I've spent what little spare time I had this last week moving my identified Belgian stamps from a variety of sheets and stock books to a vario page Lighthouse album, by year. So far up to 1910, but it's slow going as I'm re-checking the original identifications for variants as I go.

Here is another conundrum... Steiner has placed the 1980 Windmills stamps in 1978. Why would they do that? Ah, looking at the Scott Catalogue, I couldn't find the windmills issue. What's going on here. Aha, Scott's put a 1980 series in 1978. This is at least the 2nd time I have seen misplaced stamps out of chronological order.
Why is 1980 misplaced in 1978? Stampworld dot com gets it, why doesn't Steiner or Scott get it?
since I mess around with Steiner pages, it isn't a big deal to me, just wondering!

I have seen Steiner move some sets around just to balance pages and sometimes I have seen a page in the wrong position.

In all of August I have acquired the grand total of two , yes that's right , TWO !, stamps.
An unused no gum Samoa Express 1penny from 1881, and Monaco #1 fine used from 1885 well centred, and this involves creating a new page for the Monaco as I hope to get the whole 1885 series, and rewriting a page of Samoa as two pages due to different perforations in this issue . Monaco sorted now tackling the Samoa!

I haven't been stampin' much the last couple of days, or at least since the last time I posted and part of the reason for that is that my chromebook is dying. I am using my wife's as she has gone to bed but, until my new one arrives, I will be on the forum on a limited basis. Hopefully I will have the new in hand and up and running next week as I ordered it tonight.

Not much stamping this week - busy with the house. BUT I did get a few more trades done and started prepping a few others. And my Michel’s arrived!
For the first time I participated in a live online auction - Sparks Auctions. That was fun!
I enjoyed reading all the posts from the worldwide collectors explaining how they manage such extensive areas. I have been leaning towards cutting back a bit, so I’m going to cut a few more countries. First Hawaii - too expensive and I’m not that interested in the stamps. Next - Isle of Man, Calf of Man & Lundy. Again, for some reason I can’t seem to get enthusiastic about those and I’m not sure why. But I do have fun with Guernsey, Alderney, Herm & Jersey, Canada & Provinces, Bermuda and the Leeward / Virgin Islands which are the only British areas that I collect.
I’ll be back to post last call for the giveaways soon.
Back to work! My glamorous job today is scrubbing goo off the tiles from where the paper runners were taped down. Half done and oh what fun! LoL

Just finished putting in the last of my purchases from Londonbus1. I had saved the most challenging for last, three stock cards of British Morocco Agencies stamps. Lots of identification fun! But now a much more solid pair of stockbook pages. So I'm very happy with what I got! I can now move on to what else arrived in the last few days, the set of French 2020 "Trésors de la Philatélie" blocks (expect posts for these) and the Q3 2020 new German issues.

For the first time I participated in a live online auction - Sparks Auctions. That was fun! Hi, Terri: Very nice of you to comment about the WW collectors' remarks, and I just want to say that I admire your decisions! I am trying to do more of the same, so perhaps you can show me the way.... Please, do tell more about the live online auction: how was that? Did you win anything? How was the experience? Prior to COVID-19 days, we used to have in-person live stamp auctions here in Oxford every month, but those haven't happened for some time now. I miss those, but I know under the current conditions, it is the right move not to have them. Anyway, would love to hear more about your experience! Thanks, Chris

I am working in Belgium tonight. I am still without a laptop and suffering a little bit because I find it annoying to use my phone to interact with y’all online.
Anyway...I am in early Belgium late 1800s.

Today after removing all but the peppers in the summer garden and waiting for my garlic sets to arrive, I worked on more pages for France and decided to go through some loose stamps I purchased a while back (large lot, sent in legal envelopes.... mostly 1930's forward to late 1950's) thinking/hoping I might find some 1944-45 Roosters/Marianne to fill a few spots. I thought I had looked through them all, ( the seller sent the stamps in 6 or 7 legal envelopes full...) but I did discover an unopened envelope labeled 'loose Italy.' Maybe it was a bonus ... or a mistake as I don't remember buying any such thing... so several hours sorting into Varios some fairly early stamps, and a couple I did not have... but largely dupes
so now back to France!
Even though still warm, the smoke from the fires has subsided for the time being and tomorrow will be a clear/sunny/warm day (97F) to chase a little white dimpled ball around the golf course!

