Dear All New GB stamp issue on 19 October 2023 'Harry Potter. Dare I say it yet another stamp issue of now no real relevance other than Royal Mail tapping into the Harry Potter Fan base. Yes I will be getting the postmarks Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

daniel Hi Daniel, Quote: 'The Civilian' (unknown but presumably a newspaper or magazine), Perhaps?... This body did much to disseminate best training practices by providing a training syllabus for initial police recruits in relevant investigative techniques, and more relevantly offered a syllabus for the training of detectives. It was this doctrine that SIB training courses from 1942 onwards duly embraced. CIVILIAN DETECTIVE DOCTRINE IN THE 1930s AND ITS TRANSMISSION TO THE MILITARY POLICE IN 1940-42 Colin R. Moore and Gerry R. Rubin1 Cannot get the link to work

It always pays to look inside any cover that you purchase, you never know what other treasure you may find. The below Cover I recently purchased on an on line auction website. No mention of the letter that it contained in the auction listing. Great addition and somewhat derogatory towards the residents of Tunbridge Wells Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

(Please see original post for images.) Anyone able to provide info / SG numbers / value on these FDCs? The First Cover for the 1948 Coronation Issue, issued on 26 April 1948 I would think could be realistically valued at around £100 + There is currently on an internet auction site an identical cover up for £199.99 starting price. No bids on it yet. The SG Numbers for the non overprinted stamps are SG 493 & 494 The second cover for the 'Victory Stamps issued on 11 June 1946 I would give a guide value of £20-£30. Again on an online Auction site there is a cover up for sale with a starting price of £35.The SG ref number for these stamps are SG 491 & SG 492. Just my own thoughts on value at the end of the day their value is what anyone is willing to pay for them. Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

We don't seem to have a specific Jennings thread so I thought that I would post this here. It is an envelope with an imprinted King Charles Jennings definitive. Queen Elizabeth Machin versions were available with a blue version. This is my first sighting of a Jennings.

The Riding of the Marches is a traditional equestrian event that takes place in several towns in Scotland. It is a commemoration of the practice from the 13th and 15th centuries where there were frequent raids on the Anglo-Scottish border known as the Border Reivers.

Two First Day Covers for the Alfred, Lord Tennyson Death Centenary stamps issued on 10th March 1992. He was the first Baron Tennyson The first cover is signed by Mark Aubrey Tennyson, the 5th Baron Tennyson (1920–2006). The second cover relates to Alfred, Lord Tennyson's famous poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade which was a disastrous attack against heavily defended Russian troops at the Battle of Balaklava during The Crimean War and was led by the Earl of Cardigan. It is signed by Michael Sydney Cedric Brudenell-Bruce (b. 1926) 8th Marquess of Ailesbury, 14th Earl of Cardigan, 9th Earl of Ailesbury, 7th Earl Bruce of Whorlton, 8th Viscount Savernake, 10th Baron Bruce of Tottenham, 14th Baron Brudenell of Stonton, to give him his full set of titles!

As I have previously mention it always pays to check inside a cover, you never know what else you may be getting which could provide more information about the cover or some interesting questions that may need researching With the below, a recent purchase I was aware that the cover contained ' Advertising literature' but with no specific details. In this case the insert is a nice piece of social history. For me though it raised an interesting question (s), you can see from the below image that the Cover is addressed to S L Cooper Esq with an address in Hove Sussex (England). On looking at the 4 page small style booklet contained within the cover on page 4 it reads - ' All our dental preparations bear the following signature stamped on the Labels : S L Cooper. So 1) Did Mr Cooper attend the Stamp Exhibition at Dorland Hall just along from where he worked use some paperwork from his work place to stiffen the cover and then post it to his home address, failing to have a stamp thus incurring 1d to pay? 2) Did Cooper's Dentifrice have some sponsorship involvement with the Stamp Exhibition and the advertising paperwork inserted in all covers? 3) Any other permutations that a reader can think of. My current research has been unable to provide any answers. Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk
