I have been busy with the library and my stamp collection being on display there. Last week I did a program about stamp collecting to the adults. This week I will do a program about stamp collecting to the kids. After the kids program this week I will be able to bring my stamp collection home. I have also been real busy with life in general. Hopefully after next month I will be able to get back to my stamps a bit. I have stamps to put in my albums, stamps to do a giveaway and if I can remember where I put them stamps to sell. Happy stamping everyone, Carabop

Not bad days for stamping. Last Sunday, I went to the stamps market and picked a lot of good Iceland used stamps and a Swedish cinderella (already shown here), I got a generous gift od Swiss stamps from a friend here, that are already placed on the album. Yesterday, I went to the thrift shop for the first time since mid July, as it had been closed for the summer season until this week. There, I found "awaiting for me" a donation of two stamp stock books. One, was an old Soviet book, full of cto stamps of that country of late XX century. Not worth too much, but nevertheless nice. Somebody (a tourist, I guess!) will buy it. The other was a locally produced stock book, full of cuttlings of postmarks and slogan postmarks, without the stamps, plus a few commemorative covers and an interesting card (for some reasons) that I kept for myself and will show here later. I'm not yet sure on what to do with the cutllings, that don't have any commercial value at all. Perhaps, I'll try to sell them with the stock book, which is prety good. We'll see...

It seems I have been soaking Austria, mainly pre WWI for a while now. I decided this morning to do re-arranging and organizing and much to my semi-chagrinned surprise I found even more Austria that I had put aside to soak and forgot about (whether intentionally or not)...
I need to stay off the selling platforms that include stamps for awhile.
I suppose it is time to make more pages beyong Franz Joseph and get my best examples mounted so I know what I lack, and then decide what to do with the growing inventory of duplicates!

Haven't had time to do anything with stamps for a couple of months. Over the weekend, I grabbed some albums and started going through them and immediately got frustrated with Hipstamp. It's not really their fault, but I have maybe 10 stamps to finish off one of my U.S. albums and I wanted to do that. They're not expensive stamps, they're at the end of my U.S. collection, but I wanted to just get it out of the way. The problem is, I have no way of finding some dealer with all of the stamps so I don't get nickel and dimed to death with postage costs. I spent an hour or two going from dealer to dealer, trying to find someone who had all, or at least most, and ended up giving up. I'd find sellers that had 3-4 of them and then... no more. These aren't uncommon stamps or anything, but nobody had a large percentage of them.
So I gave up on U.S. and bought a ton of Norfolk Island. Someone had a "sale" going on and I just got on and bought everything that they had that I needed. They had a decent Ireland run, so I did the same for my wife's Ireland and ended up spending a couple hundred dollars. I've got to go look to see if it's been shipped now, they said 4-5 days, so it should be out tomorrow at the latest. I'll have to figure out what to do about my U.S. I really didn't want to stick a stamp on other purchases here and there but I might have to. It would be really handy if Hipstamp had a way to show you which stamps on your wantlist are available from the same dealer. Probably a lot of work, but it is what it is.

Cephus I have had some success in the past contacting sellers with 'want list' asking if they can offer, provide price, and if it looks doable, then a group scan of the stamps.Look through APS publication for sellers, check with a local club. A great many dealers would be quite happy to bypass E-Bay/Hip Stamp. The APS store might be a good start for US!

I hear you Cephus and can commiserate having spent more time than I care to admit looking for the final strip of my Tiffany Lamp collection as shared here.
As Stan ( stainlessb) suggested, contacting dealers with a want list can be a successful option. In my case, I was able to complete the series by contacting several of the dealers listed on the PNC3 website and found a dealer with the strip I needed. I did top-up the order with a few additional items to take advantage of the free shipping, but in the end, a 'win-win' situation.
Another alternative for those missing stamps is the smaller auction houses, they tend to have collections and lots that may contain the material you are looking. Again, minimal fuss, usually lower hammer fees and less time spent 'scrolling & clicking' looking for those elusive items.
It's the dealers / auction houses that complete the triad of philately, let us support them...
Have fun and happy collecting!

