What I collect: The World...just printing and mounting as I go...call me crazy!

I was home ill today and had some correspondence with a gentleman on my Definitively Stamps Facebook page. As I post here I also post on my page as I am trying to create interesting content for the people who follow me. I normally don't get involved in trading or buying and selling transactions on my page but this gentleman posted a page full of the earlier Hermes Heads from Greece and I started asking him what he wanted for them. He wants to exchange but for really early US and Australia. Basically US from 1847 to 1919 and Australia Kangaroos and King George issues. I have US from that time period but it is uncatalogued and I really don't know what I have. I can tell you right now, however, that I have nothing this gentleman will want to trade for considering the Hermes Heads he offered were of the earliest series and very expensive.
Later, he also offered up PRC...the time period from the 1950s and 60s that has some really expensive stamps. They were honestly beautiful and I would love to have them but they are way out of my league and I have nothing to offer in exchange of equivalent value.
This was all fine, and I finally told him that I did not have what he was looking for and he backed off. My vent, however, about the whole thing was that he was so rude about it, speaking in one word sentences and demanding photos. Not a pleasant conversation. When people behave that way it makes me wonder about their honesty. Those Chinese stamps were some of the most sought after stamps for a PRC collection. If I had had equivalent items, I wonder if I really would have received them.

darkormex: He sounds like a scammer if you ask me. Coming off like that & showing the most expensive stamps. I'd just ignore someone like that. I don't have to anyway, since FB is not a site I subscribe to!

today continuing to look through recent acquisitions and work on some things to send off. As to FaceBook, I myself have backed away from it as I found myself spending too much time and getting sucked into pointless discussions/debates. Stamping is much more production and TSF, a quick scan show's me what's new and some topics I chime in on, and others that I know nothing about (or are outside my interest area) I simply view and move on.
And NOBODY gets political! (same reason I play golf)

I don't have to anyway, since FB is not a site I subscribe to! I was considering blocking him from my page but held off. I doubt he will approach me again for trades as I basically told him I collect the cheap stuff. I collect because I enjoy collecting, not investing.

I think you did the right thing darkormex. I really enjoy your posts here. I read the with big interest. Congratulations with your post 500. I'm also at fb, but use it only as a place where I get stamp info and cycling info. And there is some good Norwegian stamp groups to sell/bay stamps. @brigtonpete congratulations with your son to come post 2000, wow... I'm soon at post 1000 and have also been thinking of a free geive away. Yesterday I was at my local stamp club. I sold a spare US collection (ca $100) and bougt some other stuff, Luxembourg, and a old small Comet world stamp album popped with stamps + some other stuff. Paid ca $21 so it was a good day except for that I have made me a promise that I don't need to bay more stamps..... well..... 🤣

Again, another thread about unpleasant interactions on other Forums - Makes me appreciate The Stamp Forum SO MUCH! Here we have camaraderie, shared knowledge, enthusiasm, generosity and a heck of a lot of fun.
As to the original topic - Whatcha been stamping? - I had time to stamp! Woohoo! Yesterday I put my Germany Federal Republic commemorative issues on 104 cards and started uploading to Colnect, will try to finish those today. It takes time to organize and prep all these collections to trade, but once I get done I’m going to have a LOT of fun swapping! ( FYI - I plan to give The Stamp Forum friends dibs.) I posted a big disclaimer on my Colnect profile saying I’m not ready to start trading yet, but I must have lots of stuff people want because I’m getting many requests to trade. I send them all a response asking that they check back in a few months and then add them as a friend.
Today the contractors are here so I might evacuate myself and the dogs to the kitchen and soak stamps. I have kiloware that has patiently waited to be soaked for ages, so I’m using construction days to try to clear the backlog.

I spent more time adding stamps to Stamp Manage but not much else. Sarawak is now complete! The goal is to create want and trade lists. It has been a busy week at work with night calls with Asia so not in the mood to start much.

