Received these 2 from my wife as a present - she's very supportive of my stamping (maybe especially since I"m supportive of her hobbies!)
Read Nassau Street - great read, it certainly was a different era. Just browsed Lost Countries so far, but looks very interesting as well.

I found Lost Countries is available in Kindle format. Alas, not available in the US due to copyright restrictions. Ah, but I'm traveling abroad in Australia, so changed my Amazon location to Perth, and it's now in my library for $5.37US.

gmot, Nassau Street is one of the few stamp books that made it with me on my big move west. I love reading and re-reading it. And you’re right, it sure was a different time for collectors then!

Read most of Lost Countries now, it's an enjoyable read. Little 2-3 page vignettes of various "dead countries" (maybe 100 or so?), both classic era and more modern. It's not philatelic, but gives the background on these entities and how they came about/vanished, written in a pretty light style. I love any kind of history as well as stamps, so perfect read for me - goes best with a nice glass of whisky

Nassau Street was one of the first books that I purchased when I returned to collecting last year. It’s great! Here is a short video of what Nassau Street must have been like in the mid-1950s.

I have got some interesting books I managed to buy in second-hand book shops in Rio de Janeiro, so I do not really know if they are scarce or not... I will share one of them and, if you are interested, I show the others, OK? This one in three volums, about German Colonies and Foreign Post Offices abroad cancelations...

does anyone know if 2011 is the latest Stanley Gibbons Queen Victoria specialized? If anyone has this edition- how much color versus black and white images?
Thanks
Stan

My own copy is older, 2004, and there are no colour images at all in that edition. The only listing I could find with a look inside the 2011 edition (latest edition that I see anywhere) shows a view of a few pages inside - the frontispiece is in colour but the other images shown are black & white. The book description there mentions only b/w images as well. Ryan

That's what i thought from what info I could gather.... SG GB Concise 2013 has lots of color , but there's a big disconnect between info in it and the SG GN QV specialized ( but I do have an older copy... 1971) I have Stoneham, but the number is completely different and I'm not finding it all that helpful Thanks for the response RyanStan

Although my philatelic library shelf is rather sparse, there is a red-hardcover copy of Scott's Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue (The Encyclopedia of Philately) Volume 1, The Americas and the British Commonwealth of Nations, published 1945 that takes up considerable space. For me, it is a quick & handy reference for the earlier stamps and the section "Information for Collectors" has details that appear to have been omitted in later editions. Has anyone seen an example of a stamp printed on both sides?
Even though I have relatively few texts on my shelves, there is plenty of material available on-line and earlier when I came across this site, my library expanded considerably - the Philatelic Society of Lancaster County Electronic Library. The United States of America, Canada, Great Britain & Commonwealth are well represented and it even has an International Section, but it was the Falkland Islands .pdfs that caught my eye with their well documented collections and eye-popping examples!
Happy reading...

Has anyone seen an example of a stamp printed on both sides? I have a copy of a Bavarian stamp with printing on both sides. And I have this oddball British postal stationery piece with a misplaced extra indicium on the back side of the envelope. Ryan
