It is amazing the number of books out there. Yes. And I would love to be able to read and write in German, Italian and Spanish.

Here are two additions to my library that I’ve received over the last two weeks. This book is by Sol Glass and published by the Bureau Issues Association. I had never heard of it before and found it while browsing on eBay. It was pretty cheap, so I thought that I’d give it a try. Although I haven’t read it yet, I’m pretty impressed with what I saw when I flipped through it and am glad that I got it. This one concerns the 4th Bureau Issue, my favorite definitive set. I’ve been aware of it for some time, but didn’t want to pay the $40+ usually asked for it. After looking for several months, I finally found one on eBay for what I consider to be an acceptable price. It contains some good information, but could have used a good proofreading before being published. Martin Armstrong, the author, is quite a colorful character and did 11 years in a federal prison for his part in a Ponzi scheme. More about this can be found here.

Being locked down at home, already for six weeks and with two to four more ahead, I'm lucky enough to have with me my cinderellas, stamps and my philatelic library. having collected for nearly 50 years, my book-shelves are full of magazines, catalogs and books on stamps, cinderellas, postmarks, postal history and (off course!) catalogs. I tend to use Yvert for world wide, Michel for Germany and Northern Europe, Zumstein for Switzerland, Hibernian for Ireland, SG for Britain & Austria and Filabo for Andorra. I also have and old copies of Scott both on paper (still b/w) and on a CD, which I only use the last to put the stamps on Steiner pages; as I don't like neither the (incomplete) information, nor the lay-out. I must say, that I only collect cinderellas and some European countries. I have books, mainly on the languages that I can read: Catalan (my own one), English, French, Spanish, German as well as in other ones that I can only guess.
I'll show some of the works that grace my selves:
1.- Catalonia on stamps and cinderellas (not all), compiled 15 years ago by my late friend Sebastià Sabaté
2.- Letters and postmen. a history of postage in Barcelona, by Antonio Aguilar
3.- Cinderellas circulated on letters and postcards, a modern work (2019) by a good friend on mine and cinderella specialist, Josep Sauret
4.- James Mackay's wonderful book on "Stamps Facts & Feats"
5.- Two catalogs

Very nice reference books cursus ! What’s in my library? Well, I bet I’m the odd duck here. I live in a VERY humid climate - books that are rarely opened up and aired get a funky tropical musty smell, even with good air conditioning. (One of the reasons I’m trading off my mint stamps). I’m also very allergic to dust and mold (triggers asthma) so having miles of linear shelf space for books is very contraindicated. When we lived in Michigan, we had several full walls of books - hundreds and hundreds. When we moved here, we donated about half to the local library. The rest we have been culling a bit at a time. Hubby and I actually turned it into an exercise incentive - we drop off books to the local library when we ride bikes. We also downsized so we don’t have physical room for all those books. I LOVE books, but times change. With the internet, I RARELY go to a book for reference information nowadays. It is much quicker to google. Online catalogs and reference sites are making hard copies more and more obsolete. Also, I am no longer a worldwide collector, so I only keep reference books that I actually use. The only exception is my collection of Irish Philately books. So my library consists of a basic Scott, Michel, Facit, Unitrade and a few others with a shelf of Irish material. After Scott’s, the book I use most is my Hibernian followed by the Facit. In a pinch, the American Philatelic Society has a lending system, so I can borrow specialized books if I need to do research. (At least they used to! Not sure if the lending system is still active.)

As it seems that there are around some cinderella fans. This is a 1994 catalog of the "seals" (actually, cinderellas) issued by the Estonian Society for the Preservation of Historical Memory from 1988 to 1993. It's in Estonian, but, nevertheless, i've managed to find some interesting information on it.

I can't resist an old Stanley Gibbons World Catalogue when I see them in a charity shop. I have 3 so far, 1929, 1939 and 1941. Despite being old they are still interesting to look through.

(Please see earlier post for image.) You have to smile sadly: the Whole World (1929) in one small volume for less than £1; now SG Simplified is 6 huge volumes and costs over £250.

Another charity shop buy. Published in 1949, a great reference on how stamps were manufactured in the days of line engraved, surface printed and lithographed stamps.

Finally stepping into the ring after years of just accumulating precancels and shoving them into envelopes. Maybe I can finally make some sense out some of them.

An old (Edinburgh, 1913) thick (220 pages) book, very well printed and illustrated on general stamp collecting. Aimed to children, but with a level higher than most 60's or 70's books on the subject. Picked 30 years ago at a second-hand bookstore close to Oxford (UK) railway station (going to downtown, as I can recall).