Today I am going through an album of Isle of Man on White Ace pages that was given to me by a friend. There is a mixture of used and mint on the pages which go to 1995 as well as newer used issues in stock pages. The most interesting stamps is the complete set of the first postage due stamps of 1973 which are imprinted "1973' as opposed to the second set which is imprinted "1973A". I plan on trading the duplicates to my trading partners when I am done.

not too stampy today- received a reference book on Belgium railway parcel post cancellations and also a CD from J&H Books of the "Line engraved Postage Stamps of GB printed by Perkins & Bacon & Co, covering the early QV stamps until about the end of the peny reds. A quick glance seems like a pretty in depth historical perspective. Whether it aides e in identifying plates in the earliest stamps I'm not sure, but an awful lot of imformation

Does anyone else feel like they have an overwhelming amount of stamps? I think of myself as fairly organized, or at least trying to be organized but I still work all day every day and I don't have time to organize my stamps as I should. 9 years to retirement!

absolutely- I keep sorting and organizing and giving away or selling and it is still a small light at the end of a long tunnel
of course if I stopped "picking" up small collections, small lots and even singles it would probably be helpful, but at least with acquisitions I'm fairly focused on what i am looking for and after a year + back into the hobby I've become a much better observer when it comes to looking at offerings, whereas a year ago i watched everything, made a few bad buys, simply because I didn't see/notice.
Still, it is the constant flow of new material that somewhat guides my next move (pages to be developed) as that is ultimately what allows me to divest of the excess, once I have the pages printed and stamps mounted, one final look at the extras, and then they can go away. And as some may have noticed, I like having large study lots!

Each one of the 25 stamps in this sheet is a different stamp because each penny black has different letters in the blocks at the bottom indicating which row and which column it is in.

At least it did in my case. Over the last two years or so since retirement, I’ve accumulated God knows how many stamps thinking that, now that I’m retired, I’ll have all the time in the world to work on them. Yes, I have more time to work on my stamps, but with the number that I’ve accumulated and continue to accumulate, I didn’t really retire...I merely went from one full time job to another.

I haven't done any stamping this week at all. In fact, I have about 5 envelopes of stamps I have received that I haven't even opened yet. Waiting for Friday, when I am sitting here doing nothing all day. I did spend about 2 hours looking for a Vario sheet that is full of Germany stamps, that I am going to send to someone, but I can't find the sheet. I just filled it about 2 weeks ago, this is ridiculous! I hope I find it soon, or I will have to go through all my stamps again to fill another sheet.

Does anyone else feel like they have an overwhelming amount of stamps? I think of myself as fairly organized, or at least trying to be organized but I still work all day every day and I don't have time to organize my stamps as I should. 9 years to retirement! I know the feeling! But it sure feels good to retire and dig in. I’ve resolved to FINALLY cut back to fewer countries and organize all of the rest to trade, gift or sell I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made since I returned to stamping six months ago, but still a ways to go. I’m putting everything that is leaving on 104 cards then uploading to Colnect. I then take all the odds and ends and make trade lots for my website. I think I have about 300 lots made up so far (my The Stamp Forum buddies will get dibs on those when I’m ready to trade, promise!). Australia is all done - that was a HUGE collection and took days and days to do. I’m halfway on Germany and started on the UN yesterday - finished the Vienna issues. And making good progress on the soaking. Once I finish prepping all the countries I’m pruning, then I’ll go back and do the duplicates for the countries I’m keeping. Ireland will be the very last - that’s a very long term project. Still debating about whether to keep or drop New Zealand. I cut USA back to just one used single of each issue. I’m concerned with reducing the PHYSICAL size of my collection, too, so I’ll try moving large items first (covers, souvenir sheets, booklets etc). And I’m STILL buying collections here and there, so it is two steps forward and one step back BUT LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

darkormex Indeed, too much! And despite all wise intentions to buy less and organize what is already accumulated, it seems impossible not to buy more. Are we all addicts? coastwatcher Haha, funny! Do you get payed for overtime in your new "job"? Can't wait to change job myself - I will be my "new boss"'s most enthusiastic employee - might even consider to work overtime and weekends for free
