Surely not the hanging of John Barrett? There's no catching you out, Jaysee "13th February 1832" ? The last man in England, to be hanged for letter stealing.

I'm amazed. Perhaps the more salient point was that he was "The last POSTMAN in England to be hanged for letter stealing" He was tried at the Old Bailey on 5th January 1832 on several counts of stealing and found guilty, and hanged on 13th February 1832. They didn't mess around in those days. You can read about his trial below: www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?path=sessionsPapers%2F18320105.xml

Further down the page 3 x 14 y.o boys stole 3 clogs worth 2/6d Sentence: "Transported 7 years"

And hanging may have been a lesser penalty considering the lack of pain before death. As for the Transportation - this webpage says,"... people were sent there: men, women and children, sometimes as young as nine years old."

The control trick doesn't work for me. I use a MacBook. OK Zipper, try this? philatelicsannex.org/reference/Billig's%20Volume%209.pdfNo Good The apostrophe / single quote in a URL needs to be percent encoded in order for it to work on this forum. Same thing with spaces, they need to be percent encoded to avoid breaking the URL link (and that has already been done, %20 is the percent encoding for a space). To percent encode the apostrophe / single quote here, replace it with %27. philatelicsannex.org/reference/Billig%27s%20Volume%209.pdfOld news now as Zipper has already been able to download the book linked, but keep the percent encoding in mind if you happen to run in to the same problem again in the future! PS - Zipper, if you don't (or anybody else doesn't) have the software needed to rotate the pages on that British Postmarks book and you're annoyed by them being tipped sideways, let me know by private message through the forum (click on my user name, then click on the "Send Message" button). I can send you a copy with the pages right side up.

to rotate, merely right click on any page, drop down list offers the user to rotate the book in any direction. or, perhaps just my computer? I have a habit of fixing this at the file level rather than correcting it in the browser / reader. At least with my copy of Adobe Reader, I can rotate the pages but attempting to save this under a new file name just gives me another copy of the book with unrotated pages, so I have to turn them every time I open the file. And if I happen to be looking at a PDF on my smart phone I don't even know how to rotate them. It starts annoying me more than it should so I fix the file! Ryan

I hadn't noticed that. Similar experience in Foxit Reader. No matter what you do, the original page orientation remains. Even with a file : save as...........

I picked up a mixed box yesterday and found some GB in an old album that looks like its been a bit damp. The pages had a cellophane over-cover which would not have helped Q. Any value here in these blocks?

I go these in an oddball lot of stamps. These look like labels. The two on the right has "Published by WINOX LTD Richmond Surrey England" printed on the back.

"Very nice, the two on the right are the full set, shown here, scroll down. ansmagazine.com/Spring06/Cavell " Actually, on the site it says the 2 poster stamps are from a series of 4. You can see the block of 4 below (about a third of the way down the page). They seem to have been issued in a variety of colours. eastendww1.org/tag/german/
