I'm trying to collect a full sheet of 2 penny blues. If you want this one, I'll trade you for another 2PB. Give me time, I have not begun to mount GB, they are all in shoeboxes.

Jack, I want to keep the first two 2 Penny Reds because I don't have many of that style, but you can have the rest if you want them -- and anything else that Rod hasn't claimed.

I had this front for years and never knew much about it. I found it in a box of stamps that I had bought. I kept it because I liked the Free handstamp. It also has a Chapel Street Penny Post hs in the upper right. But otherwise, it's pretty bleak. Some people on the web told me about the signature at the lower left. It is from Lord Melbourne and the date of SP 12 1839 was when he was Prime Minister of England, the first under the new Queen Victoria. This is certainly one of my best finds !

I don't think this is the right venue for that story. But let's just say I'm much happier not being a part of Stampboards.

Not 100% sure about this info that I have collected over the years. Plate 32 is an educated guess but probably close. 1848 Penny Red Vertical Pair on Blued Paper bearing Alphabet I check letters from Plate 32 on piece of newspaper paying a Printed Matter rate with Liverpool 466 oval grid postmark. Full to Large margins all around showing part of next stamp at top.

The type side is interesting and speaks about coffee from Jamaica. Great reading stories about the goods that they found in America to export back to England and Europe.

That printface and text, if you had shown me without the obverse, I would have suggested it was printed 1960's to present. Does not look like 1848 print. Amazing.

Apparently not that odd - according to people I've shown this to. The older newsprint was made so well, and with a cotton fibre blended in, that it would last forever. There was a point in time when newsprint was made cheaply, and that stuff becomes old and brown. Since this piece is from 1848, it's made from the good raw materials. Therefore, there is no need to remove the stamps from the paper as the paper will not harm the stamps.

This one is kinda neat with the Crown handstruck from Nottingham to London - MR 28 1839 The Crown handstruck was used for cancelling rates. You can see that the original rate is underneath the crown and the double rate of 1/8 (1s 8d) written at left. This is listed in my book, "The Postal History of GB and Ireland" by RM Willcocks on Page 38 - No. 682. and there are different crowns, so this is only one of the types. I have a few of these nice handstrucks. See below.

1839 Bradford (Yorkshire) to Newington Butts, London with the G : P handstruck. The G : P means that the letter was delivered in the town area of London without an additional local charge.

I always liked this one, the Sunday handstruck. This one is on a Free Frank front dated NO 24 1839 London by the 1st Marquis and 8th Earl of Westmeath (Ireland). These sometimes go up for sale on eBay UK and are not necessarily expensive.

Great Britain sheet of red and blues and more. Wow. Zipper, you are amassing an amazing collection. So many great postmarks. I had a quick look the other day for the tuppeny blues for you, I don't think I have a single one ! Early Great Britain is so involved, I think it is a "stamp too far" for me. The straight barred Postmarks the 1/- "114" are easily recognisable as Scotland. also the tuppeny blue above it, "21"?

Great postmarks? Don't know anything about that. As usual, I bought these for the 2 penny blues. Each Postmark number relates to a Village A collector of Postmarks can do a virtual travel around England, Scotland or Ireland via the numbers. The owner of this book beforehand, was collecting the Towns of Ireland