I will start off my post for today with a couple of questions/comments: First, Terri ( philatelia), would still really like to hear more about your online auction experience you previously mentioned.... can you elaborate? Second, Stan ( stainlessb), your latest post led me to do a search for "garlic set". Never heard those two words together before. I see from my search that it seems to be some sort of a kit that is used for planting garlic, is that right? Interesting! OK, on to stamping! Not too much to report, as yesterday was spent mainly in non-stamp related activities. I only did three small, stampy things: - Put together a trade packet for katie333, with a special surprise that I hope she will like
- Scanned all my re-arranged stock pages for Denmark with Morten's (classicalstamps) giveaway additions
- Did a little bit (but not enough) tidying up of my stamp area, which has been a bit of a perpetual mess lately
So, today I will try to continue with the organizing and tidying up and make some posts of the scans in a Denmark thread. Kate's packet will go to the Post Office on Monday. I may also do a bit more soaking today of some odds and ends that need a bath. There are also some COGH triangle auctions on eBay that I am monitoring just to see if I can pick up a bargain or two. One dealer posted over 70 lots of triangles about a week ago, so those will be wrapping up shortly. We shall see. Stay stampy, all!

I finished up mounting all the Cayman Island stamps I purchased yesterday. Unlike other similar islands, the subject matter tended to be more conservative in the 80s. I added 203 stamps to 55 different pages including one custom page I created. As a result I had to move a couple countries to another binder. This means my page is over 2900 pages in 155 entities (using Scott's definition).

Beryllium Guy Garlic sets is just a specific variety (or in my case varieties) of organic garlic I will break up and plant. I have replanted from my own harvest and even just gone to grocery store and bought garlic in the produce section, but I seem to have better luck (larger heads) by purchasing the "garlic sets" which are grown for replanting (though you could use it in cooking) I wish the mailman would come through here soon with a delivery to you!

Chris the word “set” in horticulture , used also for onions simply means the immature little bulb that is planted to grow and swell to full size bulb. Being a vegetative offshoot of an older bulb it is genetically consistent and crops more reliably and of course much sooner than onion or garlic grown from seed

Thanks, Stan ( stainlessb) and Alex ( vikingeck) for the explanations about the "sets" when it comes to gardening. I am actually familiar with the concept, as my mother used to buy something similar when I was young, I think, but I just don't recall ever hearing the term "sets". Always something to learn around here!

Beryllium Guy sorry I didn’t answer your query about online bidding sooner - been very very busy. There really isn’t much to tell. The auction at Sparks live streamed audio of the bidding- you simply click on a link to listen and bid if you want to bid. You can find more info at the Stamp Auction Network about upcoming auctions. I have been doing some deep thinking about my stamp collection. In dealing with my mother's estate, she had many nice things that I might have wanted, but I realized that just selecting a few keepsakes is all I really have room for in my life right now. I also realized that my stamp collection has gotten too big and complex for my own good. My goal is to eventually just collect US, Canal Zone and Panama. I have decided that I am at this time loathe to part with a few other country collections such as Great Britain, Australia, Canada and perhaps Mexico. I will still maintain my interest in the postal history of my three main countries. I still love looking at and studying stamps and postal history from around the world.

Much of my stampin time goes to work on Colnect, as Stamp Coordinator I am basically the "General Editor" of the stamps catalog there, so always lots to do to correct listings, add new items submitted from contributors (Colnect works on a Wiki principle, so there are still many gaps in the listings for many countries, even with over 935,000 items listed!) and adding new issues from around the world. But I do try to work on my collections here and there, and recently finished making page inserts for my Norfolk Island collection (I use Vario stockpages and binders to house my collections, so to help me lay out the pages and provide catalog information I make "inserts" that I put in between the Vario pages)
(Edit - would post image but apparently I am too new to be able to post images.)

As some might have noticed I've been inactive for some weeks, too busy with life in general. But autumn and rainy days are coming (at last!), so I intend to pick up the thongs more often from now on. Last week I utilized two rainy days to move modern Ireland (1970-) from stockbook to Vario pages. Earlier Irish stamps are already mounted on very nice custom pages made by tobben63. Tomorrow I will continue working on Mauritius, after a few months standstill...
