Great Britain Semi-official Airmail. GWR Britain's Great Western Railway provided airmail service between Cardiff, Wales, and Plymouth, England. In 1933, the British postmaster general authorized the Great Western Railway to use a 3d grayish-green railway airmail stamp shown, for prepayment of this service. The stamp was in use from May 15 to Sept. 30, 1933. Great Britain's postal service stands out as one of the few long-established postal administrations never to have issued an airmail stamp. (Correct as to date of authorship, around 1980? since then airmail stamps have been issued SG2357a etc)) Of course, this is only true if one excludes local and semiofficial airmail stamps. The Sanabria World Airmail Catalogue, last published complete in 1966, countries A-M in 1972, lists no fewer than 41 semi official airmail stamps of Great Britain. Some of these stamps are also listed in the German-language Michel catalog. A 3d green and red Great Western Railway semiofficial airmail stamp, Sanabria S3, is shown. The British postmaster general authorized the use of this stamp to prepay delivery via the Great Western Railway's airmail service between Cardiff, Wales, and Plymouth, England, starting May 15, 1933. The service was discontinued Sept. 30, 1933.

Not strictly true. There is a small Machin series of 5 airmail stamps [SG2357a,b, 2358,2358a and 2359.] Generally considered to be the first airmail stamps of Great Britain.
However, they are not as interesting as the Private Airmails like the one you showed here. Many of these are scarce and pricey.
Nice one !

I looked at SG2357a Indeed, the text would have been correct at time of authorship, but time moves on, and we shall have to edit that commentary now. Thanks.

Never seen the Anniversary label in blue before...and with such rough-looking edges. Very nice ! The De La Rue labels are actually Exhibition items. The bottom left label was one of 4 issued for the 1955 De La Rue Stamp Centenary Exhibition held at the Royal Philatelic Society in London. There also exists Plate Proofs in many colours but in very small quantities [1 sheet of each]. These are the most scarce of all British Philatelic Exhibition items !! The other labels are from the Story of Stamps Exhibition held at De La Rue House in Regent Street,London in April 1959. The top one also exists Imperf, Rouletted and on Pink Paper [proof] but I have never seen them in all my years of searching. Nice pages. Londonbus1

I'll adjust my pages to suit, very much appreciated, solid information. Here is the inverted Jenny Bleriot, from the internet, owner : a collector from Canberra (As it is a 1 pass printing, the inverted vignette is obviously engineered as tongue in cheek) Perforation looks like : Pin perforated horizontally, and Line Rouletted vertically.

Forgeries of Great Britain wary from the highly collectable Queen Victoria 'Stock Exchange' forgery to the amateurish forged overprints of the Official Stamps. I have gathered some images of forgeries here and where possible compared them to genuine stamps: stampforgeries.com/forged-stamps-of-great-britain/

Not sure how I missed this but the item above is also an Exhibition item. Produced for the 7th North-East Philatelic Weekend in June 1983 at the Airport Hotel, Newcastle. Sheets of 12 [4x3], invisibly gummed, rouletted and Litho printed. The 12th label, bottom right of sheet shows the plane inverted. I need to 'get a grip' !! Londonbus1

This set will show up in funky frog stuff.I'm sure LB1 will chime in but I believe it was printed in more colors. It seems to have been common practice in this era to print cindys in four colors and while I too have the green I would not be surprised to find there are others.

Coronation of George Vl Coronation Souvenirs of the King's Regalia Harrison & Sons Rotogravure Tatham Stamp Company It appears that they were sold in the USA by Tatham in the sheets shown by Rod and not in whole sheetlets as they were in Britain. I show 2 examples below. They were issued in folders which included a folded information sheet about each design. Lovely souvenirs.

WOW must have been a popular issue.Anyone have all six??? I have only seen the full set of sheetlets on 2 occasions if my memory serves me well. Individual stamps appear quite plentiful. But in Britain they were sold in sheetlets so have most likely been broken up in time. I got a full set of sheetlets from a dealer at the Stafford Stamp Show in June 2012. I paid £28. At the time I though it was a a decent price.

Thanks Rod, but, is it an original? Theron. Ah, I see, I also see no reason to forge it, not that that, would stop the rascals. I suggest that almost certainly it is genuine , (looks pristine and not far from my numbered stamp) I cannot recall where I saw it listed, that would give the perforation, other than that, all I can suggest is you scan it at 600dpi, and email it to me, and I'll toggle the images for differences.
