Pair of stamps issued by the Central African Republic on the occasion of the visit of French President Giscard d'Estaing to the country in 1975:  The relationship between Giscard and Bokassa became a matter of scandal. Giscard allegedly accepted an undeclared gift of diamonds from Bokassa and the ensuing brouhaha cast a shadow over the rest of his presidency. I was too young to pay attention at the time, but I recall plenty of chatter about the "Bokassa diamonds". |