I appreciate the offers and all, but that doesn't solve the problem. I know it's probably too much to ask for Hipstamp to implement, but it doesn't make the problem go away.

The Houston stamp show is going well. The dollar cover boxes have been fruitful for me. Added 6 significant FDCs for my in-process Jefferson Credo exhibit. (Not dollar boxes!) Pics when I get home and recover. The 4 hour trip here felt like 6! I’ve been in my hotel room resting. Awards BBQ dinner banquet starts in a couple of hours.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Stamping has been pretty quiet for the last month for me other than reading posts on here. Any attempts at buying on eBay have been coming up short. The drought does appear over now on buying as the Vance Auction results are out and I was a bit too successful there. I see lots of rice and beans in my diet for the next month. I look forward to sharing some of the goodies when they arrive.

The next meeting of my local club is this Thursday and I remembered this evening that I had taken a binder from a dealer at the last meeting (rather reminiscent of the circuit books or approval services of my youth). The deal was I could take anything for 30% of Scott and the Canadian dollar would be taken at par with the US dollar prices in the catalogue. So, I settled in with some cool jazz and a Pepsi Zero to review the book and see what was there. It was BOB Italy ... all prior to 1960. Right away, I found a complete set of Italian military stamps. That was nice. And, one or two other very nice sets - like this one. Then the scary part began ... at some point in the past, someone started using Scotch Tape (the horror). I may rescue some of the stamps and give them a better home. Overall, it was fun. Just a nice lot of inexpensive stamps albeit nothing special. A couple of times I got excited thinking I found someting but it was always used when it should have been mint or mint when it should have been used. I was missing this one. So that's a plus. In the end, I bought a few things. I didn't want to return the binder without making a purchase. Dealers need to be encouraged (smile) ... I want more binders to take home (you never know). Keep stamping everyone.

Hugh , It's tough to see stamps taped like that. At my local club, a member brings in about 15 APS circuit books. Stamps are hinged or have inserts like the Italian stamps in your second picture. Even so, I have to be careful removing them. We have an auction tomorrow night, and this is when I usually get sidetracked from my topical stamps.

O'Canada... Whilst I may have been outbid on Lot 11: 1857 10p Blue on Thicker White Wove Paper (a showpiece of Canadian philately) in the upcoming Eastern Auctions Sale, "The Brigham Estate Province of Canada Part IV", I did manage to add to my collection of Dutch charity stamps with a purchase from Canada's Prime Minister if the seller's image is to be believed,

Last night I attended my local stamp club here in Edmonton. The presentation looked at some rare Newfoundland stamps forged by William B. Hale. The auction had many lots I was interested in but bids went beyond my limit. I did go home with one item won through the silent auction - a fairly new 16 page stock book. Perhaps it was a sign that I needed to work on all the stamps I already have and not add any more.

Hi everyone!
September has been a blur - busy busy! When I’ve had a minute to catch up here in the forum I’m blown away by all the new names - wow! The club is definitely thriving!
I lucked out today and won an auction for a super low price that should fill those last empty spaces in my Vatican collection! There are a few inexpensive but elusive varieties that may be in that album - fingers crossed! The toughest ones to find are a few perforation varieties and a type of postage dues, but I should have a mint and used copy of every MAJOR type up to 2010. This collection i won is supposed to have various covers included and you all know how I love classic covers! (See my signature below that shows up on every post). Anyhoo, I’ll be really looking forward to see what’s included.
I finished pruning duplicates from my modern Canada after 1970s and ended up with enough to make up about 20 full page auction lots. That was a surprise! I didn’t think I had so many duplicates. Next step is to go back and tidy up the earlier issues. I started after the issues with tagging varieties so I still need to tag a bunch of those 60s & 70s issues.
What have you been stamping lately? Would love to hear from ya! Happy stamping!

