I won this lot of 800 commemorative slogan cancels today.
Certainly I expect significant duplication but I see quite a number that I don't have! (There were several additional scans with the lot)

That lot of 800 (actually more like 700) slogans on postal cards was quite fruitful. Included were several great examples of pictorial slogans, here's 8 of them:

A postcard with a celebration cancel for the Jamestown Exposition held at Norfolk, Virginia, from April to December, 1907. The reverse depicts one of the on-site exposition buildings. The card is appropriately franked with the one cent stamp from the three-stamp set commemorating the first permanent English settlement in what is now the United States, Sc. 328-330.

In light of the civil mayhem festering in some of our cities and the demonstrated hatred for our police by so many, I was happy to pick up this police-related slogan for my collection: UNCOMMON VALOR A COMMON VIRTUE NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
Used from Washington DC for a week, May 13 - 19, 1973.
I am so grateful that I grew up in a different era than today, and that my wife and I were able to instill pride for our country in our children.

A question about your Sierra Madre post above. Any idea why that cover was assessed 5 cents postage due? Looks okay to me with the then current 5 cents stamp.

stamphinger - It must have been a double weight letter, thus short-paid by 5 cents. The top of the envelope at opening seems to indicate bulky contents. Good quesiton.

NATIONAL STAR SPANGLED BANNER CENTENNIAL Baltimore, 1921
This was a recent arrival, enhanced with the addition of the circular die cut sticker promoting the same.
Most "purists" prefer such labels, seals etc postmark tied to an item to prove they aren't a later addition. I took a chance on this. When examining the card and seal the edge of the seal was loose and as I worked with it the entire thing popped off leaving a dark yellow adhesive stain on the card.
Much of the gum on the back of the seal was intact so a bit of moisture in a small spot at the top has sufficiently "tacked" the label back in place.
I found more information about this sticker in a sold item listing from a seller "maerkat" to whom I am grateful for the information.
"Baltimore, Maryland hosted a celebration for the Star Spangled Banner Centennial, Sepember 7 - 13, 1914. There were three different poster stamps issued as publicity for the event, and this is the scarcest variety. The text above the celebration information reads: "J. HARRY DRECHSLER CO. INC. INVITES YOU TO VISIT" and below the image: "AND ITS PRINTING PLANT 106 W. BALTIMORE ST"
This stamp is listed in "A General Illustrated Catalogue of Exhibition and Event Poster Stamps to 1914" compiled by Stewart Gardiner and Steve Greiczek, on page782, with a scarcity rating of "S" (Scarce). It is also listed in Nicholas Follansbee's "A Catalogue of U.S. Seals and Poster Stamps for Minor Events, 1890-1999" with an estimated retail value of $20.00 in 2004."
Here is his item which sold for $9 including shipping.
I suspect the round version on my card was cut out from the rectangular version with surrounding text.

Address Mail Handstamp:
Here is an example which may explain the need for the use of the widely used ADDRESS YOUR MAIL TO STREET AND NUMBER slogan of the 1920s and onward:
This will make a relevant item for an introductory page to my machine slogans of this subject.

A purchase today:
The SAVE TIME USE AIR MAIL biplane slogan is a popular slogan. This a most attractive with its colorful cachets from Boise Idaho marking the reduction of air mail postage to 5 cents first ounce on August 1 1928. I don't know what USE THE OVERHEAD MAIL means.
