With these map stamps issued in 2017, Mauritius documents its claim to Tromelin Island and the Chagos Archipelago. The Chagos Archipelago is of course currently part of the British Indian Ocean Territory, while Tromelin Island is part of the French Southern and Antarctic Territories, and is also claimed by Madagascar and the Comoros. Not from the sand bar that Tromelin actually is, but rather for the large maritime area around it.

My favourite series from Mauritius is the following showing various historical events from the island, issued starting in 1978 and also as aerograms and postage due issues. I am nowhere near completion here!

Mauritius 1880 Sc # 61 - 8c bl cancelled "B65" from Rodrigues Island Note: Retroveal program shows better the cancel B65From Spink: #18, 1859 6p Blue, used, with excellent central strike of "B65" barred numeral cancel of Rodrigues Island, ample to mostly large margins, rich color, thin spots, very fine appearance; a very rare early classic stamp of Mauritius used from this tiny island with a distinctive "B65" cancel used only at this location; 1960 RPS certificate (S.G. #32). (Image) Est. $400-500 SOLD for $500.00 Spink Auction............. ....but not this specific Sc61 B65 cancel of mine

Well,Rodrigues, one of my three favourite islands,is not that tiny ! You would need a solid condition,to walk around the island in one day. The population and the culture of Rodrigues differ a lot from that of Mauritius.People are of African descent and are catholic (96%). While the vast majority in Mauritius is of Indian descent.
Mauritius neglected Rodrigues a long time. But when voices for a seperation and independence got louder,Port Louis reacted positively by fostering the development of Rodrigues. The description of the shown stamp by Spink sounds a little flowery. The cancel is barely visible and the stamp is of ordinary quality. But the price is quite impressive ! I am not envious, but why the hell can this not be my stamp ?

salentinI used Spink - Auction result and its 1859 6l bl and description to illustrate a nice B65 (but I did not want to reproduce the sold stamp) Mine does not fit the description (italic) as it is a 1880 8c (not p) blue with a B65 cancel but not as nice. Sorry I may have confused some people. It is always good to hear from you and your "history" of the Island Rrodriguez. Thanks ! René

More real classics of Mauritius [ADMIN Note: the original post was deleted after the poster intentionally deleted all of the images] Maybe Stanley Gibbons have changed their numbering ? My S.G.lists the above stamps as nos.39 and 40.More than that I am puzzled by colour of S.G.28 (or 39?): in my opinion it looks like vermillion. All major catalogues list it as red-brown.Here my own ones for comparison:

the Rupee-values:
The Marine Life def.set is not an easy one to collect: In 1969 the stamps were issued with watermark 12 S.G.(314 Sc.),sideways on some, upright on others. In 1972/74 the set was re-issued,now with a upright watermark on some and sideways on others. Some few values exist with inverted watermark. All stamps of both sets were printed on chalk-surfaced paper. However some values also exist on glazed, ordinary paper.
In 1975/77 the set was re-issued once more, now with watermark 14 S.G. (373 Sc.). The watermarks, especially on mint stamps, are not easy to see and identify.

I concur! When cataloguing my stamps, I had a lot of trouble trying to tell which printing they were from. In several cases, I couldn't identify the watermark at all...

Only need to quote section that is relevant not all the images and your catalogs unless very recent, probably need an update. SG constantly changes its numbers.
#39 is $5000 & #40 is $250,000 both blue and very different designs. The red-brown is #30 Unissued as is #31. I cannot tell from your scan which color it is.
2016 SG Commonwealth Catalog Yes,you are absolutely correct.S.G.must have changed all those numbers.The (6 P.) vermillion was no.37.I became confused,because I thought
your stamps were the un-issued ones 30 and 31,what were 39 and 40. I will not buy a new S.G.,because I am not interested in new issues of the last two decades.I better stay with Michel, where such numbering carousels are not known. The stamps I showed, were the un-issued ones S.G.no.30 & 31.

The original set had no year-imprints. Several stamps were reprinted with year imprints 1983 and 1985. The 35 C. imprinted 1986 is perforated 14.5 instead of 13.5 of the earliar stamps.
Stamps imprinted 1987 were printed on different paper,now watermarked W16 (S.G.),Sc.Wmk 384, instead of W14 (S.G.),Sc.Wmk 373 as before.
