UNESCO, WHO. and FAO were all popular stamp topics. Most countries issued unremarkable designs. Laos created a nice engraved issue for UNESCO

After the US had abandoned South-Vietnam with a phony peace-treaty, it was only a question of time till the communists would take over all countries of Indochina. So the anti-communist forces in Laos and the Pathet-Lao came also to a "peace-accord".
The stamps show Prince Souvanna Phouma, the "neutralistic" prime minister of Laos on the left, the king in the middle and Prince Saphanou-Vong the figure head of the Pathet-Lao on the right.
The peace-accord was not much more, than an agreement how to get to a communist takeover, with as few bloodshed as possible. Stamps issued Feb.21st,1975. (second anniversary of the treaty !)
s.s. issued in June 1975.

When the communist takeover was imminent, the vultures (no offence to those wonderful birds !) stepped in. An agency, what was also active in some african countries and Cambodia, issued two sets of stamps,UPU centennary and Apollo-Sojuz on July 7th and US Bi-centennial on July 30th,1975. All in all 24 stamps,of course perforated and imperforated and about more than 40 souvenir sheets. Quite pricey, easily exceeding € 1000.- cat value. Not to my taste,so I exclude them from my album.

Issued Aug.22nd,1975.
This is the last stamp issue of the Kingdom of Laos. The monarchy was abolished and a communist peoples republic, closely "guided" by Vietnam was established on Dec.2nd,1975.The first stamps of the new regime were issued one year later.