Sifting through 1000s and 1000s of Thailand office clippings in a big box of stuff given to the club for disposal last week. I've been turning up some odds and ends of other countries including about $50 of mint USA, mostly self adhesive sheets or part sheets, some Forever (10) and 44c (40) and part sheets of lick and stick 29c. (40)
I guess they might suit some one for cheap US postage say $20 for the $50? PM me and I'll send a scan if interested, otherwise after the weekend I might try listing on ebay

My wife and family recently left for the USA on a 10 day trip and I thought I would spend most of my free time with my stamps and models.Time to organise my collections and sort out the numerous boxes I have. However, this is not the case.On the day of their departure, the government here announced there would be nation-wide power blackouts from 10pm to 6am in an attempt to conserve energy.A curfew was also announced for these hours and extra police and military were called in to provide extra security.Ecuador is suffering from a severe drought and this has reduced water levels to a record low in the hydro-electric plants which provide over 75% of Ecuador,s electricity. However, this arrangement was changed quickly and different blackouts were imposed across the country. The sector where I live is without power from 10pm to 3am and then again from 9am to 3pm.This will continue until the weekend when new blackouts begin.Saturday from 5am to 11am and 3pm to 8pm.Sunday will be 5am to 9am and 2pm to 6pm. No news about next week but it is predicted these blackouts will continue until December. Internet connection so far has been good so I can still make purchases...... Anglobob

A few weeks ago I purchased the 2023 version of the Gibbons GB Concise Catalogue which is the final one listing Q.E. II stamps. So I decided to use my older copy, (too "dog eared" to pass on) as a check list for GB stamps already collected. With most of the acquired stamps crossed out, I can easily reference the missing ones up to 2023. Looks like I will be ordering a few missing items later today.

Back to Stamping TodayGreetings, all! I can see that I have missed a great deal of activity on the Forum while I was up to my eyeballs in all-day work meetings this past week. But I am now back online, and I have some important tasks to complete this weekend. Here's the list: - Top Priority: Finish revising and editing the TSF Newsletter, V9.1. Much of the work is already done, but the centerpiece article still needs to be finalized, and the events calendar needs to be updated. I am thinking we will publish after the polling for the Article of Distinction closes, which will be on Mon-30-Sep at 21:00 EDT. So, if you haven't voted yet, and you would like to, please do so by Monday.
- Once the Newsletter is finished up, I need to go through the accumulated stamp materials on my desk and put them away. It's always hard for me to tackle anything new when my desk is cluttered with unfinished little projects.
- I have bid on a couple of inexpensive Cape of Good Hope lots on eBay. I bought one lot as a Buy-It-Now for less than $20 USD that had a clean, 2-margin 1sh Yellow Green triangle and about 20-30 rectangular stamps, including a 5sh orange, which has some decent CV, too. I will post more about these once I receive them and have had a chance to inspect the lot.
OK, that's it for now. Back to the Newsletter....
Stay stampy, all!
P.S. I especially like the recent posts in this thread from Hugh and Stan (stainlessb).... great stuff, guys!

Trying to get back to normal with my stamps and it is going slowly but it is coming along. Managing to scan some bits and be a bit more active here which I have missed. Now that my future collecting has been decided (see 'What I Collect' at left), I have been preparing and pricing items for sale at the Tel Aviv bourse next Tuesday. I'll post up some items here too. Posting items online is still a bit difficult but OK for some countries due to the mails/flights etc. But we will prevail. Before that there will be a couple of Giveaways later this week to go with the many nice giveaways we have seen of late at TSF. My biggest task was putting together items from my British Philatelic Exhibitions collection in sets and small lots. I have been collecting such items for many years and there are some interesting pieces to value and describe. All good fun. The Events of 1912 and 2010 will not be going and will have their own album (old habits die hard, so they say ). So if you are interested in British Philatelic Exhibitions or British Cinderellas, let me know via forum message. No buying lately just the odd bid on local auctions. Many do not want to send to Israel because of postal or political issues. It's understandable. More to come....... Londonbus1

