Postmarks of the British Isles from 1840 to 1876, page 15, figures 65-67. Mine is an example of figure 65, used in red for morning duty. The letter on the left of the crown is missing on my cover simply due to a less than perfect hammer strike. Much appreciated.

Other rod222Hi Rod, thanks for the link to the Salomon Rosenthal Collection (1847-1859) at Cherrystone Auctions (2008). Wonderful examples. Most, if not all, have 'Paid' packet stamps and almost all are dated after 1850. The earliest one (surprise, surprise) was sent to Huth & Co. (laugh) ... I'm starting to think you could tell the postal history of the UK during most of the 19thC just using covers to and from Huth & Co. Anyway, one of the Rosenthal covers had a postmark very similiar to the one on my cover. Here it is ... from 1855. (lot 581, applied by British Agency office) Here is mine ... from 1849. The design is similair, double ring VERA-CRUZ and date. The major difference is that the position of the year and date have been flipped.
