Not much stamping going on here this weekend. My stamps will have to wait for a few days - we have another hurricane, Isiais? Iaisais? Isaias? (what a name!) rolling towards us so the next week will be pulling everything IN the house then taking it back OUT of the house. Ugh! But beats shoveling snow and falling on ice. Anyways, if you are also in Florida or on the east coast, hope for this storm to veer off into the Atlantic where cooler waters prevail, BUT not so far that poor lil Bermuda is in it's path, eh?
But what stamping time I have had has (three to have verbs in a row! wicked English!) been trades and dreaming up new wacky, crazy ideas for The Stamp Forum. LOL. That's why stamps are so good for me - keeps my mischievous mind out of trouble! If any of you have any Bermuda, I'm offering 4:1 for them on my post on the trading page here - I'm looking for cancels so any quantity of duplicates are welcome.

So, along with making pages for Hungarian revenues, I took some time to make spine labels for albums that I've created over the past 6 months or so.
Another task that needs attention every once in a while is soaking/sorting. Today was a good day for that since it has been raining out. A little kitchen table philately while I am off work. It seems just about every estate sale stamp collection I find locally has been stored badly, so there are always a number of stamps in "chunks", that are stuck together, mostly from their own adhesives. Sometimes they are stock together by old hinges as well and they usually make for a nice solid mass of stamps. I save these in a cigar box until I can get around to soaking them apart. That was my job today. Probably about 500 or so stamps, mostly common items so I didn't even care if I soaked the gum off. At least I was able to save the stamp......at least most of them.

Richard To tell you the truth - I have never soaked stamps.......in my life .....reason: I have never had a reason to do so, btw* - I need inspiration (or not) - appreciate your posts. btw* (acronym= by the way)and I hate acronyms, as a french Canadian (outside Quebec) - I did use them once in a while during my practice but .... How on earth have you managed that? It seems soaking stamps is one of my earliest stamp collecting memories, almost 50 years ago. I've always had piles of on paper kiloware accumulating to some degree. In fact I am still working on a batch I bought in the 1970's.

Saving stamps off the mail is how we all started collecting and 60++ years later I still do it Or do you never get any mail ?........if that is so I can only commiserate (Memo to self Send Rene a postcard with a stamp on it !)

vikingeck and spain1850 Never bought (neither did my late dad) kiloware - that is the reason. I have removed numerous stamps with stamplift but did not know that could be "soaking" (or it may not be) Stamps on my favorites envelopes received (you call mail) are collected as is - I do not remove the stamps. I also might have put some stamps on paper ( lesss than 10) in water but that is not soaking for me Please do not send me a Postcard to remove the stamp - you are too generous !! René

I just soaked ONE stamp yesterday. A German commemorative from 1996 1995 honouring Röntgen, that was mysteriously left on piece. Oh the horror!
I am now into 1996, carrying on until 1999 or 2000 for the commemoratives. I stopped at 1990 for the semi-postals.
Almost done!
Looking at my binder, I'll need another one. Making it four binders housing my collection. My brother would probably look at it with $ signs thinking, "Wow!" But of course we all know better!

Stampin’ on trades today while sitting at my desk watching the outer bands of Isaias go by. Received two trades from the USA within the normal delivery window and a packet from Germany that was postmarked July 19 arrived, too. That’s a big improvement from the two month delays we were seeing. I picked up a nice envelope of Ireland from my desk that was received in a trade and they slid out of the envelope landing on the floor, in a drawer and 30 or so landed smack dab in my nice fresh cup of coffee! LoL So I had to give them an unexpected bath. Haha! So be careful, renden, Rene, you never know what will happen - you might end up having to soak stamps for the first time ever!

philatelia - Theresa !!...funny !! You read my last explanation too fast - I mostly do them 1-4 at a time in my stamplift.....another way to do the job and I have soaked many years ago, so many I did not remember ...............Hope the Hurricane does not do too much damage - watching its evolution.... After a long week of work (month end close), and Isaias arriving tomorrow morning here ( philatelia , the leaves on the trees are moving just a little bit), I took the time and updated values for a few countries with the new Scott values. So far today: Iceland, Hong Kong, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. I will be entering remarks for each in their respective threads, but RED was the color of the day.
One silver lining in going through this exercise is it gives me the chance to see what items I don't have and make plans to fill a few holes (hopefully at lower prices).
UPDATE: I actually did purchase a Hong Kong Scott 485a, Year of the Rabbit MNH sheet and a few other items from a HipStamp seller, willydog (he's selling at 25% Scott!!)

today was house duties, replace a water saver toilet (that has to be flushed multiple times) with a single flush.... It seemed like a good idea when we originally bought it.
Had to inspect the bee hive... yep, they're busy as ..well bees. Didn't get too loud with me taking the top of the hive off, and then we canned more tomato sauce and juice, which will likely continue for another month to 6 weeks, then it will be time to start thinking about winter/fall plantings. Got more blackberry jam put up yesterday. Pickling beets and peppers (and drying the cayenne, chile and seranos) probably mid to late march.
harvest honey in late September -a several day task
Each year gets a bit longer to get things done
and scan Bavarian coat of arms sheet and posting this sums up my stamp activities today.
To all on the southern/eastern coast, I hope the hurricane is more bark than bite! Stay safe

