Interesting (since I do not collect Portugal) - found this 2 1/2 gray Scott 110 stamp (Portugal) of King Carlos, issued 1895 to 1905 and postmarked from ELVAS, Portugal on May 27, 1906 or 27 mai 06 (french) - I wonder why the date in french ?

renden - Portuguese and French are both Roman languages and are rather close, with 75% similiarity. They both use 'Mai' for the month of May. Funny enough so do Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and probably many others

In my youth, I used to send my letters to Santas of different countries to see how the volunteers responded. They usually sent back a formal reply on colourfully printed letters written in a tone addressing to children. Here are two of them I still keep. The first is from the German Santa. The cancellation on the envelope is quite special. The second is from the French Santa. Both stamp and cancellation are printed, instead of hand-stamped.

I don't know if this counts as a postmark ... Canada Post sometimes prints a motto or slogan on the envelope when cancelling a stamp. In the following picture, the slogan refers to the current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In my youth, I used to send my letters to Santas of different countries to see how the volunteers responded. They usually sent back a formal reply on colourfully printed letters written in a tone addressing to children. As a former Montrealer, I still think that Santa's Address in Canada is the best. After all, the North Pole is in Canada (allow me some patriotism there) and where else is HOH OHO a valid Zip Code? It actually would be in Montreal, too. Then there's the Finnish Santa Village in Rovaniemi (where the reindeer come from, obviously). My youngest son remembers from a Babar the Elephant story that he finds Santa in the Carpathian Mountains in Slovakia, while in "The 5 Guardians" movie, Santa is clearly Russian.

It has been a while since the last post here.I found this in a recent purchase. Austria SC 69,dated 18 Jan 1898 and with a Opuzen Fortopus postmark. This is now Opuzen,a small town in Croatia named after a fortress dating back to the 1600,s. According to Wikipedia,it is the major centre of tangerine production in Croatia.
