I recently purchased a lot of over 10,000 precancel stamps. I'm slowly chipping away at sorting them by state and then will organize further to add those that I don't have into albums, and separate out duplicates that can be traded. This will keep me busy the rest of my life.

Slowly going through some of my hordes and pulling out clear date cancels. Re-organized my home office and found a ton of stuff that I had squirrelled away over the pandemic.

Decided my next project will be a remounting of a Seychelles collection. A while back I won some country collections from an online auction, all on Steiner pages. I thought that was great, until I got them and found that the pages didn't fit in with what I was building. The paper was thicker than what I use, the wrong color and the printing was a tad bit small. Also, everything was hinged, so I've been slowly taking each country and printing new pages, removing stamps and remounting them to fit my system. There aren't many stamps in this Seychelles collection, so it should be a fairly quick change over, even adding to it from my own stock. Here are some I have rearranged today so they look presentable

Been busy buying bits and bobs, here and there, to fill in a few gaps, writing some and reading my share of newsletters / journals as the quarterly efforts of my fellow philatelists have been arriving in my inbox and postbox. With the wet weather outside lately, time well spent, I say :-) What has taken much of my time though, is with this set of stationery catalogues out of print,
I have been scouring old auction catalogues and on-line resources to create my own reference and checklist for the Portuguese and overseas territories postal stationery,
Starting a new venture, one needs to know what is available and set the goals… Have fun and happy collecting!!
P.S. If anyone has or finds the catalogues shown, send me a note.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I woke up this morning to discover I had made a sale of 1.99 on eBay for two South Africa TB seals. With this new found wealth I felt bullish so I spent a few hours this afternoon reviewing auction catalogues. 15 bids were placed in total between Bow City and Vance Auctions.

Quiet Weekend Working on the NewsletterGreetings, all: I hope this post finds all of you doing well. I have been busy this past week with both work and stamp-related activities. Here is a quick list of the stamp stuff: - Organized return for misdescribed eBay lot
- Sent a gift packet to an unsuspecting member(!)
- Reviewed draft article written by capejack for submission to CNPJ
- Sorted and organized Republic of China stamps (1950s-60s era) in prep for trading
- Soaked a couple of batches of odds and ends on Friday afternoon
I spent several hours this morning and early afternoon working on the TSF Newsletter, V8.3. I have one major article now fully laid out, and it looks great! I will get to work on the others tomorrow. I have also started to lay out the images for the cover. We are leaving shortly to go out for the evening to listen to an Irish music concert, which seems a fitting way to spend St. Patrick's Day eve! Stay St. Patrick stampy, all!

Been condensing some of the albums to take more stamps and covers to the Fair (Bourse) on Tuesday. Almost ready, just a bit more pricing to do and then a couple of decisions to make whether to take items not in the selling plan. The suitcase and bags are half-packed !!! I managed to free a few old binders which went to the re-cycle bin. Also, I re-packed 3 'sold' lots from late September which were returned because of the war. A diplomat friend is coming to the British Embassy and the Consulate in East Jerusalem for a day, so we will meet and he will post those packets when he returns to London. I hope it won't be long before I can get all my 'purchases' that are left hanging in all corners of the world because of this conflict. Londonbus1 We have just finished transferring the stamp albums to new ones (just the cheap ones) as most of the others were in a dreadful state and had lots of foxing. We now have a box full of fairly good ones which eventually we will take to the car boot sale. We have used all black ones as could not afford to get good ones for the amount of albums. We bought a bookcase so hubby could get to them easily. Wow need bookends to keep them straight.

Here is a pro tip for soakers. You do not need to try to soak stamped envelopes! The stamp image does not come off. (I obviously did not go through the pile of stamps on paper when tossed them in the bowl).

Actually, Al ( angore), unless I am mistaken, based on the appearance of only a partial postmark and plenty of white space, it looks like there were stamps on that piece of postal stationery that have now been soaked off.... Perhaps you mean that they were already soaked off on another occasion?

You are probably right. If there were stamps, they came off in the soak. Many stamps had already separated from the paper when I pulled to dry them. I did find a UN stamp.

I've been trying to finish up with my Japan, but haven't had as much time as I would like to complete it. At this point I'm trying to get the stock sheets in order and then I'll put together a giveaway (hopefully before the end of the month).

Before starting to pick through the Statesman world wide album I went through a US and Canada album. I did not find much of consequence in either album. They both went up to 1989 and had mostly used stamps from 1940 onward with very few earlier classics. They were nice clean albums with a few hundred stamps in each so I decided to list them at 25.00 each on Facebook Market place as great starter albums that some young collector would enjoy. They have both sold in the last few days at the asking price. The surprising thing was the buyers. One should not judge a book by the cover. Both buyers were rather scruffy looking guys in their 40's with one being loaded with piercings and tattoos. Neither looked like someone I would peg as a philatelist. I was glad to see both albums find a new home.

I was working on Canada. I modified one Steiner page to add spaces for singles of the 1987 CAPEX S/S along with cat and page numbers. After posting I noticed I made an error but will not fix it. Any Canada stamps after 1993 go on Vario pages.

Whatcha been stampin’? Me - I usually package and ship on Wednesdays, but all of my buyers except one paid ASAP yesterday so I was able to get everything shipped within 4 hours of the auctions closing! My best time ever. So that means I freed up this morning to have fun puttering on my collection. So I’m happily sorting through Austrian Empire issues, perfing and identifying and culling duplicates. Up next is this page of 1916/1919 Coat of Arms. There are size, color, paper and even a few perforation varieties not to mention cancels so it’s a fun issue for exercising those philatelic muscles. Sure wish I had a pile of those elusive 10 Kroner violets though. Wouldn’t that be awesome? A girl can dream, eh? Fingers crossed that I find an elusive variety. Happy stamping my friends!

