of Quebec where he was a Catholic Bishop. I hope frog can tell us about this SSJB issue, date etc.
Very nice design.
EDIT: Looks like date could be 1949 [?]

It is indeed a 1949 issue. one of four for that year.Interesting my notes tell me that was only color released. Most of the SSJB issues were printed in at least two colors most in four and some even more. I didn't load my cd but if anyone needs catalog number I can comply.

1939 Finnish Relief Fund. Fund set up in the USA by former President Herbert Hoover to help Finnish Civilians during the Winter War (1939-40). The sale of these labels contributed towards the fund. A wintry type feel about it to go with the reason for it's issue. Printed by the American Bank Note Company. Shows a Finnish woman waving a Finnish State Flag. It does look like the post- 1978 type but it's hard to determine from the design. The flag also appears to be very large (Official size 11:18).

When Postage was 2½p & 3p the people said 'NO' !! Even the lure of Traitor's Gate did not help......in they went ! It took until the postage was 54p & 63p to say 'NO' again.
But the Union Flag kept on flying...........
Below is a very good-looking advertising label for Dahl's Flagfabrik, the place to go in Copenhagen, Denmark if one needs a Flag ! A very nice looking shop too. Situated in the Norreport area of the Danish Capital. The Danish Flag is the world's oldest Flag still in use.
Londonbus1....so what is the world's youngest Flag ?
