While sorting to day, I was checking watermarks and many of the Germany stamps are easy to see, but I had to use some Clarity today.... and I have never seen this before Front, looks normal back- notice the bleed, 4th from left is very faint, but it is there. The two to the right also treated with Clarity and although it looks like maybe two different paper types , no bleed. Anybody else ever see this? All stamps had no-bleed backs prior to puttinto the watermark tray Two different emissions of the Hindenburg definitive series. Michel 491 (April of 1933; Wz.2 9Webbing) and Michel 524 (1933/1936; Wz.4 (Haken cross = swastika))

Concerning the paper, I believe that, as a definitive, printed several times over the years, the quality of the paper might have some variations...

Those cancelations are my main field of study in Philately. I might not be the greatest specialist, but I have managed to obtain most of the major books concerning those cancelations, in case you need me to consult these books for a specific doubt, please ask me...

On the two recent and similar cancellations, I notice the lower location in parenthesis NEUSALZ (ODER) and VILLINGEN (BADEN).... Baden is a state....but Oder is a River???
also, after the date- is this a time of day (7-8M and 5-6M) M= morning??
and since I'm typing away, are the early German stamps "color safe" to soak?
Yes, the numbers are the hour of posting. The reason why many German cancelations have the place or the geographical landmark they are in is because there were (and there are) cities in Germany with the same names. Mostly because they used to be in different countries, but after the unification of Germany were all in the same empire. I looked over NEUSALZ in the ODER (now in Poland) in my COLUMBIA LIPPCOT GAZETEER OF THE WORLD and found also a NEUSALZ(A) SPREMBERG, in Saxony. Maybe that is the reason of the "ODER" in the cancelation...

About Willingen I have only found that it used to be "VILLINGEN IM SCHWARZWALD".

ausbrasilien , those really are some beautiful Shanghai cancels. Actually, the images were posted by mikeclevenger . ausbrasilien quoted a post by Mike from Oct-2019 on a previous page of this thread, which re-posted all of the images. In any case, I agree that they are indeed beautiful cancels!

Good Morning everyone. I have been away for a month or so now, and come back only to see my beautiful stamps reposted. They do look good, I guess that is why i bought them. LOL. I haven't even seen them in a year or so now, as they live in a stockbook somewhere. I am glad you all like the cancels though, these are some of the stamps that made me learn to love the German cancellations, as I said in the above post. I used to just care about the stamps, never caring what the cancellations looked like, except that they were covering up too much of the stamp. I have learned to love cancellations so much, that all of my German Used stamp albums, have the best cancellations I have, even when the stamp is more off center than others I have. In fact, while I was looking for stamps for some of you, I found better cancellations in my stockbooks, and gave you the better centered stamps from my albums, and I put the stamp with the better cancellation in my album. My consideration for a better cancellation is the fact that I can read the city, date, & time, in that order. being able to read the city name takes precedence over everything else for my album. It does look good when you have an entire page that you can read every city cancellation on every stamp.
Have a great day.
Mike.

Here is a page out of my Bavaria Stamp Album. Most of these stamps have names you can read on them. I think it just makes the page look great.

Have a great day.

I'm working on older German stamps, two colored posthorn type of 1922. There are two types of printing, P= Flat plate printing and W= Rotary press printing. I'm not able to see who is who. witch type do I have, do I have both? Images scanned in 1200dpi, click on them to go to larger image.

I really hate those issues. The identifiers for the two types aren't great, and the normal variations in printing make it really difficult to tell them apart.
If I had to guess:
MiNr. 207 — all P except W on Row 2, #3 MiNr. 208 — all P except W on Row 2, #3 MiNr. 209 (1) — all P except W on Row 1, #2 and #4; Row 2, #5 MiNr. 209 (2) — all P

Wow that was really nice of you, PostmasterGS ! Isn't it awesome to have such knowledgeable experts in our circle? I don't collect Germany, BUT if I did, Postmaster's website would be my Eden. If you have never been to his Classic Germany site, take a look. www.germanstamps.net/Edit - I tried to add the link, but it kept bouncing me back here to the forum. Admin or mod - am I making an error somehow? Is it because I am on my iPad? I get the same thing when I click on the link on PostmasterGS signature. Thanks for your help.

I get the same thing when I click on the link on PostmasterGS signature. Thanks for your help.I am able to access the site using both the link in your post as well as that in the signature It does, however, take quite a long time to load. I do have to pause my Ghostery in order to be able to follow links to other sites by clicking on them. If I don't want to pause Ghostery, then I have to have the link open in a new window.

If I had to guess: MiNr. 207 — all P except W on Row 2, #3 I would agree with the PostmasterGS, but I think the MiNr. 207 on Row 2, #3 is actually a P. The stars are large, not small. Not wanting to argue, but when I blow them up, it is the same size as a P star.
I do have to agree with philatelia, your website is awesome. It goes beyond any others I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing all you knowledge with us. I am but a lowly new collector of Germany, and you make collecting Germany better for all of us with your website.
Have a great day.