It has been a bit of Philatelic housekeeping this weekend , blowing the dust off some unwanted duplicates, arranging some prettily on stock cards to scan for a give away in a couple of days ( keep an eye out for Bulgaria, India, Montenegro, and some other bits making my desk untidy) I was alerted by member stanley64 to some genuine Samoa express on auction in UK. I Banged in £800: $1000 bid and failed altogether on 4 lots😟 Elsewhere I went against my principles, “never waste money on a damaged stamp” “ torn stamps should be binned” “removed from the Philatelic Market” and Actually bought a 2/- Express in filthy ,torn condition for £3.75 against a catalogue value of £250 . It happens to be the space filler I need to complete plating a small mini sheet row 1. #1 . So much for intentions of purity. Even I admit to inconsistency on occasion! When it arrives it will get a good bath in hot water , perhaps a dash of washing up liquid or soap flakes, and the cut tear closed and carefully repaired BY the way it is meant to be imperf on top and left side .......if it had perfs all round it would be a reprint or a forgery ! (there are other miniscule indicators of genuine which confirms State II Scott 7a or SG8 position 1/1)

Well, I just went through the distasteful task of having to re-do a bunch of pages in my Bolivia album. After finding out I mislabeled the page of cancels I posted in the Bolivia section, I decided to check other pages and found out that ALL of the Bolivia pages I made with AlbumEasy were mislabeled. Weird part is that after I pulled my file up to fix them I found that they were actually correct, so I don't know what happened. I really need to pay more attention to what prints BEFORE I hit the print album.
On the plus side, I was able to save, and reuse all of the mounts from the bad pages..........I'm kind of cheap that way.

I have drawer full of printed pages that I had to reprint due to some error. I keep them for scrap use such as stamp tags for Vario pages. Once in a while I do not reprint but I will correct master in case I do print again,.

A few stamps, but a lot of stuff that just collects on it. Continuing on with Germany album pages, now on 1997. I did say I was slow doing this! I do it all at once and then it'll be done. Then what'll I do?

Not much stamping lately. Summer season and covid, keep street markets and brick & mortar shops (my main suppliers) closed. Nevertheless I've been able to buy three Swiss covers on e-bay (two, already shown on TSF) and some used Switzerland and Scandinavian stamps on Stamporama. Just, something to keep me bussy on this strange summer. So far, no travels abroad, just a 5 days trip around Catalonia. Nice, but too short and predictable.

I have been on somewhat of a cheap Chile eBay buying binge over the last several days. My focus has been on those wonderful airmail stamps but I am also wanting to obtain more of the 40s, 50s, 60s Chilean stamps in general so I am buying inexpensive lots of 100+. I suspect some of the dupes might end up in my 1000 posts giveaway.

Well, Peter, if you are looking for something to do, perhaps the Africa lot that you won in the auction can be your next project.... As for me, I packaged up the two TSF 50/50 Auction lots for Peter and David ( dgdecker ) and took them to the PO and sent them. I learned the lesson that thickness of the packet makes a big difference in postage. I will work to spread out the stamps within the packets on future shipments to keep the costs down. Xavier ( hrdoktorx ) is on vacation for the next 2 weeks, and he asked me to wait to send his until after he returns. I have also been working on preparing more lots for the next round of TSF 50/50 Auctions, and those are coming along. I have a bunch of MNH complete sets from British Commonwealth countries from the late 1980s to early 1990s from interesting places like Norfolk Island, Pitcairn Islands, St. Helena, Tuvalu, Fiji, and Gibraltar. I also have some nice Cyprus and Greece that I will put into a lot, too. Once I get through that, hopefully there will still be some time left for me to work on my own stamps.... there are some great old Hong Kong sent to me by LB1 ( Londonbus1 ) that I am dying to find the time to go through and integrate into my collection. Stay stampy, all!

I've been using spare time the last couple weeks sorting through and mounting several auction lots of Colombian stamps. Got quite a bit in earlier this week while recovering from a respiratory virus (not Covid). I have just a few more stock sheets to glean for space fillers, then I can enter them into an Excel catalog and see what I've got. Our new PMG is really lousing things up; it's taking six+ days for a three-day Priority Mail package to get to me in Upstate NY from Downstate NY.

Now that I have ample numbers of manila stock pages, I am removing Romania stamps from a collection on pages I had bought now close to two years ago and the old Harris album I bought a year ago. Hoping to go back to work on Romanian stamps of the 1940s and 50s.

Took a road trip, with the wife, over the weekend doing some antiquing with the hopes of finding SOMETHING philatelic. Came home empty handed. Other than that, still sorting out Bulgaria. I think I'm going to have a tentative cutoff of 1959, since that is where the 2nd Steiner file ends. Also, I've got Bulgarian stamps coming out my ears so, I think by the time I've gotten everything sorted and mounted to 1959, I'll be ready for something different.

Am studying the history of French Africa (in stamps) and have identified a stamp for each Country or "Protectorate" - french text as I plan to translate only the Country/Proctectorate - my texts are going to be in "french" - have not decided if I will translate or not - The album is going to be for me anyways
