Bulgaria issued this set of six stamps on June 25, 1972 in advance of the 20th Olympiad hosted in Munich, West Germany. The set depicts figures of athletes in silver and black (Scott 2034-2039). Also issued was an imperf miniature sheet with an 80s stamp (Scott 2040) with a stadium and sports design.

The first sport-related issuance of the United States was the 2c carmine rose, perf. 11 stamp commemorating the 3rd Olympic Winter Games held at Lake Placid, New York, February 4-13, 1932 (Scott 716). Stamps commemorating the 10th Olympic Games, held at Los Angeles, California, July 30 to August 14, 1932 were the 3c violet and 5c blue, perf. 11x10.5 set issued June 15, 1932 (Scott 718 and 719, respectively).

I've done serious hiking in the Lake Placid area. Some spots you can walk forty miles before hitting a road. Some real beautiful country and natural wilderness. One spot I walked a fire road seven miles which just ended in a forest with no trail, only the brave of heart venture farther. My compass allowed for an another two days walking.

Calgary, Alberta was home to the 1988 Winter Olympics from February 13-18, 1988. On January 10 of that year the U.S. issued this 22 cent multicolored, perf. 11 stamp (Scott 2369) to commemorate those games.

I confess to being a HUGE sports fan... any sport, all sports. I love competition! Suffice it to say I get excited about the Olympics - the world at play under the umbrella of sporting competition. To celebrate the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics show your favorite Olympics themed stamps... summer or winter, new or old let's see them!

Brazil has produced a great many stamps to commemorate the 2016 Olympics, and here is one that came my way recently. It was affixed to a postcard of one of the 2014 World Cup stadiums - nice combo of stamp and card. The postmark is pretty nice too.

Perhaps the most famous of all the Olympic Games The Souvenir Sheets For those who would enjoy spending some time viewing ALL the events of these and other Olympics, I would suggest a visit to this most remarkable site containing 1000's of pictures of events, athletes, stamps, labels posters and enough information to fill volumes The Olympic Museum

Myanmar 2013 The 27th South East Asian Games. One of eight stamps that commemorated the games. On postcard sent to me by a friend who was visiting Myanmar at the time.
Unfortunately I am far from being a stick. More of a log. A round one. (I'm going to reuse this image next year on the Postmark Calendar, as I really like this stamp.)

Spain 1981 1981 Universiade (World University Games), 30pta Scott 2229
I wasn't familiar with the concept of the Universiade, but apparently they are pretty big: "The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words "University" and "olympiad". The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games... The Universiade is the largest multi-sport event in the world apart from the Olympic Games." ( wikipedia) The 1981 Winter Universiade took place in Jaca, Spain. Alas, the host nation failed to win any medals ( wikipedia), but no doubt there was much cameraderie over the drinking of hot mulled sangria and dancing of flamencos until dawn. At least, I hope that is what university students do in Spain. This stamp is on a postcard and it includes quite a nice cancel. Hopefully the full cancel will manifest on the forum in the Postmark Calendar on the 9th of May next year.

As I approach the bittersweet final disposal of my US collection, I've been searching for a new way of satisfying the collector instinct that keeps me going every day ... and I think Olympic stamps are the answer.
What I need is something completely collectable, something inexpensive to buy, something of little total value to cause a disposal problem for my heirs ... who might actually become interested in continuation of the collection.
Think about it! Separate years ... separate countries ... even separate seasons! Such joy and satisfaction in completing each small segment of the total year's output ... and then on to the next year!
For all I know such an Album may already exist. If not, then I need lots of advice.
What pages to buy ... what Album to buy ...
Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Not so sure about that inexpensive part.Seems almost every country gets in on the act and lots of S/S sheets.I can think of a couple Canada that had high face value and the last olympics had like three different S/S each more than couple bucks each.If you would like one of my side collections I would be glad to find them a good home.If this interests you P.M. me.

Much thanks for your offer, but I think I'll go with the World Wide Olympics.
I'm not rich by any means, but Social Security and a couple of pensions gives me enough disposable income to be able to accept face value and sheets.
I have a very disciplined approach, and will mow 'em down ... stamp by stamp ... country by country ... Olympic year by year ... until I or they are gone!

Good Luck friend. My suggestion then would be to search for a already started collection it's a great way to get a head start and moving on down the road. One of my saved searches is stockbooks,I often see themed collections up for auction.

In just the last few days, I've purchased stamps from almost all the countries participating in the 2016 Olympics ... with some major countries not having any stamps as yet.
I can't create all the Album pages until my entire 2016 collection is finalized, so I've ordered a 64 black page Linder hinge less stock book to house the stamps and souvenir sheets that have been ordered.
As a final version, I'll probably wind up with a 3 ring Album binder for each Olympic year. I'll do each country as a separate section, even though some countries have only one stamp. With loose leaf sheets, I can also be capable of having a display of a group of Olympic years from one country, if I so desired!
I can actually start now creating album sheets for those countries with stamps and/or sheets that will fit on one page. Done several already, and here's a small sample.

carlberkyThe last U.S. stamp issued for an Olympics was released in 2010 (not counting the 2015 Special Olympics World Games stamp). How many countries issued stamps to mark the 2016 Olympics in Rio?

I've purchased stamps from 70 countries, but haven't come across any from argentina, canada, cuba, france, french colonies, japan, russia and turkey.
Obviously I got carried away with all the very low prices ... many less then the shipping. The good thing is that I won't have to buy any more for a couple of months, and I can concentrate on the Album.

Been getting stamps from all over the world as I build the Album for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Don't know if there is any interest in covers with recently issued foreign stamps, but I'm getting quite a few.
Perhaps sometime in the near future, I could offer all of the covers in a drawing, or what ever.
Here's an interesting tidbit ... I received two stamps from a country, and the dealer used one of them from his inventory as part of the postage!

Progress Report ...
With stamps and sheets from over 77 countries, I had to order a three inch binder for the current 105 pages.
Still expecting more from 7 countries recently 'discovered'.
In many cases the cost of postage charged has been greater then the cost of the stamps. Even so, the total cost has been over $1000 (including supplies) ... tapping my future budget for several months!
As some of you warned, the project has been much more than I expected ... but well worthwhile in the pleasure it has given me. Still a lot of work to be done. I'm planning to add wikipedia commentary for each country ... eventually.
Would like to show some examples here. If interested, I can post a scan of any country you would like to see ... if they have any. (None from US and Russia.)

The collection of 2016 Olympic stamps is complete.
The album has 241 stamps and sheets mounted on 128 pages, from 92 entities.
There were 207 participants in the Games, and I google searched every one for 2016 Olympic stamps. It was very surprising to find that some major participants in the Games, such as the US and Russia, did not issue stamps. Still to be done are an album cover sheet and a forward page.
This has been a fun project, time consuming, and more expensive then I expected, but totally worthwhile. The result is a unique, possibly one-of-a-kind album that I hope to exhibit some day.
