I am surprised that no one has started a thread on this great series!

I don't collect them but know many that do. I have a feeling that it could warrant a whole sub form.

I was going to post a few pages of my small collection of these, would you like me to wait and see if a new sub-form is formed (less to move)?

If you have too many Machins you might consider doing this:

How does one go about adding images?

Really simple: go to "reply" (top right corner)instead of 'Quick reply'. Then, when that opens up click 'attachments' and download the image from your computer. As we are still new we like to keep the image at about 200kb. You can add up to 3 images per post or post one image/ post (better as it will get your post count up ) Alternatively you can post directly from an image storing facility like thegomc one. But Jack (Admin) much prefers if we use the attachment button as that will store the images here. I agree totally. Edit: the rule now is that we have to use the attachment button.

I think some of the colours for the new 2013 Machins are amazing. This is one of the new tariff stamps, Orchid Mauve...

You can add images by using the add attachment button, you will not find this on quick reply. Try and keep attachments 200-300kb I rather you use this then to upload using a image hosting site. You can post up to 3 images per post. They will show as a thumbnail in your post, to enlarge just click and it will open. Also welcome aboard

Another 2013 new tariff stamp is the 88p Amber Yellow. This has a M13L Date Code, printed by Walsall. Another Date Code MA13 is now available, printed by De La Rue. I believe the story goes, De La Rue were in the process of moving and couldn't get the new stamps out in time, so Walsall came to the party. Then when De La Rue were back in business again after the move, for some strange reason they chose a different iridescent overprint date code, the MA13. More to collect...!!!

The last of the three new tariff stamps for 2013 - to date - is the £1.88 sapphire, a very striking colour. This is also the M13L Date Code type...

I have to admit that my favourites are now very much the new security issues. A lot don't like them because they won't soak off, but I love those codes!!!!!!!!

A lot don't like them because they won't soak off I soak them off using paint thinner (mostly made of mineral spirits), then I scrape the gum off using the edge of an old credit card, followed by a soak in water as a final cleaning. They come off fine, and I haven't destroyed any yet. The huge gold Horizon labels come off the same way. Ryan **edit** - newer self-adhesive Machins with the security cuts don't allow me to use the credit card for scraping adhesive off. It's too likely that the scraping process will pick up the edge of a security cut and tear the little oval out of the stamp. I can still soak these stamps using my paint thinner but I have to be much more careful when removing the adhesive. I use only my fingernail and care is needed to avoid damaging the security cut. Note also that a fair percentage of these stamps are damaged as soon as they get put on the envelope - it must be a touch tricky to get the stamp out of the booklet without damaging the security cut, as I see a number of these stamps with that oval already damaged as it's sitting there on the envelope before my soaking process even begins ....

I use a solvent called Shellite, which is basically like lighter's fluid. It can be purchased from Bunnings in Australia in 4L containers:

Of course it is VERY Inflammable... I also use it (from a smaller container - and old Zippo) for watermark detection.

My first security Machins...I guess that I will be soaking them off, with Shellite. Not much point keeping them on cover with that nasty cancel...
