no idea now from whence I acquired this mini-sheet - modern art not really my thing - so it must have come in with something more desirable. The only date I can see is 1969, does anyone know if that was the printing date for this Swedish stamp art work?

Peter - many thanks for helping with details on this one - much appreciated. Contrary to my earlier comment, I'm not entirely a philistine when it comes to art - but this guy is anew one on me, and I do like a lot of C18 and C19 artists - it's just the C20 where I crumble.

"Without Title",collage by Kurt Schwitters (1887 - 1948)
Issued May 5th,1987.
Of course, stamps are really only suited for graphical elements, so a stamp celebrating Kurt Schwitters can't accurately convey anything along the lines of sound poetry, another form of art with which Schwitters was involved. Behold the glory of sound poetry! An exercise for the reader - you can find a song from Brian Eno's rock days entitled "Kurt's Rejoinder" which includes a sample from the above work. Ryan

Most artists worked in different fields of fine arts. I have to admit, that Kurt Schwitters was unknown to me. Same is true for sound-poetry,maybe except from Ulysses by James Joyce.
Design for windows of the Bauhaus-Archive,by Walter Gropius (1883 - 1969) Certainly an artist of different fine arts ! Issued Feb.8th,1983.(from a set of 3)

... All that's left is making it over to the Met to see the exhibit before it closes later this summer! I made it to the Metropolitan Museum's Winslow Homer exhibit today, on the final day before it closed. I'm glad I did! It's a spectacular show that gave me a much deeper appreciation for Homer's work in relation to the times in which he lived. Among other things, it was remarkable to see Breezing Up -- the 1876 painting reproduced on Scott 1207 -- in person. Here's that stamp on its own, in the "American Wing" of my Vario art gallery. It's a beauty.

"Der Sommerabend" or "Das Konzert" (1905) (the summer-evening or the concert) painting by Heinrich Vogeler (1872 - 1942). Vogeler, also an architect, illustrator and author is closely connected to the art community of Worpswede. The front of his house, the "Barkenhof" is the stage for the picture.
Changed by the events of the Great War,what he had joined as a volunteer,he became a socialist/communist. He finally emigrated in 1931 to the Soviet Union.
Stamp issued July 13th,1989,commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Worpswede community.

Paintings by Otto Dix (1891 - 1969) Otto Dix is best known for his paintings in the style of Verismus (New Realism). He lived a remarkable life.He is the only person I ever have heard of,who lived after WW II alternating in West- and in East-Germany.He did not only have studios in both german states, but also had a family on each side of the divide !