I was going through a lot of Machins looking for samples of JET phosphor. I only found one. When doing the bulk scanning with UV light, it was noticeable that many of the original issue Machins have lost their phosphoresence. I was just checking used. You can still see the band by surface color changes/

Not a lot of stampin' lately - just keeping up with Colnect, processing new submissions and adding new issues takes up a good chunk of my days off from work. Also, the gaming bug has been biting me hard so been playing a lot of historical grand strategy games the last few weeks, which given their depth (a game can take weeks to complete) tends to focus my attention away from stamps. Have a vacation week from work in a couple weeks so maybe some time then to do some personal stamp work - I have a bunch of 1990s-2010s Malaysia, Singapore and Turkey currently in stockbooks that I really should start making proper albums for.

I’m busy lotting out all of my used USA, working backwards from newest to oldest, arranging them on pages for a buck or two per year. Yesterday I finished 1991 and was surprised that I had multiple express rate duplicates! I wish that were true for ALL of the Express rates issued in the last 20 years. I’m still missing many of them in my collection in fine used condition. The Bethesda Fountain is a real toughie to find in any condition. Anyhoo, it takes some time to pull together all of the duplicates, pick which one to keep, then sort and organize them. I try to make up sets, too. I’m tossing all the excess duplicated more common issues in the USA donate tub which is now well over 20 pounds! Isn’t it amazing how much you can accumulate? I finally was able to win a Vatican collection that I could afford that covered much of the parts of my collection that had gaps. When your collection gets advanced it is super exciting to fill those last few missing spaces, yes? This is the first collection that I’ve ever purchased that was mounted on album pages and then the pages were trimmed to fit into Vario Grande Clear pages then put into TWO thick Lighthouse binder with dust case. WOW - Very nice! I mean I’ve seen plastic covers used on printed album pages but to use VARIO sheets is, well, awfully expensive. I think I’ll sell the collection as is after I remove what I need which is mostly after 2000. I collect both mint AND used so the album just doesn’t work with my collection. Tomorrow we’re going to the Cape to spend the day at the Space center. Much more fun to us than Disney! Happy stamping!

I've been very busy for the last few days at my part-time work (lots of marking, it's mid-term time) and didn't have enough time to enjoy catching up at TSF.
I did get manage to get to my local club's German Study group yesterday and I won an auction of Klaipēda / Memel stamps last night .. so that was fun. The auction included some stamps from Moheli ... an area new to me. I'm looking forward to looking into that part of the world.
During breaks from work, I've been doing some research on an interesting Canadian Internment Camp cover and on some RPPCs from WW1. I'll do a couple of posts on them later today. Things should be back to 'normal' by then.
Cheers,

About 3 weeks ago I broke my reading glasses. Just collected 2 new pairs from Specsavers (you will never guess who I bumped into there, just about everybody)?? Anyway its been a challenge reading the forum posts for the past 3 weeks or so & indeed trying to sort shades etc with stamps. I managed to get a few items listed on eBay & added a few Machins to my specialist albums, hopefully in the correct place. I've decided that using my unbroken long range glasses does not work well when sorting stamps as having to sit 3 or 4 feet away from my desk doesn't cut it. At least I could see the "likes" button on the forum posts I could see. Some good stuff as usual.

I'm slowly working my way through the large numbers of stamps that are in glassine envelopes among my dad's philatelic materials. Some envelopes contain stamps sorted by country, but many contain unsorted mixtures. In the mixed assortment from an envelope that I opened yesterday were these two stamps that I have been unable to decipher. A Google Image Search suggests they are somehow associated with (perhaps!) Soviet-occupied East Saxony (Germany?), but I have been unable to find them in any volume of the Scott online catalogue so far searched (Germany, German Democratic Republic, Russia, Poland). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