Still on Indonesia. Finished inventorying them in StampManage then merged 4 Steiner PDFs (pre-50, 60, 70, 80) and re-arranged in Scott catalog page order. Adding page numbers to pages to be printed is next. I have one page in Netherlands Indies to mount as well.

Stampy Saturday, HopefullyHello, everyone! I hope all are doing well (or at least as well as can be). I am finally catching my breath this morning after a busy week at work and with some stamp trading activities. I have managed to get a few things done recently: - TSF Newsletter, V8.3 is now fully laid out (!) and in final review/ editing.
- Finished going through an extensive early Angola trade lot (see photo of acquisitions below).
- Put away some 1940s-1950s China and Republic of China (Taiwan) trading stock after soaking.
- Went to the PO and sent off one batch of trade lots to my partner.
- Scanned more country headers from an old 1901-1910 era stamp album (I reprint these for my own use).
Today, I need to tidy up some odds and ends still hanging around the desk, and I will need to soak some of the Angola shown below. These all came out of an old, mounted collection, so lots of hinge remnants in the bunch. I should also mention that thanks to Vince ( stanley64) and his helpful posts about the Cape Verde Ceres forgery I traded him, I checked the Angola Ceres stamps shown below for forgeries. The 10E value looked good to me, so I took it in trade. I also examined the early Portuguese Crown issues, and those checked out, too! It was a happy day that I didn't find any obvious forgeries in there. Stay genuine stampy, all! Note: some stamps are upside down simply to differentiate them as ones I already had when accounting for which ones I took in the trade!

Hey marbles , I know it is a week late to compliment you, but those George V Seychelles are really nice . It was the fashion in those days to mount even the newest mint stamps with hinges, so the Gibbons catalogue for Geo V assumes they will have been hinged in the past . There can be a big premium if any are MINT NEVER HINGED. (MNH) Do check , especially the 5 Rupee what you have on these two pages catalogues £200-£300 what would be marvellous bonus with the Edward Vii would be any that have the dented frame variety. (Probably unlikely but any of the variety bump up to between £150 and £££ depends on which value . the error only occurs once on any sheet

on Tuesday I made a 250 mile round trip to the Royal Mail postmark centre in Edinburgh to get a special cancel we produced ( with the help of Beryllium Guy) for the cover I designed as Host Society of the Scottish Philatelic Congress 2024 in April. The covers duly cancelled arrived yesterday. As Hosts one of our responsibilities is to provide a cover and handstamp at the event. It is customary to link some anniversary or event with connection to the Host city. Aberdeen is a seaport and has had a lifeboat since 1820. This year is the 200th anniversary of the charity, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, RNLI, which controls our lifeboats and rescue at sea ( not a Government service and quite separate from Coast guard which handles smuggling and border control) “Bon Accord” or Good Fellowship is the motto of our city and the name of our boat. The Admiralty chart shows the section of the North Sea off our corner of Scotland..Aberdeen is the grey smudge on the map 1cm up from the lower edge contemporary with the 1820 lifeboat was the early post office in the arches of the city Mercat Cross , which we depict in our club logo. with some struggle for the past months I have been buying at best price on eBay, the appropriate 1st class stamp from 2008, which is still valid at the new postal rate and which has an illustration of another lifeboat of the same Severn class as our Bon Accord. as close to a Maxicover as I can get dorincard 😎

Philatelic reading of a backlog of Linn's and Gibbons Stamp Monthly. My new Samsung Android tablet has a larger (11-in) screen. I am at the point where reading on a tablet is more convenient than printed. I have a Kindle Unlimited account so been reading every day,

That has a hinge remainder bridging the stamp and selvedge. What I would expect from George V period album and in the condition allowed for to the catalogue pricing

Have been tied up at home more since the new year so its really pleasing to have a hobby that keeps me busy and that I can enjoy so much. These last few days I've been looking into the history of a particular stamp and how details of it became known and the various leaks of remainders that occurred in the 19th and early 20th centuries. As such I was interested in what appeared in the Philatelic press at the time. I found 2 magazines that have been digitised by the Smithsonian Library and that are available for viewing or download. 'The Philatelic Record' was published between 1879 and 1914 and 'The Stamp Collector's Magazine' was published between 1863 and 1874 both sets of which I have downloaded. For example: library.si.edu/digital-library/book/philatelic-record Like rod222 I love reading old stamp literature and these have been no exception. I found what I wanted plus many more interesting articles that appeared during my search including an excellent series of articles by 'Captain Evans' on the Stamps of Mauritius. Thank you for the link, reading the American Journal from 1860, a sales list 250 variety of stamps from the world 5$ and I think ok in Denmark we issuede our first stamp 1 april 1851, I would like to see 250 stamps of the world and buy it for 5$ Happy easter

I was trying to order a few Burgundy Lighthouse (Leuchtturm) Vario G binders but they are hard to find. I cannot even find the that color on the English website. I messaged my favorite supply dealer and they said they have been out of stock for some time and some possibly coming in a few months. I would not want to change colors at this point.

Having been spending a few hours a day picking through a big old world wide stock book the past week today's mail brought a nice change. These recent eBay finds are a rather different mix. The 2 5 shilling stamps fill holes in my Grenada and Falkland Islands collections. The 3 little revenue stamps fill holes as well and at a budget price because they were combined in the shipping with the better stamps. The Golden Anniversary of Flight was bought on a whim because the price was right and once again was added to the order. It is a fun addition to my Nova Scotia collection.
