Bar Codes in their various guises are becoming increasingly prevalent. Here are 4 examples from my recent mail. The first 2 are from Italy. At least the top cover has stamps. The next 2 are from: firstly, the UK, quite common from eBay, and the second is from Chile and despite the "Prioritaria Internacional" label it took 5 weeks to arrive.

Here's a cropped image of an interesting cover that came my way recently. It's a little hard to see in this scan, but the stamp at the right is an imperforate version of the Richmond, Virginia stamp from this year's Historic Railway Stations set (Scott 5759a). This was used as postage by a well-known cover dealer, so I'm sure it's from an imperf sheet as sold by USPS. Neat thing to find in the mail!

Whilst the stamp is a rather generic USPS Forever Stamp featuring a bit of sunshine or more precisely, an African Daisy, it is the snow globe Spray-On Machine cancellation that caught my eye after seeing swvl's post above,
With two examples now known; a quick search of the United States Postal Service website turned up no additional information for these cancels and I wonder how many different globes were made available?
Have fun and happy collecting!

So far I've seen four of these snow globe designs: the Santa and gingerbread house in our last two posts, as well as a Christmas tree and a snowman, seen below. These spray cancels seem to have been rolled out pretty widely throughout the U.S., but they're not everywhere. Here's a post office in New York that's still using last year's holiday spray cancel, tied in with the 2022 Holiday Elves stamps, well into mid-December 2023:

Great stuff swvl ; thanks for the showing :-) I especially like the Seattle one with its reflection of the stamp used. Myself, I would be surprised to learn if there was more than the 4 of the 'special' snow globe cancellations; this would line up with this year's USPS snow globe stamps of which there were also four stamps. All we are missing is Rudolph. With a reindeer cancellation, one could presumably collect all four stamps with their respective cancellations in a set of covers. Definitely a philatelic challenge and not one that simply requires deep pockets ;-) As for the last spray-on machine cancel, if I read this bulletin announcement correctly - Holiday Season 2022 it is from USPS Operation Santa® program which last year ran from November 26, 2022, through December 30, 2022 and given the history of this programme, 110 year plus now, is likely being used again this year for the same purpose?
Good seasonal philatelic fun...
Have fun and happy collecting!

Recent Package from Sri LankaMy wife recently bought a DVD from a 3rd-party seller on Amazon, and much to her surprise, it turned out that the seller was located in Sri Lanka! So, the bonus for me was some strips of recent Sri Lankan issues, which were used on the package. The postmarks are not very distinct, but the stamps are nice enough, and I am planning to soak them off and use them as trading material.

Lay face down Cut off all necessary unwanted packaging Probable result, yellow stamps stained by the packaging material

Thanks for your comments, rod222I haven’t done the soaking yet, but I will probably give it a try by this coming weekend. I hadn’t really thought about the yellow color of the envelope being fugitive. Perhaps I will soak some other part of the envelope first, separately, to see if it is colorfast or not. Thanks again!

Here's a nice cover that just showed up from Finland, carrying a recent eBay purchase. The postmark shows it took just under two weeks to get from Helsinki to New York — not bad.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This cover arrived in the mail today with a nice 1874 cover inside I will share on another thread. The sender was able to use 26 stamps in total. The cancel is one created for the seller WS Ltd of Victoria BC .

rod222wakeybluenoseThe reason for the $0.00 sticker is to provide a barcode for the package. This is important if it is for a tracked shipment, and the sender chooses to use adhesive stamps rather than a computer-generated label.

It's such a shame... It meant three of those stamps couldn't be soaked off!

I understand your point, Kevin ( wakeybluenose)! This does happen on occasions when there isn’t enough space on the front of the envelope to put the sticker without partially covering the stamps. When there is enough space, the postal clerks are generally pretty good about avoiding the stamps.

I was going through my late aunt's estate and found this mailing to my grandfather from 1956. It was printed on very thin paper. Probably custom, enclosure in an Aerogramme, would have gone ordinary mail, under half ounce.
the 50c uprated, possibly covers the aerogramme value indicia ? No these aerogrammes had no indicia, just text "affix stamp here" No receiving postmarks?
I wonder if this is a one piece aerogramme, pre printed with Mohindra livery ?

I got outbid(sniped) on a $5 Canada Jubilee, sock on the nose Toronto cancel. This was my side bid. The dealer threw in a couple of extras. Nice touch. I do like used German Colonies for some reason, even though some were never put in use, I am told.( So those would be mint in my album) s://ibb.co/V9wXRt2] [/url]

Here's a nice cover that arrived today from NZ Post with some new issues inside. Like the one I posted in this thread last January, it's a reusable envelope, in case you need to return your purchase. Reverse: I appreciate that this postal service uses stamps on its outgoing mail! Not all countries do. These come from a set of four Diwali stamps issued in 2021. They even got a faint postmark.

Papua, more Papua. This was a bit of a surprise win, bid low. Watermark 11 for both, but the 6 penny is inverted. Is this common? I have many stamps from NSW inverted wmks as well. My Gibbons does not cover it. I think the 2/6 is a type "C" but I can be corrected.

Yesterday (8 Jan), I received the postcards I sent to the 4 Japanese post offices located at the 4 extremities of Japan for postmarking on the last day the post offices were opened in 2023 (29 Dec). The cards were my own postcards based on the photos I took during my visit to these 4 extremities on my bike tour across Japan (2022-2023). It's a wonderful souvenir for an once-in-a-lifetime adventure! [Date of cancellation: 29 December 2023.]
